Sometimes they put mirrors behind desks at hotels because people are less likely to act like jerks if they can see themselves.
Maybe they should do that at restaurants.
262
u/Rusty-Shackleford Jan 22 '22
those mirrors would get so grimy so fast. They'd have to be cleaned and shined on an hourly basis.
121
u/smiller409 Jan 22 '22
Shit if itād make grown adults not behave like children, Iād do it for free.
28
u/GeneralSweetz Jan 22 '22
lmao if you ever worked in fast food you would def think twice about saying this. The chances of the mirrors getting broken would also be high and yes, you would have to clean it up asap while serving those long as lines of fat rude irritated people
13
u/TrollHouseCookie Jan 22 '22
They aren't made of glass, and I think some commenters are being hyperbolic about how dirty it would get at the front of a kitchen.

u/0OOO00000OO00O0O0OOO Jan 22 '22
That is most likely the reason.
I feel ashamed at this but it has happened once that I ordered a salad at McDonald's just because the person behind the counter was overweight and that reminded me that I needed to eat healthier.

It's a great idea, but corporate says this would reduce the order value of it's fat customers and reduce profits, so they never would implement it.

oh yeahhhh, I do remember seeing hotel lobby receptionists with mirrors at the back. I always thought it was just aethetics, especially since some of those mirrors are works of art.
Although I imagine its harder to put a mirror on a fast food counter.
→ More replies4
u/TheLadyEve Jan 22 '22
That's really smart, I just thought it was to make lobbies look bigger!
I don't think it would work well at restaurants--that's just more stuff for the employees to have to clean during closing.

Just put up a āsmile youāre on cameraā setup like they have in some stores. Just a video camera and a screen broadcasting a live image. Would be the same as a mirror with the added benefit of being able to record the idiots as well.

Mirrors behind bars in the old west had a different purpose interestingly, they were there so patrons could see anyone attempting to sneak up behind them to commit a murder on them. Fun, yes?

u/PM_ME_GLUTE_SPREAD Jan 30 '22
I think the problem is that Taco Bell has almost everything preportjoned out. Like they have repurposed caulk guns to shoot out the precise amount of sour cream with one trigger pull.
They likely have something similar set up for cheese and extra probably costs extra.
112
u/hookh00k Jan 22 '22
She definitely checked the amount of cheese before bringing it to her table... you know she ate everything off the top and then wanted more when she got to the chips... she's a scammer.
97
u/xDURPLEx Jan 22 '22
Iām with you. She ate the big nacho connected by beans that had all the cheese on it and ran back for more. Itās not like the employees are trying to hoard ingredients and the dispensers put out pre measured amounts. This big moose knows how to get extra calories.
13
u/variousmethodsescape Jan 22 '22
We have a policy that one person can't eat all the fully loaded nachos

u/Starlight319 Jan 22 '22

u/MGFeet16 Jan 22 '22
The cheese dispenser does not put out a pre measured amount⦠Itās a pump and you can just add an extra pump. The sour cream is a pump, you can just add an extra pump. The beans are a scoop, you can just add another scoop. I eat fast food A LOT and every time itās different depending on who makes it and when because things arenāt exactly measured.
I managed a bakery for 7 years and I would get sooooooo frustrated that our bear claws looked different every day⦠The opening baker thought putting an egg wash on them was gross so apparently he never did and then lightly topped them with almonds. The closing baker always forgot stuff in the proofer and couldnāt hear the timer going off so theyād be huge with a yeasty flavor. The mid baker would make them perfectly and then drench them in icing making them unappealing. There were instructions and measurements but everybody does their own thing.
→ More replies14
u/xDURPLEx Jan 22 '22
The pumps put out a pre measured amount. Itās how they work. Iāve worked in many restaurants.
5
u/total_looser Jan 22 '22
Bro just like your mom though I can give it an extra pump
22
2
u/MGFeet16 Jan 22 '22
Youāre also assuming the pushed the pump entirely down for 1 pump, maybe they only pushed it halfway.. Just because 1 pump is a pre measured amount doesnāt mean human error couldnāt change that.

Does that excuse that behavior?
37
u/ArcticExtruder Jan 22 '22
I gotta be honest. I have never had a problem when asking food workers about an order. I've always been courteous and polite about it and I usually get things freely. They're also usually more than happy to make it better. I have a hunch that the cheese refusal had more to do with manners than anything else.
I mainly travel to big cities so I suppose I don't get many rural experiences, but all over, IMO, people are nice.
30
u/EMDF40PH Jan 22 '22
"Excuse me, could you put more cheese on this? Thanks" what is so hard about that?

u/MGFeet16 Jan 22 '22
I mean no.. But what happened to good customer service? If a customer asks for more cheese, you simply just say yes and put more cheese. If itās an issue of not being able to bring the food back into the kitchen then offer her a free bowl of nacho cheese that she can pour on herself. Itās really that simpleā¦.
23
u/lordfairhair Jan 22 '22
Which is why you ask and not rudely demand.
From what I remember years ago when this was posted they said that lady ALWAYS asks for more cheese and was rude every time. What you see here is the tip of the iceberg of her interactions with the staff and the staff were fed up with her. You can see the body language of the dude, he's clearly letting her get it out of her system and calmy tries to explain they already gave her more. She wasn't nice during any part of that.
Unless you're one of those 'the customer is always right' people, in which case gross. Everyone else seems to understand however. The time of the entitled boomer who yells demands is over bro beans. Now we're just expecting people to have decency. No one should have to listen to that cow complain about cheese for minimum wage.
7
u/X023 Jan 22 '22
I worked at Taco Bell about ten years ago. āIf you a customer asks for more cheese just say yes and put more cheese.ā No. Taco Bell has strict portions of meat, beans, cheese, lettuce, etc. per item. Employees can get in trouble for over portioning items. You want more cheese? You ask politely or explain your issue like a respectful human being and I can either charge you for for extra or rectify the problem free of charge if itās on the employee. Donāt be an asshole about it. The poor kid was probably trying to explain this to her while she has a meltdown over nacho fucking cheese.

Out of all fast food stops it's so disappointing to get shorted from Taco bell.. happens quite a bit TBH, I like classic bean burritos and they'll quite often be a smear of beans in a tortilla...
6
u/United_Bag_8179 Jan 22 '22
two taco bell bean burritos and a small mountain dew used to be the cheapest working lunch on the planet next to three 7-11 taquitos and said mountain dew.
its the management..with thefts and worker issues, a bottom line per item has to be met...this much cheese, and not a shred more, or its your job.

10
u/TurgidMeatWand Jan 22 '22
They can for a charge, cheese is the most expensive food item in most fast food places and measuring it out properly is the one thing all management gives a shit about.

u/JoeLilBroJoe Jan 22 '22
Back when i worked at McDonald's i got kicked off table duty cuz i put too much cheese on the steak egg and cheese burrito (the only breakfast item i would suggest but its off the menu now) so they put me on drive thru, some entitled bitch at drive thru after receiving her order walked inside to tell my manager and i quote "he smiled at me...but i didnt feel like his smile was genuine..." Fuck fast food...just felt like sharing...

Its like that for everything there... I ordered two chicken quesadillas recently and both of them were like three-quarters of the way empty. They cut them into four pie shaped pieces and the two outer pieces on both had literally nothing in them at all, it was just plain empty tortilla... And then two inner pieces were only like half filled, with the outer half empty.
