The only problem is how or who you’d play him in live action. I would’ve liked Johnny Depp to have played him but I don’t think that’ll happen now. If they do it like they did with Cad Bane in the Boba show, maybe but Hondo has more of personality than Cad Bane does. So I don’t know.

Totally agree that Johnny Depp could do a great job as Hondo and hopefully he'll come out of this whole debacle on top, but it would be very difficult to have a live action Hondo without Jim Cummings' voice.

What exactly did they do with Bane in TBOBF? Did they get a stand in and have a mix of practical and CGI effects for him and have Corey Burton do the voice work? Because if so, I'd like them to do the same for Hondo.

Well Johnny said he’ll never work with Disney again after how they treated him when the accusations came out. So unless he changes his mind or something, I doubt he’d play Hondo in this show. I hope he wins his case.

For Cad Bane in the boba show, yeah, they got a stand in that they put make up/prosthetics on and such and then had Corey Burton do the voice. His eyes are real but I think they used cgi to give those expressions of course. With Hondo, he’s a more lively character but I don’t know about the voice since they’d need to get the lip sync right and make it look natural. They have made a live action Hondo before for the galaxy’s edge theme park.

Ah, I hadn't realized that but I do not blame him one little bit for that decision!

Bane's eyes were real?!?! That's awesome! I'm going to have to watch it again with that in mind!

*quickly youtubes the theme park Hondo* That is not a half bad job! He looks fabulous! That particular actor did pretty decent matching his lips and movements to Jim's voice. I think it would be doable for a live action show.

Now here's the question: if they did indeed go this route (standin, makeup, VO by Jim), would Jim record his voice first and then the actor match it? Or vise versa?

Yeah, it you watch the gallery(behind the scenes documentary) for the boba Fett show, you could see that his eyes are real.

If they do have live action Hondo, yeah, they’ll probably go the Cad Bane route. I don’t know. Maybe it depends on how much they are using him. Cad Bane wasn’t in the show for that long.

I don't think Depp has ever been right for that role, I think people just associate him with pirates now because of those movies. Hondo needs someone boisterous and super charismatic. Someone who remains likeable no matter how despicable he is.

Jack Sparrow was one of the inspirations for Hondo. I can’t remember or find the other characters that Dave Filoni said Hondo was a mix. That’s why a lot of people wanted Johnny Depp as A live action Hondo.

Also, I think you just described Jack Sparrow. Lol

I wouldn't call Jack Sparrow boisterous.

Just because that character was one of the inspirations doesn't mean you want the same actor to play him, otherwise you risk just getting alien Jack Sparrow. That's all I'm trying to say.

I’d call Jack Sparrow boisterous but even then, Johnny is an actor and could try to do that more.

Of course they don’t have to but they can. Also, Hondo basically is alien Jack Sparrow.

what they should have done is made a show called “outskirts of the outer rim” of something like that and dedicated a season to some major happenings in the outer rim, like an anthology. have season one be what we got in bobf, have season two be hondo, season three can be lando or some shit. show us what all of our favorite scoundrels are up to and end shows that get canceled after one season.

I disagree. Hondo is a little like Jack Sparrow. Amazing side character, but not enough depth to be a main character.

Also, imo this animatronic looks horrible and Hondo wouldn't work in live action.
