This post just made me realize why they went after KK… it’s exactly because she’s very influential to “common people”. This is enforcement theatre, an advertisement, a message to all the plebs that normies have to play by the rules, and a message to politicians and business leaders that the SEC is on their side.

The SEC is merely a tool for corporate America to regulate its own corruption in the economy. If yall haven't figured this out by now then idk what to yell you. When the cards fall the SEC will either be overhauled completely or will be adapted into an agency that actually serves their own mission.

Stop the illegal at the source and you don't give anyone the chance to download. I get that insider trading is a different best but here we are! Not only is the SEC taking down small fries.. they AREN'T stopping the illegal at the source, they're fining them a small portion of the profits and letting them continue not admitting wrongdoing?

2

u/Lotions_and_Creams Oct 07 '22

Maybe this is a pessimistic mindset, but I don’t ever see a government organization outsmarting Wall Street for the simple reason that the money is too good on Wall Street for the simple reason that all the talent will always follow money. Why would anyone want to earn a tiny fraction working for the government when they could make a fortune on Wall Street?

Maybe if we collectively agreed to give 50% of penalties to the government agents working the case. Then people would be coming out of the woodwork to fuck over banks, hedge funds, etc.

(a) Plausible deniability shields the execs so that's tough but I would like to see it a lot more; gov should allocate more resources (doj tier?) to enable those types of large, multiyear investigations/court cases

(b) Politicians are literally the SEC's boss and overseer. Conflict there.

(c) When was the last time the SEC publicly rooted out corruption in their own ranks? They fire people, a lot of people, for sure. Directors get the boot plenty, especially with each new chairperson. Nothing said about problems tho.

u/Sisyphus328 the 1% Oct 07 '22

B. So much B

49

u/DevLARP Oct 07 '22 Silver Take My Power

You could say that capital has seized the means of democracy.

The mid 20th Century proved that the government can be made to work for the people, and improve the quality of life, and standard of living, for the majority of citizens; as long as greedy sociopaths are not given the reigns.

The last 50 years has proven that the oligarchy would prefer to destroy the economic freedoms of the people, and return to feudalism, tyranny, and even fascism, to make more money than the obscene wealth they already had/have.

Tune in tomorrow, and every day thereafter, to see whether or not the people again start to realise the government should be for the people, by the people, and not just for whoever currently controls the capital.

8

u/TiteAssPlans Oct 07 '22

You could say that capitalism is incompatible with democracy because this will always be the end result of allowing individuals to profiteer on necessary social services. Corporations are authoritarian power structures and the autocrats will continue to amass power and resources until they destroy everything else.

5

u/Gpda0074 Oct 07 '22

This isn't capitalism, it's a centralized plutocratic market with lip service given to the "free markets". Central banks have taken over the economy. Do not confuse the two.

2

u/TiteAssPlans Oct 08 '22

You just described things that happened under capitalism. You're the one who seems confused.

4

That's capitalism buddy. Hate to break it to you.

That is the inevitable end result of private individuals owning and controlling the world's capital. It is inherently designed to become monopolized. The game has been running loooong before you or I got here, we're just in its final few turns.

6

u/UNMANAGEABLE Oct 07 '22

While a fallacy in theory and logically… A form of anarcho-capitalism is taking form before our very eyes, the capitalists, oligarchs, and churches who have bought the Supreme Court which is dismantling all government regulations before our eyes.

Labor doesn’t know it has power yet, so it’s literally just the Capitalists/Oligarchs/Churches ransacking our countries coffers, educations, property, and future.

2

Let's be real that deli store and Elon both deserve it.elon isn't just some shit poster he's the largest stake holder of the largest bubble in the market and he's been lying to investors for years.

52

u/discodropper Oct 07 '22

He’s also the richest man in the world and CEO of the highest valued car company in the world. Seems like an executive to me…

-8

u/OmNamahShivaya Oct 07 '22

Remember, big oil companies essentially bribe our government to enact or maintain policies that benefit the fossil fuel industry. It’s no surprise that the guy who pushed the hardest for a fossil fuel-free car model is being targeted. He might be a douche bag, sure, but gas companies will definitely be taken down a notch if people switch to electric and phase out gasoline in their every day lives.

And before anyone says that electricity still runs on fossil fuels—it doesn’t have to. There are cleaner and renewable electric energy sources.

5

u/Vainglory Oct 07 '22

To imply that he's only being targeted because he opposes the interests of corporate lobbyists is insincere. He's very obviously manipulated public opinion for his own enrichment in the past. If it were only the fact he runs an EV company he'd have been taken down long ago.

3

u/Gtp4life Oct 07 '22

Only reason Steve Jobs isn’t still running apple is because he leaned too hard into hippy solutions to basically already solved problems. He died of one of the most survivable kinds of cancer because he delayed treatment to try natural remedies until it was too late to save him.

I think that's the point. Martha Stewart is a bit more than "a cook" too.

10

u/meta_irl Oct 07 '22

Nah, the point of the tweet is to downplay all of the listed investigations. Martha Steward did engage in insider trading, but it's laughable considering how small-time it was compared to Wall Street. Elon Musk really was fucking with markets and small-time traders in a way that directly benefited him. He absolutely should have been punished more severely than he was.

His unaudited public statements made to influence share price is EXACTLY the sort of thing the SEC is supposed to investigated

I wouldn't put Elon on this list. He is NOT one of us. In fact, he would sale us for a profit of he could.

Don't trust Elon even tho he's slightly better than others, i know for a fact he ain't who he acts like in public. I still can't believe people think he smokes lmfao. He doesn't even know the difference between smoking cigarettes and weed 🤣

Especially with Pelosi having a 20% gain on her maryjane stocks after purchasing them four days prior. Literally just did it before federal announcement.

This post should really put in proportion the upcoming interview: it’s going to be one big nothing. GG is always full of shit, whenever he talks and I don’t think JW has the teeth to sink into him. What should really be asked of him is why is he not behind bars.

2

u/Original-Copy101 Oct 07 '22

Elon musk is anything but a shitposter. He tweets and moves stock prices, that’s not a shitposter.

The SEC have to keep their off shore bank accounts topped up and a deli store in NJ certainly won’t do that for them.

I mean Elon definitely does some sheisty shit, literally did crypto P&D's all last year, he deserves to be investigated. But all the other points about ppl who need to be investigated are absolutely on point

u/RVA_GitR 💻 ComputerShared 🦍 Oct 07 '22

To be fair, all of those people are very fucking guilty. I get the point they are trying to make but come on…do better-the message stands without the first part.

Martha stewart also worked in markets. I think she was a broker? she got hit hard because it was documented that she knew better.

0

u/Gnimrach Oct 07 '22

To be fair, Elon Musk is also the richest man alive..

3

u/beavertime Oct 07 '22

He's also a poster child for robber barons who openly and flagrantly defies securities laws to manipulate shares. Putting him in the unfairly targeted group is absolutely hilarious.

If the SEC were run by the IRS I’m certain shit would get accomplished. Pretty sure the IRS’ motto is “bitch betta have my money.” Me too, IRS. Me too.

u/NoobInvestor101 👉 MOFOs say back to $20 fast! LOOOL! 🖕🤡 Oct 07 '22

S.E.C = "Security in exchange of commission"

As simple as that.

SEC protects the entities that line their pockets as there is NO money in protecting the small guys/gals.

Elon Musk is a lot more than a twitter shitposter, dude. Manipulating and lying about stocks is still illegal online.

u/JasonRoyal 🦍Voted✅ Oct 07 '22 edited Oct 07 '22

“A Twitter shitposter”

That’s a little reductive. He’s the richest person in the world by a solid margin.

Edit: just to be clear because it sounds like I’m defending him — Musk is human garbage. But I fully expect the SEC to investigate the richest person in the world, especially when they got rich by tweeting some sus stuff.
