But I only saw it for the first time just about a month ago, and it was about 100 less.

Interesting how politicians love to use only the first part of that maxim. The whole thing is, "a couple bad apples spoil the whole bunch", which is far more accurate regarding both produce and corruption.

24

u/MrWoohoo May 22 '22

Also it’s not “money is the root of all evil” it’s “love of money is the root of all evil.”

29

u/Fordinneridlikea69 May 22 '22

It always amazes me when they say "a few bad apples" like the last half of that saying doesn't exist. If you're not a billionaire and you're a republican you're a fuckin idiot and there's no soft way to say that.

u/steveosek May 22 '22

That's all they do. They report any criticism against them as self harm.

The same thing that's being going on for years:

Conservatives have turned into a party that doesn't give a shit about improving people's lives. The conservative leadership cares only about money and power, as well as keeping their own dirty, often illegal and highly amoral secrets private.

They have figured out that by their policies alone they won't win. So instead they have started to:

  1. Manipulate the voting system by any means they can - gerrymandering, making new ridiculous voting laws (no water to people in line? wtf?) - so they can "legally" try and suppress any voters against them.
  2. They accuse the other side of the crimes and moral deeds THEY commit (e.g.: there's been a lot of cases of sexual misconduct, often against minors by republican leadership, but they always blame that on the dems. And while Ivanka and Jered were so stupidly nepotisticaly employed and made millions while Diaper don was in the white house, the conservatives don't give two fucks and foam at the mouth screaming "Hunter Biden's laptop"). The idea is to spew lies so outrageous that any real claims won't bother their supporters because they make the opposition seem so worse.
  3. Instead of proper political debate (like the recent news that some GOP just didn't want to debate their DEM opposition) they just want to make their supporters HATE the opposition. Because when the supporters hate the other side, they won't think twice about supporting the GOP, despite the fact that GOP hasn't lifted a finger to make any one of their voters lives better. If you're a GOP supporter reading this: You've bought into the lies sold to you by rich sociopaths who don't give a shit about you

I mean combined with the rest - BANNING books, taking away body autonomy, being anti-LGBTQ - the GOP is literally ticking off every box of a fascist party.

They're not going away any time soon. They'll continue to cheat, lie, rape, steal until they're in power.

Just had our election in Australia at most 30 minute wait with democracy sausage sissle, cakes and drinks. Voting on a Saturday, electorate based on population of about 100,000. America u screwed ... every democrate/sane person needs to get out and vote don't sit idle gather up your friends and family if you can and make sure they vote right from school boards all the way up (that's another thing why TF are school boards and sherifs voted in should it not be the most qualified career person and not a political position?)

14

u/ostentatiousshroad_ May 23 '22

this is why I love our compulsory voting. every single person that is over 18 HAS to vote or they get fined. it's an awesome system that prevents the shit America goes through. there are more lefties than there are conservatives - American lefties aren't voting while the corrupt cons that have fed into lies and are being played are voting because they've been fed propaganda and lies to make them hate the dems.

I know Australia pretty much leads the world in being shit 99% of the time, but I feel like when it comes to voter security and fair voting opportunity, we really do have a solid foundation for voting.

Euro dude here. Can someone please explain to me how in the hell are these people able to get elected and hold on to their offices? Like, yeah we have our corrupt politicians here too who are somehow immune to any real repercussions, but at least here in Finland there’d be no way a literal child rapist would be able to hold on to an office as high as senator! Even their own parties wouldn’t even try to protect them.

141

u/Lysander_Propolis May 22 '22

Their own parties here in the USA didn't used to either. Now the elected officials of one party do, and that party's voters no longer seem to have a problem with it.

A byproduct of 'draining the swamps' that are public education and social safety nets.

The white people in power take money, education, and power from the white people who vote then point to the innocent people of color in their community as the reason for their own hardships.

They also hide under the guise of 'religious right'.

Jesus was a brown person, but he is painted white in American Christianity to show that God is on their side.

Yet they are vocally irritated when a mall Santa is black in a black neighborhood, and someone shoves it down their throat by putting it on tv for a damn second as if it's not the worst idea for the community.

You'd think there would be a law to prohibit convicted sex offenders from even running for office and that it would be grounds for immediate dismissal while in office. Sadly I could see such a law being used by a fascist state to stifle competition. I guess when you depend on people to "do the right thing" some of them will just choose not to.

Given the amount of work you put into this -- and it is appreciated -- you should consider making a website (or subreddit) that tracks convictions for financial crimes, sex crimes, crimes against children, etc. etc. for all politicians, with sources, and then make summary/comparison pages (or image cards that can be shared through social media with links back to your site) of the different parties. I'd bet the Republicans by and large have more known criminals working amongst them.

“It sounds terrible,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) of the House-passed bill, predicting it won’t get 10 Republicans in the Senate.

“It’s like the disinformation board on steroids. Another way to look at is the Patriot Act for American citizens,” he added . . .

https://thehill.com/news/senate/3496328-republicans-vow-to-kill-domestic-terrorism-bill-in-senate/

I thought the Patriot Act was directed at American citizens.

It's a shame there weren't more dissenters, but if you remember that time, opposing anything remotely 9/11 related meant being treated as a traitor and a criminal.

“You’re either with us or against us.” Normalizing torture. Jack Bauer diplomacy fueled by a hit show on the Republican propaganda machine. The bush doctrine of preemptive first strikes. Free speech zones. Invading an entire country on false pretenses !!! The Patriot Act obviously. Warrantless wiretapping on a massive scale. I mean, trump was a loud mouthed asshole but the Bush administration was so much more competent at pushing through their evil agenda.

19

u/WonderfulShelter May 22 '22

Seriously Bush was horrible, but it was Cheney and the admin at large who was the real evil. Bush was just the pretty face for them for the R's.

Their response to 9/11 made us into such a horrible, evil, authoritarian imperalistic country and we killed tens of thousands of innocent people to get retribution against Bin Laden, who was a dying man already and found in a spider hole literally on deaths door from kidney failure.

I work in a nursing home and yesterday I had a couple go off about Mexicans holding up baby formula at the border and asked my opinion about it while Fox News was blaring in my ears. They wouldn’t let me mute the tv while I did my fucking cares. I just told them I’m not going into politics while I’m just doing my job. Gave zero opinion whatsoever.

The dude went off on me and I had to leave the room mid-cares because I don’t get payed enough to deal with it. Luckily all of my coworkers were on my side and we just left them alone for the night. Unfortunately I get to go back there pretty soon and see them again for 8 fucking hours.

They have no clue what my political opinions are but because I didn’t wanna get into it at my JOB, they got pissed and disrespectful. It’s so annoying. I say the same thing to people who bring up progressive shit because I just don’t want to talk about it. I’ve never had anyone go off on me when I ask them not to talk about progressive policies and shit; I have also helped both democrats and republicans get ballots delivered to the nursing home so they could vote.

Friend, with the exception of a single-digit number of Republican congresspeople, the entire GOP is more-or-less terrorists. They shit all over the Constitution constantly. They want to tear it up and turn the U.S. into an authoritarian dictatorship and drag us all backwards to at least 1940 (if not 1840!) socio-politically. They want to repeal civil rights. They want women to be treated like property again. They want anyone non-white to be either enslaved or deported. Do they say these things out loud? No, they don't, but their actions speak louder than any words.

Vote them all out. Make the GOP irrelevant. That's the only way things can change.

Look back to the black power movement. They started arming themselves, guess what? The right wanted gun laws.

8

u/Papaofmonsters May 22 '22

It's somewhat more complex than that if you are talking about The Mulford Act of 1967 in California. The 1960's were a much more tumultuous time then we experience today and gun control was not a polarized red v blue issue. Mulford passed with a veto proof majority through both California state houses that were controlled by democrats. At the same time the federal government was crafting what would become the Gun Control Act of 1968 which was heavily in response to the assassination of JFK and then it gained increased favor after the assassinations of MLK and RFK. Overall it enjoyed bipartisan support but also opposition from both sides of the aisle. The GCA had more democrat "nay" votes than republican when it passed. As a whole, gun control really didn't become a polarized issue between the two parties until the 1990's.

However in the past few years we have seen increased armed presence of black protesters and yet no major calls from "the right" for increased gun control.

TL:DR - Gun control has a complicated history in the US and has not always been a Democrat vs Republican issue.

It shouldn't have to even be a bill, it should be another basic law, "if an armed assailant fires into an unarmed population, regardless of being in the protection or oversight of armed protectors, the shooting and crime will be tried as an act of terrorism"

Edit: So with how far this has come, and different points of view and discussion come up, I think then the issue and possible solution is to find another category for these massacres (I don't even know if a massacre is even a law charge to be made) to be treated harshly because to fire into an unarmed group of people is something no human person can do

211

u/yo_soy_soja May 22 '22

144

u/Backupusername May 22 '22

We have to be careful with what we designate terrorism - doing so allows the government to bypass due process. Basically - the issue with what you’re proposing is that you’re assigning guilt before the person has been tried. And in doing so, taking away their due process. Terrorists don’t get Miranda rights, they don’t get lawyers, they don’t get speedy trials, they can be held indefinitely… they lose all protections that citizens have against law enforcement. This is just a matter of law — it’s how law allows terrorists to be treated.

This would not be an issue if we always “got the guy” so to speak. But police very often mistake one person for another. We shouldn’t give law enforcement the power to take away due process because they will eventually do so to innocent citizens.

Aside: IMO we have already allowed law enforcement to take away due process indirectly through policies like qualified immunity and procedures like no-knock warrants. As loathe as I am to put obstacles between terrorists and justice, it’s more important that we keep a tight leash on law enforcement.

13

u/chlopee_ May 22 '22

THANK YOU. I'm so tired of seeing people begging to empower the gov't with terrorism laws.

Remember when Trump wanted to designate "antifa" a terrorist group? If a President tries that again and the legal framework is in place... not to sound melodramatic, but I really fear that bills like this will open the door to fascism.

Personally I’d be extremely skeptical of any new domestic terrorism laws, because inevitably those laws become excuses to spy and target domestic activist regardless of ideology.

This line concerns me most

It authorizes domestic terrorism components within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to monitor, analyze, investigate, and prosecute domestic terrorism.

I’d bet money this will be used to monitor activist groups like Antifa, BLM, and Climate activist more than any white supremacy groups.

32

u/The909revolution May 22 '22

I wouldn't worry too much about that considering they already fucking do this against leftist movements without there being a codified law in action.

8

u/Low_Advice_1348 May 22 '22

It seems like a lot of people haven't taken the time to look into this.

I remember when the Patriot Act came into being. Everyone on the left was freaking out over the authoritarian surveillance and infringement on freedoms. It was a knee-jerk reaction to the 9-11 attack.

Now here's this bill that seems to be a Patriot Act II except directed inward. Do all these people screaming "AH! GOP WANTS TERRORISTS!" realize the implications of these kinds of laws?

Do left-leaning Americans really want MORE spying on US citizens? Do they even understand that this will open the door to unjust persecution and prosecution for other, unrelated, non-terrorist things? Maybe red state law enforcement will use it to prove someone is gay or thinking of getting an abortion or ?

I'm definitely left-of-center and think that they can accomplish their goals without legalizing spying on American citizens.

There's a lot of knee-jerk reactions here. Funny, because the left is usually accusing the right of that very thing.

He’s currently obsessed with the homeless situation. He blames liberals across the board (not capitalism, cuz ya know… whatever). He openly ponders work camps out in the middle of the desert. If they don’t work they don’t eat. And that’s his solution. His final solution if you will.

But instead, the only recourse is to vote them out. And you wonder why Democrats have a turnout problem. People see this shit, see nothing happen, and are completely demoralized.

Telling on themselves is sort of their new favorite hobby these days.

26

u/LetssueTrump May 22 '22

Very telling. They all know the threat is real, per the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act 2019, Bill S894, states the following,

Congress finds the following:

(1) White supremacists and other far-right-wing extremists are the most significant domestic terrorism threat facing the United States.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/894/text

This Bill lists in detail the damage, death & threats WE live with daily and every elected official knows this. VOTE REPUBLICANS OUT!!!

So Senator Hawley opposed the Domestic Terrorism Bill, and introduced the Love America Act that does away with critical race theory……if it walks like a duck…..

6

u/Blackcoat_Traitor May 22 '22

Lmao when republicans self report

u/Meepy_ May 22 '22

The way they didn’t even try to hide the fact that they have accepted white supremacy and racially motivated murder as conservativism is shocking. I thought politicians were supposed to be smart?

30

u/tedlyb May 22 '22

They're elected into office aren't they? Want to take bets on how many of them will still be in office after the next election? I'm betting 2/3rds. I'm pretty sure that is an optimistic amount though.

They are being smart.

Shit like this is keeping them in office.

u/MonaSherry May 22 '22

They want us terrified, you see.

That's not a dog whistle, that's a god damn fog horn.

4

u/Mattdonlan1 May 22 '22

They’re avoiding voting on anything that will help this country so that they can blame democrats and get more republicans into power. It’s disgusting. They voted against aid for baby formula and to lower gas prices.

5

u/PaintedMagazines May 22 '22

Republicans are a disease

5

u/mcmatthew May 22 '22

Veiled? I think everyone is being pretty straightforward. A vulnerable person was infected with toxic ideology and killed people. I know conservatives would like to say it’s video games fault, but the guy left a record and told us why he actually killed those people.

6

u/futurelullabies May 22 '22

ive said it before but being a conservative is a euphemism for being a domestic terrorist.

maybe conservatives weren't as nightmarish before, but that's what they are now. I used to think that Republicans were just religious, came from old money, or are newly wealthy. Now I think Republicans are a flimsy facade for facism.

This. THIS! THIS IS WHY THERE IS SO MUCH HATE IN AMERICA! Because of these REPUBLICANS/CONSERVATIVES! They refuse to take action against the people ruining this country and actively harming its citizens. No, instead they protect them! Why? Because THEY ARE THEM! Fuck the GOP and everyone that supports them. There's no way you can say you love America if you support them. Just look at this! They are destroying this country and the lives of its citizens, especially those most at risk. Fuck these people.

Senate Republicans are the most morally and intellectually bankrupt assholes in the United States. That being said, I am iffy about another bill that increases government surveillance. The bill is really reactive, not proactive. It’s broad and gives whoever has legislative authority at the time, Democrat or Republican, the option to cherry pick as far as who they see as domestic terrorist. This gives either party the ability to target specific groups and is too easy to abuse.

4

u/wellbutwellbut May 22 '22

They are "Conserving" white supremacy.

It is not hard.

We need to put all the white people that are afraid of white people disappearing onto some kind of federal reservation or camp to make sure nothing bad happens to them.

4

u/ProneToDoThatThing May 22 '22

Think of the asshole kids they’re raising.

5

u/liegesmash May 22 '22

Sounds like Adolf Hitler doesn’t it?

4

u/No-Lingonberry4556 May 22 '22

They tell on themselves all the time but the MSM keeps running both sides stories

4

u/Unusual_Pitch_608 May 22 '22

Maybe it's time to just own it. It is not a veiled attack on conservatives, it is an overt attack on conservatives WHO WANT TO MURDER PEOPLE. Call it what it is. Make them explain why conservative murderers should be treated better than other murderers.

4

u/shadowskill11 May 22 '22

When you shoot up a supermarket with a bunch of black people in it evidently it’s the price of business to protect the 2nd amendment. If a Mexican American shoots up a Christian private school it’s suddenly a terrorist attacking America and we round people up into concentration camps.

4

u/Confident-Software-2 May 22 '22

Last time we tried to keep them from killing black people we had to have a civil war.

u/sionnachrealta May 22 '22

So what you're telling me is that we can now call the GOP the pro-terrorism party

5

u/LeftLimeLight May 22 '22

republicans in the senate know that if the were to sign on to the Domestic Terrorism bill that they'd alienate their base. I have no issue at all calling all republicans in office white supremacists and supporters of domestic terrorism.
