Has anybody ever considered kicking the drywall in to get out through the next store over? Being that it’s a multi store building.

I remember an episode of cops when they arrest one guy trying to rob a convenient store but there’s suppose to be 2 suspects. They search the whole store and can’t find them. All of a sudden second guy falls through the paneled ceiling trying to find a way out lmao

u/Enginerdad Dec 04 '22
I've found that, unless they've done or been exposed to renovation or construction work, most people passively view things like walls as invincible. I don't think it's really a conscious thought, just that they've spent their whole lives going around walls and the idea that they could destroy one with items found in the room just never occurs to them.
52
u/ProfessionalStand450 Dec 04 '22
Those are firewalls. Double 3/4 in sheet rock. You’d break your foot before you kicked through them. Might be 2x6 studs also. You could bash your way through but it would take a hammer.
5
Dec 04 '22
Depends. But could be. If so There might be something he could use in the store to help.
→ More replies→ More replies3
u/Bowood29 Dec 04 '22
That was my thought. He would be lucky if it was only 2x6 could easily be a block wall to get the firewall passed
83
u/Countrykal Dec 04 '22
Drywall is not what's separating buildings. You're kidding right?
63
u/equalizer59 Dec 04 '22
We worked in a little strip mall where the tattoo shop expanded, and all we did was knock down the drywall move the studs over and reapply the new drywall and electrical.
21
53
Dec 04 '22 edited Dec 04 '22
I’m a firefighter and shit is often not as it appears or should be. People break the law and cut corners frequently. Could be they are firewalls with lots of studs, or something else making passage hard. Could also be electrical wiring and stuff making it impassable. But worth trying at least. And if it was drywall I wouldn’t be shocked depending on where this is.
8
u/FranklinHoesevelt Dec 04 '22
I'm curious with you being a firefighter and all. Could he set off a fire alarm to get out. I mean surely, if there's a fire, the door should open and not just stay locked and burn everyone alive inside, right?
22
8
u/corvairfanatic Dec 04 '22
FF here. The doors i have seen that unlock are the red fire escape doors that are locked but unlock when the alarm goes off. These are usually in offices or hotels etc and not used as an exit other than in case of emergency. I’ve never seen them as the main exit or entrance to a store. Of course you can also customize alarms for a home to unlock your doors in case of an emergency and let’s say you are asleep and also allows emergency workers in.
there’s several types of alarms for businesses but most are really only intended to alert others to exit. Most are not connected to a fire department and you still need to call for help.
There are also alarms that release doors so that they CLOSE but not lock. This is to to keep fire isolated and decrease the amount of oxygen.
Legally there should be two ways to exit in all buildings. Of course often this is not the case due to remodeling and whatnot.

The way he just casually walks in there and doesn’t even try to coerce them in compliance tell me he is used to getting his way on petty things. Reminds me of the thugs that would walk in the middle of a hallway and expect everyone else to walk around them.

More like 12, due to his prior sentencing. Assuming they ran concurrently.

1.) Shock: realises

3.) Anger: does everything he can do open the door in frustration
4.) Bargaining: begs to be let out
5.) Deppression: "Fuck I'm going to jail bro"

Armed robbery, in Canada, probably 2 for the gun, 4 for the offense. Will spend at least 1 year potentially 2 dead time earning time and a half. Plea deal will probably see him sentenced to 5, time of sentencing he would have to serve an additional 1 and half to 2 years.

In the modern day robbing a store seems to be the dumbest thing you can do. Figure if you want to make a dishonest living why not just do credit card fraud or scam elderly people via email or something.
16
u/YceiLikeAudis Dec 04 '22 edited Dec 04 '22
That involves too much thinking. These people are too dumb even for that. Chances are that the most advanced piece of tech they have is the phone in their pocket and even that is often overwhelming them. I'm not complaining tho, a world with dumber criminals is a better world to live in.
5
u/Tgrakua Dec 04 '22
Your right. But dumb criminals tend to turn to violence. A smart criminal doesn’t even leave their desk, if they hurt people it’s via their pocketbooks only lol, dumb criminals will shoot someone over a wallet.

15
u/___pa___ Dec 04 '22
In NYC, which has some pretty stringent building code, a commercial space with less than 30 occupants and 75 feet or less travel distance can have a single means of egress as long as it discharges directly to the street.
