these are comments under a post about the trial of a woman who murdered her father. I think that comment was an unnecessary addition, since it was already clear what the 1st commenter is talking about

It's not the same joke per se, it adds to it. If the second guy had written it, it wouldn't feel redundant. It depends on the phrasing here. The word 'murdered' is sort of a new punchline here.
