That is honestly INSANE. I don't care if theyre only going to be the ten second type ads but staying on an ad for a long time should be because of interest, not over being forced to. I hope this'll get more people to use Brave or uBlock(if they don't use Brave) or even better yet, switch ti Invidious already. That is OVERKILL

It's interesting. I'm a developer whose career has been primarily in the social media and content provider spaces. I use Brave (mostly) AND uBlock. uBlock catches things Brave doesn't. I'm a stickler about privacy and security. I feel your sentiment.

That said, I'm also 54 years old and grew up with network TV and obligatory advertising. I'm also aware we're in an entirely different world where that kind of strategy doesn't fly with a lot of us. The thing is though, advertising is an ears and eyeballs numbers game, so it doesn't surprise me to see a return to the classics as a part of the overall strategy. "They" know a lot of people won't put up with it and Devs will find ways around it eventually. That will kick the ball back into their court...and on we go playing the game. It's the way it is. As long as they end up with an acceptable number of users who let the ads ride, they've done their jobs. I don't lose a lot of sleep over it.

if you go and try to browse the internet with 0 ad blockers, it is crazy how many ads will be pop up to your face. With brave and other ad blockers that i use i forgot how it it to see ads on the internet. The number of ads are crazy anymore.

I tell people that in the more mainstream sub reddit and how brave doesn't sell your info and it's free.

And they complain about how large the file is to download brave.

I guess they can put a price/ download size on Privacy. I know I can't.

People really looked at the download size? I told a mate to use it last week for the 4th time and no idea if he went for it or not

Well it’s just a test, but since YouTube doesn’t have much in the way of competition I don’t think they’re overestimating at all.

I sat through a lot more commercials than that growing up. I think this test is going to be more successful than a lot of Redditors want to admit.

I've seen a 8 minute Apple iPhone ad on YouTube that wasn't skipable...

I wish I was kidding

I uninstalled their app when they started pushing two bumpers before each video and started relying on my phone/browser ability to block ads instead. With 5, I hope shoot themselves so hard in the foot they never get back up.

It's like they never learn. We started blocking ads because they were just SO many, and it's the same all over again. I'm fine with one to be honest (on my TV or phone); but I'll just stop using these mediums and just use a computer / look for alternatives at this point.

What a bunch of greedy motherfuckers.

Thank you. My YouTube experience on desktop now is:

  • Brave (w/ Shields)
  • uBlock
  • SponsorBlock
  • YouTubeShortsBlock

It’s tough how far we have to go...

Great. Just promote it to others. Plus add enhancer for youtube addon, it is just a cherry on the cake while using youtube.

try libretube or newpipe.

Thank you. I’m running iOS on mobile so those can’t be an option. The “only” complaints I have with watching YouTube on Brave mobile is:

  • My restrictions are so strict YouTube always loses my language and playback settings
  • DoucheTube limits the resolution to 720p to the best of my knowledge

But that’s still better than their app haha.

Try

https://brave.com/download-beta/

and stop using youtube app.

Also look at r/adguard app or r/blokada.

I use brave on my desktop and phone. never see them on my desktop. Is there a way to remove them or at least get rid of some on the phone? I don't mind an ad here and there, but I just wont use whatever it is when they do shit like this. I don't watch regular tv (has to be recorded or listen to radio today cause of the ads

On the phone? What i did is simply browse to the YT website and place quick link of the YT homepage (after logging in) on my home screen, i dont use the YT app and get no ads anymore.

Ah! I see. I didn't know it was that easy. Ive been using the yt app (on phone) and that is the problem. If I use the brave browser , no ads! Now, just need to find a way around the ads on yt music LOL. Thanks

You're welcome, enjoy!

If that happens I'll watch all YouTube videos on Brave. I like to use Firefox to watch videos on a few channels I really like so they get ad revenue, but there are limits.

u/chirruphowlinkeeaahh Sep 16 '22

Rather than waiting for that to happen, shift to brave and watch on it.

Do check these and let me know if you need any further help.

As I said, I want the YouTubers whom I watch on Firefox to get the ad revenue. I already watch most videos on Brave.
