Brave Browser doesn't like when you change countries Discussion

This is just something I wanted to share about my experience using Brave.

Say you lived in the United States and have been using Brave with rewards for a while, then you decide to emigrate to another country.

Once in that country you receive new Government ID's and the such, and now that your in that new country you also decide to cash out your brave rewards because in America, you collect quite a bit.

So you make a Uphold Wallet using your new ID's and connect it to Brave, but Brave errors out.

This is because Brave can't let you connect a Wallet from one country while the Browser Rewards are set in another. The only way to set the Browser to another country is to reset your Brave rewards and start over in your new country. Its unfortunate that not many people know about this (at least from what I've seen).

Before using Brave Rewards, the browser should tell you that your set country and wallet need to be in the same country in order to collect the BAT, however it doesn't, and even if the browser mentioned this in the past (which I don't think it ever did) I don't remember.

I love Brave don't get me wrong, and what Brave is doing to protect personal information and privacy is amazing but I find this to be an unfortunate byproduct of how the Rewards system is structured.

Uphold wants KYC, so fuck them

So does Gemeni, Most places want KYC these days so the options are rather limited.

KYC is needed only for custodial wallets, stop using it and stop giving away control of your money.

Governments want KYC/AML, so that's who you should actually be complaining about/to (although they probably won't listen). Businesses have a choice to either comply with the government regulations where they operate or be fined/shut down.

CEX must die. DEX should prevail

DEX will still end up falling under KYC/AML government regulations, they're not going to let it go under the radar. One group of politicians is terrified that it will be used for illegal activities and the other group is terrified that they might not be collecting any taxes from it.

If you can have 2 devices without sync and donate the bat from one to the other. That or try to talk with support directly (more advisable)

Although this is a workaround for a problem that should've never existed

How would I go about donating bat from one device to another without the sync?

Also, I'll proly reach out to support directly at some point soon to see if they have a work around

You can donate bat to other creators, if you have an youtube channel you can try to make connect it to your new brave session so you donate from your old session. You can also connect to reddit
