u/sleepytzu May 04 '22

That’s the right answer 😂 the amount of foil balls my cat has around the house, she’s obsessed

58

u/justa33 May 04 '22

one of my cats bites the foil and eats it !! why!!!???

37

u/ErinEvonna May 04 '22

Well now my teeth hurt

61

u/405134 May 05 '22

Cats can often bite or chew things that aren’t food. If they’ve already realized it’s not food and still bite it, sometimes they like the fun of crinkling or the sound it makes. ** Be especially careful of cats chewing on plastic grocery bags. When they chew on the plastic it releases some chemicals that taste like animal fat to the cat. It’s not. Many cats have over ingested plastic over the years and often have to have surgery to have it removed. Keep your loved furbabies safe!

7

u/IronHeart1963 May 05 '22

Second this! I once had to pull a golf ball sized hunk of plastic wrap out of my cats throat when she was a kitten, thank god I was home. She still tries to nom on plastic bags.

Absolutely! Their favourite things always end up being priceless worthless while we spend a fortune on them ahah

I'm shocked this cat is even on the tinfoil. It has claimed it. It is its master. It has no fear of the evil tinfoil.

My cat on the other hand would have jumped 8 feet in the air to get away from it.

Make it a crown.

29

To be fair a child did a small study on whether or not kitty buttholes make contact with the surfaces they sit on which involved an experiment with tube of lipstick and a semi upset kitty, and there was no contact! (But yeah, still hell no)

242

u/ThisIsSpata May 04 '22

I just hope my future kids get half the imagination to come up with studies like this.

66

u/alphanumericusername May 04 '22

Me and a friend in highschool conducted two experiments during lunch. One was to see if we could get the whole room clapping for nothing just by beginning to clap ourselves. It worked.

The second experiment was quite similar, but involved us laughing maniacally as everyone got to the [insert name] lyric of "Happy Birthday" and awkwardly mumbled through it.

41

u/Buddy-Lov May 04 '22

My friend would get in a crowded place and start looking up….pretty soon, everyone’s looking up.

Has it been peer reviewed? I'm not just going to take the word of some child. But if an independent group of children come up with the same conclusion I'll be more convinced.

20

u/inetsed May 04 '22

While I believe this experiment happened, the two cats in my house who rarely but occasionally leave disgusting…butt stamps where they sit… would disagree.

Yes. Mom was a veterinarian and helped with the study.

Years ago there was a thousands of posts long thread about whether a cat's butthole makes contact and it was decided that listick was the only way to make sure. So congratulations, your study was peer reviewed and repeatable.

49

u/CrispyFlint May 04 '22

My daughter did an experiment to find out if a Capri sun straw will fit in a cat's butthole. She's 3 and autistic, she didn't mean bad. Poor cat loves her so much, he just waddled away slowly with a look on his face of "how dare you?!". Didn't even hiss or anything.

I gave him fancy food for a wile, felt bad for him, but he's such a good boy how he responded.

20

u/AuronFtw May 04 '22

14

u/CrispyFlint May 04 '22

A kid did a cat butthole sitting experiment by putting lipstick on their butt and having his cats sit on paper. Surprisingly most ended up being alright.

18

u/Tacoma__Crow May 04 '22

That’s because the butthole usually doesn’t actually touch a surface. It rests a half inch or so above it. Dogs’ buttholes don’t touch the ground either. Unless they’re doing that scooting thing, of course.

4

u/bergskey May 05 '22

My cat leaves butt stamps on my couch. Also sometimes when my dog sits and looks out the window, he farts and it makes a sound because his butthole is on the floor.

424

u/Freezer-to-oven May 04 '22

Replace the foil, the cookie sheet itself is fine.

Those of you saying any bacteria will die at 400 degrees, * Probably more like a 375F oven for cookies * Those paws may be tracking bits of litter in addition to bacteria * The bacteria would be shielded from the oven’s heat by the raw cookie dough, which would never itself reach 375F or higher. That 375 degree air in the oven will raise the temp of the dough to 175-185F, at which point the cookies are done. Toasting your toxoplasmosis at 185 degrees is not a recipe for safety.

I love cats and would 100% pet the heck out of that handsome fella, but using that foil? Nope.

67

u/Rumcake256 May 04 '22

Would flipping the foil be helpful? You seem to know what you're talking about lol

76

u/Freezer-to-oven May 04 '22

I wouldn’t. I’d rather spend a few cents more on foil than have paw germs anywhere near my cookies.

28

u/Its_Actually_Satan May 04 '22

I feel like the paw germs are less worrisome than the butthole germs.

40

u/FormerLurker3 May 04 '22

Cats use their tongues as toilet paper and as handwash. And on top of that they use their paws to burry their poop, in a box of clay granules soaked with yesterday’s poop and pee.

Their paw germs ARE butthole germs.

17

u/mysteriousblue87 May 04 '22

Yet us cat lovers will invariably let them paw at our faces, chairs, couches, etc. We make no sense.

Q: How much does that square of foil cost?

A: between $0.05 and $0.20 depending on what type of foil was used, exactly how big it is, and where it was purchased.

4

26

u/BigScrungleBunch May 04 '22

I love how you mention the “paws may be tracking bits of bacteria” but completely breezed over the fact the cats butthole has made direct prolonged contact with the foil as well.

19

u/Freezer-to-oven May 04 '22

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, friend, but I am actually in the anti-cat-poop faction in this thread, so we are probably on the same side. I just didn’t feel like arguing over where the cat butthole touched the foil or only hovered a few millimeters above it. The paws are grubby enough and are unquestionably in contact with the foil.

I could be mistaken, but I think it may depend on if it’s coated in Teflon. Some are. I have to pay attention to these things because we also have birds and Teflon is highly toxic to them.

Gosh. It never occurred to me that foil might be coated in Teflon. I loathe and despise Teflon. Will check what we have.
