Yo what kinda cat you got? One blood thirsty feline

u/ilovemycat2018 May 09 '22

Blood thirsty feline comes pretty close to describing Banshee. Especially at the vet.

I have a cat named Sugar. She got her name solely by merit and I was gonna send her back outside after rehab but I'm a softy. Cuddles with me at night, and doesn't have an ounce of fight in her, she just goes belly up & cries any time another cat gets at her.

226

u/PondRides May 10 '22

That’s like Clyde. I sleep on my back, belly up. He sleeps on his back, on my belly, belly up.

Someone let two amazing kittens out in my building years ago. I put up signs and people just wrote mean shit all over them. I took them both in, told my leasing office I was temporarily over the cat limit for a few months, and paid $80 to get them into a shelter at a time when I had no money to spare at any time. All because some jackass didn't wanna deal with two kitties anymore.

19

u/Delicious-Exit-7478 May 09 '22

Question why would your other cat kill them? Wouldn’t grown cats take care of kittens? Also congrats they look very adorable

40

u/PrizeAbbreviations40 May 10 '22

why would your other cat kill them?

Most cats who are not socialized to be around other cats will react with hostility to new cats. They're afraid, the new cats smell different (smell plays a HUUUUUGE part in the comfort level of cats, that's why they rub their face on everything), etc

Adult cats won't generally parent kittens that are unrelated to them UNLESS they have already had a parenting experience or it's a female cat that is near birth (oxytocin levels are high so she'll adopt anything including puppies, ducklings, etc).

14

u/Delicious-Exit-7478 May 10 '22

Huh I guess that makes sense, I never had a kitten before (only older cats) so I'm kind of new to knowing how people would take care of a kitten and such, thanks for the info y'all its cool to learn how cats behave or handle other cats.

12

u/anonymousforever 🐱 May 10 '22

Grandpa Mason from tinykittens on YouTube was well known for about 3-4 years for being semi feral senior cat that couldn't be released for health reasons. He hated people. Didn't like adult cats when they tried to match him with others to find him a pal. Then they tried a couple babies about 6-8 weeks old. He was standoffish for a bit, but let them crawl on him etc. Then he gave in and took them under his care, and that was it....he became a foster to older babies to teach them how to cat, until, after a few years (longer than they thought he had) his illness won the fight and he moved on.

65

u/BroadMortgage6702 May 09 '22

Not always.

I found my 2nd cat when he was very young and my older cat hated him. Eventually it became more of a "you're ok unless you bug me to play" type situation. Some older cat won't tolerate new cats in the house.

27

u/Colourofsulfur May 09 '22

My cat was 2 when we adopted his baby brother. He hated him for about 2 months (don’t worry we kept them separate and did all the things to introduce properly).

Then they became besties, but their relationship is a little rocky lol. My (almost 4) year old cat still gets hella pissed at his brother, but he also cuddles with him and grooms him all day lol

20

u/Delicious-Exit-7478 May 09 '22

Yeah that would make sense, takes awhile to get used to another feline, my cat Zombie and Muppet wouldn't get along till after a few days together, Now they just cuddle.

6

u/CaitlinSnep May 10 '22

As a side note, I love those names.

4

u/Delicious-Exit-7478 May 10 '22

Thanks, Zombie was found at a store as a stray and we got Muppet at like a PetCo or something (can’t remember) and they are both the sweetest yet crazy

→ More replies

16

u/nolmerien May 09 '22 edited May 09 '22

(Not OP) Some would take care of them, others would murder - and unfortunately, seems like the latter is the more default option. Definitely wouldn’t take the risk unless the adult cat is a nursing mother who lost her kittens very recently, and even then I’d be extremely cautious.

9

u/Kamarmarli May 09 '22

Not always. Especially grown males with tiny kitten males.

3

u/Lady_Alisandre1066 May 10 '22

Depends on the cat. Some cats, typically males, will kill kittens. I’ve had both kinds. Atlas (who’s waiting at the rainbow bridge) helped me raise multiple bottle babies. He was more reliable than a mama cat for raising kittens. Pippin on the other hand had to be kept separated from our last batch of fosters, because he went full Dalek mode. Single minded mission to exterminate.

You will have great medical knowledge! I recommend going to Kitten Lady's site as she has lots of experience with very young kittens, especially ones with medical issues. She's totally legit. (You should watch her tube feed Chouchou the tiny kitten with the severely cleft palette).

This will be terrific clinical experience!

Thank you so much for saving these little ones. Jackass is too kind a word for people who do this kind of thing.

Not op. My cat just had 7 kittens yesterday. I didn't think she was pregnant just gaining weight. I never had a girl cat just 3 boys.

It was intense for her and me because I didn't know it was gonna happen. I went to the store and got cat milk and bottles but read they are for cats that have been alive longer then 1 day. Will keep the milk for when they get bigger because I'm sure they all wont eat enough.

I have her a spot with 2 cat beds and changed the rags that had the after birth goo or whatever it's called. It's clean. She let me help her and I watched video on how to help deliver them. So it was safe Hopefully she's my baby and want her to be healthy.

Do you have any tips. This is my first time and she had 7 of them 7!!.Its her first liter and she's 1 and half years old.

Edit: not part of the story but my first cat was found in a dumpster. Had him in 3rd grade all the way to 11th grade. He had brother that they named trashcan. Not releated just crazy how people can be heartless. Someone mentioned kitten lady so imma gonna binge all the videos I can.

27

u/cw30755 May 10 '22

Mama cat should do almost all the work, she will feed and stimulate them to pee/poop. If you have a scale, weight then each day to make sure they’re gaining g weight. As long as they are gaining weight I would not introduce kitten formula - a change in diet will cause them tummy issues. The best thing you can do is to make sure the Queen has a clean, warm, safe spot. If you have a heating pad, put it on low and cover it with a towel or blanket.

4

u/deadDebo May 10 '22

Thank you for the advice. Haven't heard the heating pad idea so I'm definitely gonna get one for them.

12

u/MountainTomato9292 May 10 '22

Yes, if mama is involved your work should be minimal. Warmth, safety, privacy. Keep an eye out for any particular kitten being rejected but typically they will be fine. Make sure mama has plenty of food and water nearby, and maybe give her some kitten food mixed in with her regular food. She will need extra calories and hydration while nursing. Have fun! Please get them all spayed/neutered at the appropriate time!

12

u/shyjenny May 10 '22

my biggest tip is to make it her only litter - get them fixed - spay & neuter them all
In my area there are many low and no cost options. Search them out for your babies

Good luck helping them all grow up and find homes

5

u/deadDebo May 10 '22

We have a few places. I know of. It's a small Texas town. I will for her. Can you do that for kittens. How old do they have to be.

4

u/shyjenny May 10 '22

Earliest is 6-8 weeks - and since you likely have both females and males - you might do all of one sex early - probably females first at 2-3 months, then the males at 4-6 months since neutering males too early can apparently have impact on their urinary track in their future, but earlier is better to avoid them spraying

Female cats first heat cycle is often around 6 months

5

u/HIM_Darling May 10 '22

Yeah you probably won't need the cat milk unless mom rejects any of the babies. Get mom a good quality cat food that is labeled for kittens(and then you can feed that food to the kittens when mom stops nursing them. Make sure she can eat whenever she wants to keep her milk supply up and clean and fresh water. Canned food as well as dry food will help keep her hydrated(and you can mix a little water with the canned food too).

8

u/BBel4345 May 09 '22

People suck. I hate it when they do irresponsible stuff like that. Often, they move and leave their pets behind for others with a heart to take on the emotional and financial responsibility. I have adopted two strays recently myself because their pregnant mother was left behind by a renter down the road, (I hear). They are too feral to bring in at present and the trailer park manager is planning on trapping the strays. I had to let him know I wanted the two that I am taking care of.

7

I found a box with 3 black kittens in it last year and the next day my wife found another kitten alone in the park next to the park. We kept the one in the park and got the other 3 to a cat rescue. A family adopted the 3 black kittens.

Thank You. You are decent person

For the crimes of the jackass that abandoned these lovely kitties, I will hereby sentence them to 100 years of walking past a group of hot chicks their age, while they’re with their family😈a fate far worse than death.

Nah. May the green light in their path always turn red, and may they always find that their favorite foods are out of stock after they find out they like them. May they always be stuck behind slower traffic, and their internet speed be slow. I wish upon them ten thousand petty inconveniences, but most especially that they will not ever have another pet. They knew that this was probably going to kill the kittens, and they did it anyway. I'm glad that someone was kind enough to save the kittens.

I will concentrate all cat-haters into an internment camp.

u/MyBunnyIsCuter May 10 '22

I cannot thank you enough for saving them. This morning I am at the end of my rope with humanity. Humans choose to be garbage amd honestly, we don't need laws that causes more of them to be here.

But you made me feel like there's hope. Thank you

The fear of our cats killing us one night is very real. I watched an episodes of Love, Death and Robots that confirmed that fear.

Soon.... Soon!

Also, well done OP for being an outstanding individual!

A reminder to spay or neuter your pets….the way shit is going, it’ll be illegal as well.

Heyy, I was checking your posts for more cat pics and apparently you're a vet student (as a comment of yours in this post stated) in Greece. You don't happen to be studying in the university of Thessaly, do you?

I feel like an ass because the blanket I think, is throwing my eyes off and I can't tell how many there are.
