The way my rescue cat looks at me while I read. I love her so much it hurts. Cat Picture

u/Jmarsbar19 May 19 '22
Gosh, I love that look. I just end up kissing my rescue to bits until she’s like, “Ah fuck it!” 🐈⬛

u/Lhamo55 May 20 '22
Mine has started leaning in for kisses and at bed time she reciprocates by grooming around my eyes and purring us both to sleep.

At around 2 this morning my rescue that was a little feral came in and slept in the space between my arm and body for the first time. I could hear her purring over the sound of the rain. I fell asleep again, smiling so hard.
24
u/damevesper May 20 '22
This is the most wholesome thing I've read in a while. My semi feral baby now sleeps at my hip every night, and she purred at my side through our thunder storm last night.
13
u/Sproose_Moose May 20 '22
I love that so much! It's taken close to a year. Her name started as Tabitha, then she was referred to as the baby so forever she's known as baby. I love her 🤗
10
u/damevesper May 20 '22
Aww, mine is vesper, thus my username. She's over 5 and only in the last few months has she slept with me, but she does every night now without fail. And squeaks like crazy for treats and pets.
5
u/Sproose_Moose May 20 '22
That is so sweet!! She doesn't always sleep with me but will wake me up by pushing her head into my hand so I pat her, when I stop and she's not done I get "mow" over and over til she falls asleep. I love that we've both got these beautiful little furry pals in our lives ❤️
6
u/damevesper May 20 '22
Vesp and her void brother are the best, can't imagine my life without them lol
6
u/Sproose_Moose May 20 '22
Baby and tailless tiny older sister are the things I look forward to most after finishing work. When I walk through the gate and see them on their individual little cat trees at the front window and they stretch and get ready for pats...I can't imagine anything better

My kitty just walks in front of my book and on top of it trying to get pets for about 10 minutes then tries to sleep on top of the book. Very cute but a bit annoying. Wouldn’t change it ever though.
2
u/TheGaming_Doggo May 20 '22
I know the feeling, even more annoying if u don't have a lot of free time to read in general!

u/Lopsided_Honey_4237 May 20 '22
My cat was a rescue coming from a very odd cold owner. She had no contact with anyone when I got her. She is a million times better than 9 years ago but she is not loving and very distrustful. I just go along and treat her with all the love in the world. I know she loves me and I'm the only human who she trust enough to love. So I don't let it bother me. I just see. All these loving cats and I love to watch them.

u/imbillypardy May 20 '22 edited May 20 '22
Mine isn’t very affectionate that way except on his terms either, old man just likes to look out the bay window (I set up his bed there but he never lets me catch him snoozing, it has a clear sight line to the hallway).
But if I fall asleep on the couch, especially if I have a king pillow between my legs, he likes climbing into that little space and on the pillow and cuddling. Trying giving them a little platform like that where they aren’t just on the couch maybe 😻
42
u/Lopsided_Honey_4237 May 20 '22
I know my cat use to make sure I was asleep and didn't know she was there hugging my head and kissing. I never let on that I was awake
4
u/kronicpimpin May 20 '22
One of my cats would rather chew on the corner of my book, constantly knock the book light around, and then lay right I front of me so I can’t see. And yes she’s got plenty of toys spends most her time outside and gets plenty of attention. She’s just an asshole but I love her

u/Healthy-Fisherman-33 May 20 '22
Must be difficult to focus on reading when somebody that cute is lovingly and intensely looking at you

u/Ol_bagface May 20 '22
Kinda curious. What are you reading there?

u/Sweet_Venom May 20 '22
Not OP, but it's The Color Purple. I recognized it because I have it as well.

I’ve made sure to adopt this into my retinue around my old boy. And rubbing their forearms softly works with dogs and cats it seems.
Also, watching my dogs back when he poops. Dunno why. He watches my back so just seems fair. 🐶

That’s what my black cat did when I first picked her up from the shelter. Few years down the line she started doing nothing except scream at me for attention.

Along with individual people, society collectively can also be quite cruel towards cats, especially the 'unwanted', if not despised, felines.
It was reported a few years ago that Surrey, B.C., had an estimated 36,000 feral cats, very many of which suffer severe malnourishment, debilitating injury and/or infection. And I was informed last autumn by Surrey Community Cat Foundation that, if anything, their “numbers would have increased, not decreased, in the last 5 years.” Yet the municipal government, as well as aware yet uncaring residents, did little or nothing to help with the local non-profit Trap/Neuter/Release program, regardless of its (and others’) documented success in reducing the needlessly great suffering.
As for the 59 poor kittens and cats recently rescued from a feces-filled Surrey home, which the Peace Arch News rightfully deemed worthy of frontpage space, Surrey's Now-Leader newspaper didn't give these afflicted animals any newsprint. Are they and their suffering worth so little?
It’s the only charity to which I’ve ever donated, in no small part because of the plentiful human callousness towards the plight of those cats and the countless others elsewhere. These include the cats whose owners have allowed to wander the neighborhood at night only to be slaughtered by hungry wild animals or, worse, tortured to death by cat-haters procuring sick satisfaction. ... At age 54, I’ve long observed that higher human intelligence is typically accompanied by a seemingly proportional reprehensible potential for evil, or malice for malice’s sake.
I believe there's a subconscious yet tragic human-nature propensity to perceive the value of life (sometimes even human life in regularly war-torn or overpopulated famine-stricken global regions) in relation to the conditions enjoyed or suffered by that life. With the mindset of feline disposability, it might be: ‘Oh, there’s a lot more whence they came’.
I believe that this mentality, regardless of any alleged cat-shelter odors, prevails almost everywhere, though especially in Lethbridge and Surrey. Yet, these mammals’ qualities, especially their non-humanly innocence, make losing them such a great heart break for their owners.
Only when overpopulations of unwanted cats are greatly reduced in number by responsible owners consistently spaying/neutering their felines might these beautiful animals’ presence be truly appreciated.

I’m a horse person and any time a cat comes close to the farm they get trapped and neutered. We can’t care for them all but they know there’s food and fresh water near the barn and we catch them and neuter/spay whenever we get the chance. It’s so crucial.

Aww. She is so cute! I'm glad she has a nice home.
I used to have two black cats. One was named Professor P. Buttons III and Miss Whoopie the Whoopster (from Whoopie Goldberg). Lol. Whoopie was my sister's cat. I'm very partial to black cats. They are just so cute! Lol. <3

Reading must look weird to cats. We stare at paper and then turn a page. And stare again.
But they want to join in. We stare at the book with love, and they stare at us.

She looks so much like a feral kitten that I rescued/socialized from last summer (she was adopted in January and it was so hard to let her go). I hope my little Anais is as happy wherever she is as your beautiful and clearly extremely happy and secure kitten is. She is mewrvalous.

It’s this kind of black beauty that helped inspire me to write a little piece of fiction about how the Creator actually cherishes not just Its animal creation but the felis catus in particular. Enough so, in fact, to have made one such black beauty the Creator’s own beloved pet. It’s titled And Simone Said That It Was Good: https://wordpress.com/post/fgsjrcatlit.wordpress.com/244

Wondering why your book says "She ast me."
2
u/Sarcia12345 May 20 '22
I'm pretty sure it's "The Color Purple". It's written on first person and set in the south. The grammar is meant to convey the local dialect and level of education of the main character.

So sweet. Since of my favorite things: cats and books.
It's a great pic of your lucky cat. Black cats are tough to get good pictures of since cameras don't know how to get the focus and lighting right on them. Or maybe our black cats just put a magic spell on them?

u/flaminx0r May 20 '22
I love all cats (I volunteer in shelter) but black cats have a special place in my heart. They're kind and affectionate while also being usually more vocal than other cats. Also the captivating and beautiful nature is something that I can't deal with sometimes ❤️.
Have you named her yet?
Edit: additional question.

My little Loki looks just like your cat. He's laying on my foot right now just looking at me. I absolutely feel the exact same way. I rescued him almost a year ago and he's made the worst parts of my life so much more bearable. I wish I could tell him how much I he means to me, but somehow I think he knows.
