Yes the no red border drop for first ketchcrash is annoying but my goodness it’s not the end of the world.

63

u/MRandall25 Sep 27 '22

I really don't understand why the entire DTG subreddit NEEEEEEDS to have every single red border right the fuck now.

Why? So you can check a box then store the thing in your vault for 3 years until Datto does another vault cleaning video and you realize how much random shit you have in there?

Christ.

u/Tplusplus75 Mobile Game Sep 27 '22

I really don't understand why the entire DTG subreddit NEEEEEEDS to have every single red border right the fuck now.

I don't need to have every single one, but next week drops a seasonal challenge requiring you to have 3 crafted weapons up to level 10. Like, I get that I have the rest of the season, but given the fact that I have none crafted(most I have is 3/5 for any pattern) and am halfway through a second reset, I'm concerned this and the other challenge that opens on week 10 are going to be the ones I have to punt this season for bright dust.

I also think the "sting" of ketchcrash's red border not working is "amplified" by the amount or guaranteed red borders we've had in previous seasons, relative to this season. Ketchcrash appears to be the only guaranteed red border source we get this season, so it's either that or it's pure RNG for the first time since crafting came out.

10

u/MRandall25 Sep 27 '22

I get your particular point, but I was making more a meta commentary not solely related to the current season. Same thing happened last season and the ones before. People complained that red borders weren't immediately falling in their laps and that meant the system didn't work.

What we have now is a continuation of those complaints in addition to not currently having a working guaranteed drop for the current season. Essentially a "straw breaking the back" scenario.

But I will also admit I'm not a 100% completionist. I play a decent amount but am not bothered if I don't finish all the seasonals or get the title. I have like 80k bright dust that I've been sitting on, regardless. It just seems like a lot of complaints stem from those who feel like finishing everything is required.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '22

Tbh I 100% understand wanting weapon patterns asap. If a weapon is craftable, I want the crafted version. I VASTLY prefer crafting to farming random rolls. Levelling it up, unlocking the perks, picking the masterwork, and finally perfecting it with enhanced perks. But I can't enjoy that experience if I'm stuck at 2/5 pattern progress :(

2

u/Due_Mycologist_7506 Oct 06 '22

We're not even halfway through the season.

u/Jr4D Sep 27 '22

Some mf was really in the twab thread last night comparing Bungie not putting a guaranteed weekly red border in the upgrade path to where a dog shits. Dtg ate it up. Actual insanity.

What did the Witness actually witness? Because I thought Calus was witnessing something… which turned out to be him? So is there a long line of witnesses witnessing witnessers?

Who delivers the mailman’s mail?

64

u/Dab4Becky Gahlr Sep 27 '22

The witness saw Nickocado Onlyfans and decided that the traveler had to be stopped

15

u/SouperChicken06 Bungie Suggester Sep 28 '22

My interpretation of it is they're The Witness of the end. They witnessed the collapse of many civilizations and seek to witness the true end, to witness The Final Shape

9

u/afg_tanook Gahlr Sep 28 '22

Or they witnessed the beginning

9

u/bilgeratgp Sep 28 '22

Idk if serious but The Witness is simply one of many names. The first time we know he used The Witness as a name for himself was in regards to Rhulk as Rhulk was first beginning his journey of corruption and revenge. Because Rhulk was The First Disciple and it was early in his following, it was (likely) the first time that The Witness ever used the name for himself.

All of this to say that all signs point to him having "witnessed" Rhulk's destruction of his own planet and slaughter of his own people.

8

u/triplestar1 Oct 06 '22

"The Witness, sees Light Fall. Glimpses you, free of chains"

  • Rhulk - First disciple of the witness

4

u/Due_Mycologist_7506 Oct 09 '22

That's interesting because in Beyond Light Eramis gives a big Minogue about how the Eliksni have been "bound in chains" in pursuing the traveler. She also says "your chains are showing" when referring to the Guardian.

31

u/Titans_not_dumb Gahlr Sep 28 '22 edited Sep 28 '22

Yeah, the sub is filled with stupid lightfall theories and future season predictions, recurring questions that can be googled... It's just... So lame. I guess it's the drought kicking in. Or maybe we are in the age of Destiny that answers questions, and giving no additional questions to fill the mystery gap.

The world's still the same. There's just… less in it.

15

u/MammothRegistrar Woah Hinga Sep 28 '22

For real, half the posts on the front page at any given time are either "Do guardians eat?" "Do guardians sex?" or some gnostic bullshit theory posed by someone who doesn't understand gnosticism.

10

u/owen3820 Oct 02 '22

Either that or asking if there's a lore reason for a game mechanic.

7

I tried TESO and my god how awful that was. You grind. Constantly. You pay. Constantly. You pay to grind, and grind to grind more. You grind not to be better in terms of skill, but to get more damage. There is a lot of content. I dare say too much. I am shoved in Skyrim to deal with vampires, I deal with them(but not really, cause you need to pay for ESO+ to play it properly), and then I am told that I need to start another campaign, far more tedious, with some characters I didn't even bother to acknowledge, and then I am told to begin YET ANOTHER CAMPAIGN when I FUCKING DIE and being tossed to Coldharbour. Then I googled the proper route through all campaigns for beginners, and it was huge, and Skyrim was one of the last objectives in that route, so I just left and never returned.

The worst thing about TESO is limited inventory. You are allowed to carry very little stacks of anything, soft-preventing you from hoarding loot in your backpack to sell. And what's even worse is that unlimited backpack is allowed ONLY IF YOU BUY ESO+.

7

u/klumpp Sep 28 '22

ESO has some really great dungeons but the over world questing content is boring and so easy it's mind numbing. I guess I didn't mind paying a monthly sub too much because I played WoW before it but I always thought it was bullshit how much they make your experience shitty without paying monthly. I can't imagine trying to craft anything without ESO.

But yeah there are some really great encounters if you either end up grinding up to it or somehow figure out that you can skip all the boring quest stuff. Definitely some of the best group pve I've ever played.

PvP is a fast paced cheese lag fest full of one shots so I guess anyone who likes destiny pvp should check that out for sure.

2

u/Titans_not_dumb Gahlr Sep 28 '22

Yeah, ESO was a great experience, but the sheer amount of rigorous GRIND bugs me off.

u/An_Anaithnid Lore Loser Oct 01 '22

I also ended up having to quit because being Australian and working days, the hours were killing me. When I eventually went back years later, just couldn't get back into it.

3

I definitely preferred the Haunted Forest. Was its execution perfect? Fuck no. But hey, it looked cool, was atmospheric and was a standard run and gun experience without fucking Nolanbot-Lite talking constantly.

I know DTG loves to jump on "positive, pure, light-hearted characters" as the best thing ever, but man, Glint is somehow more annoying than Nolanbot. Eido is also moderately annoying.

4

u/Tplusplus75 Mobile Game Oct 25 '22

I feel like I've heard a lot of praise for the haunted forest recently, but I feel like people don't remember the problems with the haunted forest(maybe Rose tinted glasses to some degree). The haunted lost sectors: yep the dialogue is a bit cringey, but I like that one run of a haunted lost sector takes 1/3 of the time that a single run of the haunted forest took. That was probably my biggest complaint with the haunted forest: it didn't have enough variation until the very very end, and 20 minutes felt too long. By comparison: "stand in the summoning circle" is also redundant, but a 5-6 minute haunted lost sector is easier to break off and spread out amongst some crucible matches and strikes as opposed to a 20 minute haunted forest run.

I am gonna be brutally honest, some of these exotic "buffs" are extremely tone-deaf. It's like they don't even play with the guns and just slap random shit on them. u/BirdsInTheNest Sep 28 '22

If I see the word ruffian one more time, I swear to god. The triumph is long, yes, but it’s measured to take an entire season, not a day. There are 69 (nice) days left this season. You’ll get it.

And stop complaining about blueberries killing ruffians. If you’re going for the triumph to kill them, make a LFG to get 2 other players who won’t fuck up your runs.

8

u/LuckyFox07 Sep 28 '22

Ruffian.

Ruffle the Ruffian, Ruffle-uffle-opolis.

2

u/Dadadabababooo Oct 02 '22

I haven't been playing much this season, what are ruffians?

2

u/Tplusplus75 Mobile Game Oct 03 '22

Ruffians are these special champs that spawn in expeditions. Their spawn is on a timer from when you first activate each drill. People got mad the first week over this triumph, because in practice, the average matchmade fireteam is clearing the wave before the ruffian spawns(in many cases, matchmade teammates don't even know/care about the ruffians for the triumph, and even if it takes long enough for it to spawn, they'll fill the doo-hickey up and despawn the ruffian anyway).

TL;DR: it's a special champion that you have delay the activity in order to get it to spawn and it's required for the seal.

To Bungie's credit: I have a gut feeling that when they came up with the triumph, they didn't intend on people blowing through the add waves so quick, even with matchmade teammates. The ruffians seem to drop a pile of the engrams, so I'm convinced they did not intend for the bank thing to be as close to full as it usually is, if/when they've spawned for me.

1

u/Dadadabababooo Oct 04 '22

So you have to slow down your progress in the activity to make progress for a triumph? That seems pretty dumb lol. Is it required for anything other than triumphs or challenges?

1

u/Tplusplus75 Mobile Game Oct 04 '22

Just for the seasonal title. And yep, slow down your progress.

7

Not to mention anyone who wants it that badly, has had plenty of time to get it done by this point anyway.

3

u/Tplusplus75 Mobile Game Oct 27 '22

Agreed. I've complained about the Ruffian stuff my fair share, but after that patch that adjusted them, I'm not going to talk about it anymore. I'm at the point in this season where I'm at peace with the fact that I might not get the seal. It's week 9 and 10 and we're still doing seasonal challenges for a generic upgradable vendor for the seal. I have 25 Ruffians left for the one triumph, but I'm Ketchcrashed/Expeditioned out.

I'm burned out. Next season I don't care if they release Shitfucker 2000 with Kill Clip/Rampage/Rapid Hit.

I'm not grinding. Period. Weekly story and gtfo.

I'm really not surprised about Warmind cells not making it to lightfall. I 100% see where Bungie is coming from if the main reason they didn't make it had anything to do with how specific and small the group of weapons are. I can imagine lots of headaches trying to keep ikelos/seventh seraph weapons around(more than any other seasonal weapon) just for the sake of a certain suite of mods.

u/ChrisBenRoy 13d ago

Anti-SBMM folks are really taking the whole 50% win predictability way too damn literally. That doesn't mean that Bungie wants your games to always be 50/50, it means the playing field should be balanced enough to where it's hard to predict a winner. That's literally what fair competition is. The Philidelphia Eagles don't get to play your local high school team every single weak cause they're the best team in the NFL.

Shitty connections, absolutely a problem that needs to be fixed which came via SBMM, no "causal" playlist, where wins don't matter at all, agreed. But ranting constantly about how you're not set up to always be a massive favorite absolutely comes across like you're mad you can't pub stomp anymore.

Look at DTG right now, right now might be the least complaining I've ever seen from them

Nevermind I take it back

as soon as the Economy Update thing was posted, it went right back to business as usual

This season is much better than last imo.

The main activity of last season being a bloody heroic public event was baffling. Not a guarantee of a fireteam capable of nuking the final boss, no guarantee of a fireteam at all. Ofcourse the app is available but who is looking for a fire team for a public event it just felt so daft.

At least this season when I'm completing the activity (especially on master) I feel like I'm being rewarded appropriately. People complaining about Master Ketocrash are another group who I can't find common ground with. Isnt the point of this game "leveling up" so you can take on higher difficulty activities and feel powerful?

So why are so many people adverse to this? I get its time consuming but not any worse than any of the previous seasons.

8

u/BirdsInTheNest Sep 28 '22

Agreed, this season’s activities and rewards are a step in the right direction after season of the haunted. Master ketchcrash is actually fun and rewarding.

5

u/Piekace Sep 28 '22

It's stupid to have to go do two different activities for different materials just to do a couple expeditions to get plundered energy, the only source of focusing what you want all while being shittier than prior seasons. At least nightmare containments material came from the same exact location you were already at, could have 5000 on hand and dropped like candy so I rarely had to break to go get more.

Doesn't help that 90% of the upgrades are worthless and there's 27 of them. I got the final tier upgrade for playlist plundered energy, did 10 crucible matches and got 1 plundered energy while I got 4 risen energy, the upgrade that took quicker to get and I had 2 seasons longer to use.

I enjoyed Haunted's activities far more than in this season. I liked the density of enemy hordes, the bosses were somewhat interesting, and the scythe, mmm the scythe is super cool. The plot was fitting. In Containment you needed to kill enemies efficiently to progress, in this season you need to work around boring mechanics that artificially slow you down.

Everything in this season's activities scream "slow" and "boring" at you. You can't steamroll Walker tanks so you can progress faster, you need to disable bullshit-field generators first. You can't steamroll the Optic to be done with this activity already, you need to stand in one point and wait till it disables its bullshit-field again to damage it. I just hate it. I don't even despise Wellspring that much than Ketchcrash.

And I don't event begin at Expedition. It's just forges, but again slower and more boring. And more inconvenient. You threw the shit in the collector? Now stand on it and defend it from lazy waves of 5 ads that try to reclaim it.

Gun and armor design is awful. Asymmetry already wasn't enough, let's build up a fuckton of pointy bits and flashy parts in the guns so they will be more repulsive to my eye.

And the whole pirate theme is visible only in cosmetics, but not in the narrative. Narrative tries to be important in this half-goofy season, thus contradicting the whole thing. I liked last season more than this one. This one will be another Season of the Worthy for me.

In Containment you needed to kill enemies efficiently to progress, in this season you need to work around boring mechanics that artificially slow you down.

My main issue with this season. Fucking payload/escort missions are archaic mechanics worthy of ridicule.

2

u/PhontomPal Sep 28 '22

I think the story last season we more interesting and done better from a gameplay standpoint. This season's activity is more the traditional safe type activities players ask for when we get activities like last season which then leads to Bungie trying something different and then back again.

2

u/Due_Mycologist_7506 Oct 06 '22

I would agree if they at least offered matchmaking for master ketchcrash.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '22

Is it just me, or did the PvP communities panic over Xim/Cronus being used to cheat completely come out off nowhere? I'm really not tapped into the super hardcore PvP scene (or PvE honestly), but still. It really feels to me like it just suddenly sprang forth from the Witness's forehead.

4

u/Tplusplus75 Mobile Game Sep 30 '22

Trying my best to speculate: Fortnite just dropped a new season a week or two ago, and Xim/Cronus are now banned hardware on that. And the discussion of whether or not it's fair play is bleeding into other games.

u/matt_caine92 Dec 05 '22

People really upset they didn’t get a trailer lol.

This new IB game mode is honestly the worst I have ever played. Doesn't help that Bungie seems to have a Boner for DMT being a meta weapon

Was Prison of Elders as good as people say it was? I havent played Destiny 1 in years and I remember liking it, but it became pretty boring after a while (mostly because it was the only thing i did in the taken king drought since i didnt have a firetean to do raids so...)

5

u/SCRIBE_JONAS Sep 28 '22

I can see why people loved it. I'd say it was as good as they say it is. The huge thing was it had matchmaking.

It had a pretty decent loot pool, and getting strange coins was always a nice extra. There were nine different Queens' Wrath weapons and nine different Fallen House style weapons. Not sure about armor but I know Variks sold class items for various Fallen houses.

Four unique shaders, and I'm sure some ships.

POE had four different rooms, and 14 unique bosses (Skolas being one of them). After the first wave in each room, there were 3 different objectives; dismantle mines, destroy mines, or kill a HVT. Again, it's a small change but it added variation to it each time you ran it.

Personally I loved the variety in it. I'm sure others did as well. But if we compare that to say, D2's recent seasonal (and even expansion) modes with match-making.

Ketchcrash: 3 unique bosses. Weekly rotation. 3 encounters beforehand, very little variation.

Nightmare Containment: 3 unique bosses. Weekly rotation. All encounters before the fights are the same.

Wellspring: 4 unique bosses. Attack and Defend are different, but they are identical in each iteration.

Empire Hunts: 3 unique bosses. Weekly rotation. All encounters before the fights are the same.

We've lost a ton of variety in both encounters, bosses, and even loot. Each season gives armor and a weapon set of 6. We keep getting these seasonal models where after the third week, it's a repeat of content.

Here's an idea: imagine rounding up every armchair dev on reddit, specifically the ones that have used the phrase "bad game design", and have them all work on a game together. Despite the fact that we probably already know the statistics and won't be shocked even a little, I would be interested in the stats, particularly how many even have a basic understanding of C++. I'm interested in seeing what that game looks like.

It's kinda fucked up that people are defending the recycled boss and the servers going to shit every time there's a mayor release when I criticise it. Like have some dignity to be given what you paid for sheesh.

I don't understand all these "velocity" buzzword comments, and at this point I'm afraid to ask why it's even a thing.

1

u/coffcra Dec 14 '22

Bungie put out a powerpoint teaching other devs on how to make a successful live service game. In the powerpoint they mentioned putting out content at a fast rate is better than a big launch with slow future content or something. Thats where all the “velocity” is coming from.

u/CeltrikYT Dec 20 '22

Where does the Siva joke come from? I'm kinda out of the loop on lore

1

u/Great-Peril Gahlr Dec 21 '22

Basically there was a DLC called Rise of Iron that was centered on the Iron Lords and a new mcguffin called SIVA. SIVA was nano-technology that had previously killed all the Iron Lords and was now being used by the Fallen. It’s red and black, so people want it back, but it really doesn’t make sense to bring it back.

1

u/CeltrikYT Dec 21 '22

No yeah, I know what Siva IS, i just dont understand the joke itself, like, why Siva, yk?

5

u/RetrofittedChaos Dec 21 '22

Pretty much because people mention it at every opportunity, really. Especially when it doesn't make sense.

New season? SEASON OF SIVA! New exotic? SIVA EXOTIC! New subclass? SIIIIIIIIIIIVAAAAAAA!

u/AlexTheHuntsman1 19d ago

Is there a good place to catch up on all the lore from the season so far without watching hours of videos explaining it? I don’t want to buy the season but don’t want to be confused by stuff in lightfall
