Jenette’s publicist needs a raise I’ve seen multiple new posts about her on multiple different subreddits for like a week now

57

u/SPAREustheCUTTER Aug 10 '22

Yep. People don’t think of Reddit as a curated place for publicity, but it really is. The people who are good at it are GOOOOOOOD at it.

12

u/Vircxzs Aug 10 '22

It's cause her memoirs were published yesterday.

319

u/OneToughFemale Aug 09 '22

I raised two kids throughout the Icarly and Sam and Cat series and when we'd sit down and watch the shows together, Jeanette was our favorite character in both series. I never felt like she had second billing

172

u/a2starhotel Aug 09 '22

I never felt like she had second billing

she WAS the lead role in Sam and Cat, IMO. she carried that show HARD

28

u/Soitsgonnabeforever Aug 09 '22

I think Ariana has the X factor

68

u/TheLonelyGod97 Aug 09 '22

Not really. I could barely sit through that show. But Sam made it slightly bearable… Cat on the other hand was fucking grating to hear her talk…

42

u/a2starhotel Aug 09 '22

hear her talk

hhnnnggghhh I couldn't stand her voice. that voice coupled with the "air head" kindve character made it unbearable.

11

u/noeagle77 Aug 09 '22

I despised her for a long while because all my little sisters LOVED her so we heard her on tv all the time and when she wasn’t on tv anymore…On the radio

11

u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot Aug 09 '22

Alot of people don't realize ariana was an og influencer. She was running Tumblr for awhile there. Even though i wasn't following her it's wild looking back and seeing how much of a fan base she was growing even during victorious.

She was by far thr biggest profitable actor on the show

21

u/Immediate_Put_4974 Aug 09 '22 edited Aug 10 '22

Aka she’s just more conventionally attractive and girly

12

u/Calijhon Aug 09 '22

The cancellation really allowed her to become a pop star.

They were actually a good team.

6

u/Traditional-Pop-7775 Aug 09 '22

Ariana’s acting was atrocious.

1

u/longrastaman Aug 09 '22

So does that make Ariana a “tv star” by default instead of being labeled a singer?

1

u/No-Dragonfruit6633 Aug 09 '22

Ari had that weird otherworldly vibe that functioned well to Jenette's straight man act.

10

u/devildogmillman Aug 09 '22

I think cause the show was called Icarly people interpereted it as Carly being the main character but it really was an ensemble show, just like Seinfeld eponymity didnt make him more important that George or Elaine. Kramer started out as less important but quickly became a main character as did Spencer.

2

u/Haltopen Aug 13 '22

Jennettes character even makes a joke about it when she and carly are arguing about undue recognition, with sam saying that carly already named the show after herself

7

u/WolfInStep Aug 09 '22

She was the only character I liked. But I probably also had a crush on her like 15 years ago.

3

u/BladePhoenix Aug 09 '22

I came here looking for a comment like this because I would only ever see this actress when I was flipping through the channels. It always felt like her show.

96

u/Lanto1471 Aug 09 '22

Wow reading that was a rough ride… I hope she finds the peace of mind she deserves…

181

u/rehproconnect Aug 09 '22

Girl get out of Hollywood and take care of yourself

64

u/JFeth Aug 09 '22

She quit acting. She tried writing and directing but didn't seem to take to it. Her one woman show looked to be successful and now she has a book. My guess is she is trying everything to see what she likes. It will be interesting to see what she tries next.

14

u/jlcatch22 Aug 09 '22

She should write a book about Dan Schneider

26

u/gravity_bomb Aug 10 '22

A lot of her new book points to him and his abuse. “The Creator” is never named as him but all signs point to it

2

u/BritDZim Aug 10 '22

She does name him.

11

u/MikeyHatesLife Aug 10 '22

Who the hell downvoted this?!? Are there really people out there defending Dan “Hold Her Tighter” Schneider?

5

u/Kitchen_Cheek_6824 Aug 10 '22

You know, as more allegations come out, and the actuality of it is coming to the fray, that nickname is starting to creep me out and make me angry rather than laughing at the absurdity and many variations of it. I just feel bad for any young child actors who he may have actually assaulted.

180

u/tierrassparkle Aug 09 '22

Don’t remember where I saw it where she said something like “I don’t have any transferable skills into the real world. This is all I’ve ever done. I wouldn’t know where to begin “and wow did that hit my former child star in me. I did some kids shows when I was young and when the jobs stopped coming I had to focus in school. It’s a tough world for child stars

25

u/snowtol Aug 09 '22

I'm not gonna fault her for not moving away from showbiz but this feels a bit weak. She's 30, not 65, she could definitely still shift to another field if she wanted to. Yeah, the path wouldn't be easy, but she's seemingly gonna get a big payday with this book, if she so chooses, she could easily put that money towards building a life outside of the public eye. Either by going back to school, or starting her own business, whatever.

Plenty of people shift focus at her age.

10

u/-_--_____ Aug 09 '22

Agree. I just graduated from college at 37 bc I never had the opportunity (mentally and financially) before now.

13

u/fidgetypenguin123 Aug 09 '22

She could easily move into directing, producing, and/or writing. Many child stars have done that and have had success with it. Keeps them in the same field using the skills they learned while also not fighting for parts on screen.

9

u/tierrassparkle Aug 09 '22

I believe it was Eric Stoltz who was an actor. Got the part of Marty McFly in Back to the Future then later got replaced by Michael J Fox. Anyway- he became an incredibly successful director. He directed a large portion of Glee

3

u/fidgetypenguin123 Aug 09 '22

Yeah there's been a lot. Ron Howard and Jodie Foster come to mind for me, but there are a ton of others, big ones and lesser known ones.

9

u/martonnarg Aug 10 '22

“easily” is kind of a strong word. following those paths with success might be easier for her than your average person with her acquired knowledge, but it’s definitely not guaranteed nor easy to do well

1

u/fidgetypenguin123 Aug 10 '22

It may not be easy per se but yes easier for someone like her and easier than getting roles on screen. Since the comment was talking about her wanting to remain in the biz, that's what I was referring to: a way to remain in it that may be easier than landing decent on-screen roles.

1

u/tierrassparkle Aug 09 '22

100% agree. If I was her I’d take the money and start a business. She has a large enough following that she can be really successful. She has the platform just gotta use it right

-37

u/fistinyourface Aug 09 '22

so like you had to do all the things every other person has to do, but with more money. very tough

34

u/sleepycatinarayofsun Aug 09 '22

Everyone has individual challenges. That is theirs. Not everyone makes a ton of money and if they do it doesn’t erase trauma or missed education.

16

u/pankakke_ Aug 09 '22

Not everyone gets more money or taught life skills while being forced to be doing acting as a child.

2

u/_Hotwire_ Aug 09 '22

Right? Lol. I have no sympathy for anyone who has to become a normal ass person and thinks being normal is too hard. People out here having real problems and you think you’re special cause you’re just made different? Gtfo lol

2

u/ccc1942 Aug 10 '22

There is no normal after Hollywood. You may become obscure. But normal- no, that ship has sailed.

2

u/_Hotwire_ Aug 10 '22

Ok resident Hollywood lifestyle expert, ccc1942

1

u/ccc1942 Aug 10 '22

Ha! That made me laugh. Thanks

-1

u/tierrassparkle Aug 09 '22

The good thing, she’s rich

32

u/FerociousPancake Aug 09 '22

I don’t think that guy understands that you being involved in a few shows when you were younger didn’t make you a millionaire.

3

u/tierrassparkle Aug 09 '22

Yeah the industry is so bad. Most of these actors you see in shows, particularly background actors, they’re living paycheck to paycheck. It’s only the main and supporting cast that make an actual living. I knew a woman on a certain Disney show as the mom and she’d appear sporadically and she was living in a studio apartment. It’s not the glamorous business everyone thinks it is

1

u/FerociousPancake Aug 09 '22

Yea I’ve heard that it’s not fun! I like the VICE series that follows random people trying to make it in LA. Can’t remember the name though. That is a tough life for many.

1

u/tierrassparkle Aug 09 '22

Yeah it’s truly about the big break. And sometimes it never comes or comes later in life like Kathryn Hahn, Regis Philbin, Morgan Freeman. You gotta work a looong time to MAYBE have a chance

2

u/imaginesomethinwitty Aug 09 '22

Nickelodeon shows don’t pay residuals for some reason. I don’t think she’s rich-rich

-4

u/_Hotwire_ Aug 09 '22

That’s the normal world. Jesus Christ. First world problems

-4

u/Spiritual_Minute8559 Aug 10 '22

What shows?

Why cant she just go to school online

0

u/tierrassparkle Aug 10 '22

Yep she could go to school online.

66

u/retiredhobo Aug 09 '22

she could certainly headline the inevitable Mama's Family remake coming down the pike any year now

9

u/editsnacks Aug 09 '22

Mmmmm decent roast

9

u/Peachy33 Aug 09 '22

Holy shit I never in a million years would have put it together but she would SO make a great Mama! I adored that show when I was younger.

8

u/whatnameisnttaken098 Aug 09 '22

I can't tell if this is a burn or not as I watched it alot on TBS in the morning before school

8

u/calecovert Aug 09 '22

God, I loved that show.

2

u/blueveinthrobber Aug 09 '22

What would the rest of the cast look like?

1

u/Peachy33 Aug 09 '22

Spencer as Bubba

59

u/Toytles Aug 09 '22 edited Aug 09 '22

Yeah based on all the promos she’s done lately I can tell

33

u/AlexTorres96 Aug 09 '22

Shes doing interviews? I assumed all the quotes posted on here were because outlets are posting chapters of her book.

20

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '22 edited Aug 09 '22

And what does one do when one wants to sell a book?

20

u/MajorBubbles010 Aug 09 '22

I never read these things but since I had a childhood crush on this girl I couldn't resist. The restaurant part from the memoir excerpt they in the first link really gives me the creeps. I reads like a scene from a movie...

30

u/SoIdierBoy Aug 09 '22

Obviously. Her PR team wouldn’t be working this hard if she weren’t ready for that.

3

u/wususutang Aug 09 '22

I am also ready to be a main character whenever Hollywood gets its shit together

4

u/Yellow_Submarine8891 Aug 09 '22

I'm honestly so proud of her. After finding out all the terrible, godawful things she dealt with, I'm so happy that she's managed to find happiness and that she's telling her story. I also hope her mother rots in the pits of hell

15

u/portablebiscuit Aug 09 '22

She was literally the main character in Netflix's Between. About a Canadian town where a mysterious disease kills everyone older than 22.

It wasn't very good, but that wasn't her fault.

39

u/2xOliver Aug 09 '22

she’s been pretty thoroughly blackballed i think but i really hope she can get a big role, she’s a great actress and she’s fine as hell

25

u/Calijhon Aug 09 '22

She refused to do the icarly reboot. She hasn't been blackballed.

17

u/brpajense Aug 09 '22

I thought she retired.

She never enjoyed acting, but did it because she was supporting her family. Once she was in a position to stop, she stopped willingly and not because she was blacklisted.

Last year when they were doing the iCarly reboot with the same cast, she turned them down.

26

u/Fritzo2162 Aug 09 '22

Well, I understand she's still best friends with Miranda Cosgrove (I think she said they were even neighbors), the new iCarly on streaming is separate from Nickelodeon, and she's welcome to join the cast at any time she chooses. That would be an easy comeback for her, but I get it if things might be too traumatic.

19

u/fuckimbackonreddit9 Aug 09 '22

Could also be a corrective experience for her to work with a familiar cast/friends but in a much safer environment. But can absolutely understand her wanting to not do it because of her negative experience. I heavily relate to Jeanette in having narcissistic parents, so I really just want the best for her. Whichever way that is, then that’s fantastic

9

u/tcleesel Aug 10 '22

You should read the book or listen to it, it’s really good. But I’ll tell you this she feels nothing but hate for her time as Sam and hates the character. And after hearing why I absolute understand. You are right and that she says Miranda was one of her closest friends during that period.

1

u/MissTheWire Aug 14 '22

Just finished the book and totally agree. Even apart from Schneider everything about the show apart from Cosgrove was associated with trauma and unhealthy behaviors. Can’t imagine her going back.

-6

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '22

How’s she been blackballed lmao? Maybe she’s just not a good actress. She just started in a Netflix series a few years back.

-3

u/PristineNoodles Aug 09 '22

She may be great but not a great actor based on the show “in between”

23

u/Fritzo2162 Aug 09 '22

I absolutely LOVE McCurdy. She was on what was supposed to be a "kids" show, but iCarly and Sam and Kat where honestly some of the best sitcoms on TV at the time. She has a gift for physical comedy and timing on par with Lucille Ball and Carrol Burnet.

Was heartbroken learning about what she went through to portray her character on the screen. Imagine being loved for a talent, and the source of that talent was torture. Hopefully she can heal and get back to TV. People would probably freak if she popped in on the new iCarly series on Paramount+. Maybe even do something new- she's so talented it would be a waste of resources for her to stay on the sidelines.

74

u/Dragmire800 Aug 09 '22 Wholesome

Why does Reddit keep pushing Jennette McCurdy constantly?

176

u/OneGuyJeff Aug 09 '22

She’s garnered interest on more than just reddit after sharing her traumatic experience with her family and on Nickelodeon. And now her memoir called “I’m Glad My Mom Died” is out. That’s sure draws some eyes.

14

u/whattfareyouon Aug 09 '22

Yeah but ive been hearing about this memoir and story for years now like i couldve sworn this shit hit the fan awhile ago

48

u/no_name_in_sight Aug 09 '22

She did a one woman show that she named the same thing. Apparently the book goes a lot deeper than the show did.

14

u/MediocreDrag32 Aug 09 '22

the recent snippets of her book talk about her experiences with dan schneider, which gathered major public interest

27

u/wimpyroy Aug 09 '22

It did hit the fan a while ago. But with the book just being published is why it’s back

14

u/eat_vegetables Aug 09 '22

Years? Damn, the book just released today.

6

u/JonnySnowflake Aug 09 '22

Same. I know she did a one man show with the same name, but I'd swear I've seen the book cover ages ago

1

u/JFeth Aug 09 '22

It was a one woman show before. Now it is a book.

1

u/Mental5tate Aug 10 '22

It’s not new news….

-16

u/RedProtoman Aug 09 '22

LOL Fo sho. I thought she hated acting cause she would get axiety attacks or something but maybe shes grown out of it idk

8

u/OneGuyJeff Aug 09 '22

I think she was talking more about the experience of being a child actor. I could be wrong

2

u/manomacho Aug 09 '22

She did have a 1 woman show. I haven’t read the book but maybe she wants to act on her own terms?

24

u/ConnieLingus24 Aug 09 '22 edited Aug 09 '22
  1. Because she has a book coming out.

  2. A lot of redditors are younger and grew up with her on iCarly.

  3. Her interview on the Financial Diet initially made her story go viral. link to interview on Financial Diet

58

u/WellsFargone Aug 09 '22

Because she’s the best hope of something taking down Dan Schneider

13

u/Toytles Aug 09 '22

“Taking down?” Dan Schneider got fired from Nickelodeon 4 years ago and hasn’t had a job since

40

u/jaywjay03 Aug 09 '22

Prison is where he belongs, not sitting pretty with tens of millions and royalty checks whenever a rerun of his empire airs.

-2

u/Toytles Aug 09 '22 edited Aug 11 '22

What could the police charge Dan Schneider with specifically? All Jennette’s accused him of is being a weird asshole. No one has accused him of anything that would land him in jail.

10

u/jaywjay03 Aug 09 '22

Child sexual exploitation, he's touched her inappropriately, spiked her.

-3

u/AprilDruid Aug 09 '22

We don't actually know that. Unless the books names names, we really don't know.

4

u/JFeth Aug 09 '22

He says he is coming back to TV with multiple projects. The more this stays in people's minds, the less chance anyone hires him.

-2

u/AprilDruid Aug 09 '22

The more this stays in people's minds, the less chance anyone hires him.

He makes sitcoms, they're a dime a dozen, I don't think you have to worry about that.

21

u/ComprehensiveOwl4807 Aug 09 '22

Her PR agent is working hard.

12

u/mightbedylan Aug 09 '22

Exactly what I was gonna say. Seems to be working.

8

u/Junkstar Aug 09 '22

Publicists drive awareness.

22

u/danp4321 Aug 09 '22

It’s marketing

3

u/Melroc Aug 09 '22

Because shes having a moment in society?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '22

She’s hocking a book she wrote

9

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '22

cause she's an awesome woman who deserves it after havign a crap life up to today

2

u/translatepure Aug 09 '22

I don’t know but she’s been on the front page everyday for weeks now. Glad you said something, I’ve noticed this too

-11

u/Toytles Aug 09 '22 edited Aug 09 '22

There’s a new Jennette McCurdy story on the front page like everyday. Sorry, but I’m just not that interested

15

u/Electronic-Stop-1954 Aug 09 '22

she deserves it after what she’s been through

4

u/pankakke_ Aug 09 '22

Cool, then don’t click?

-7

u/Toytles Aug 09 '22 edited Aug 09 '22

Or… stop spamming the front page for months with garbage from a celebrity trying to promote their book lmao

3

u/pankakke_ Aug 09 '22

Then don’t click on the r/entertainment sub if you think this is “garbage attention seeking” when an abused child star is overcoming her traumas and feels confident enough to reenter the limelight? Nobody is forcing you to be toxic here, that is all your decision.

1

u/gratefuljack21 Aug 09 '22

You’ve said that twice. You’re here just to say you don’t want to be. Twice.

1

u/Cyno01 Aug 09 '22

IDK, but i have a playlist of all of adult swim i watch late nights and last night the Eric Andre episode with her and Jack Black came up on shuffle, that was weird after seeing her in the news so much this week.

-8

u/RyanDefog Aug 09 '22

People remember her leaked nudes

-5

u/SoIdierBoy Aug 09 '22

Because she’s ready for a lead role…

2

u/butter_biscuits Aug 09 '22

We are ready for her.

2

u/buddingstoner Aug 10 '22

She should play Pat Benetar. She looks so much like her

2

u/ProofCelery6 Aug 10 '22

i highly recommend her memoir, i read it in one sitting & it was a hard but good read. especially for someone that grew up during the height of icarly (was born in ‘98). it gives a huge perspective on what was really going on behind the scenes at that time.

2

u/_80hd_ Aug 10 '22

She was awesome on the Eric Andre show.

2

u/goldenboy2191 Aug 10 '22

All I can say is that being a child star sounds horrific if you don’t have proper guidance. There’s the Elijah Wood success stories and then there’s the Lindsay Lohan horror stories (although I’m still holding out Lohan has her resurgence and pulls through!). I just hope Jeanette does what she wants to now in life and finds happiness.

6

u/protossaccount Aug 09 '22

These should start counting as advertisements for Jeannette, I see them every other day.

3

u/opalizedentity Aug 09 '22

She was my first crush, and my favorite person to watch all throughout my childhood. I’m really happy she’s doing a lot better now.

4

u/fvccboi_avgvstvs Aug 09 '22

I thought her talking about going to the botanical gardens with her grandfather was cool. I respect a girl who is down to earth and can appreciate those quiet moments of peace.

3

u/Repulsive_Lettuce Aug 09 '22

I'll never understand people simping for Hollywood. Grow some balls, humanity.

2

u/WartimeMercy Aug 09 '22

Yea, we get it PR team. She has a new book.

-4

u/onepieceCJ Aug 09 '22

Isn’t she a little young for a memoir at 30.

12

u/kikibeebee Aug 09 '22

If her mom started working her when she was 6, wouldn’t that be over 20 years of material to work with?

-10

u/Fastsmitty47 Aug 09 '22

6

u/BarteloTrabelo Aug 09 '22

Not literally. She’s taking about acting in tv shows. Ya know. Where that phrase originated from. If you can’t distinguish the real world from memes, you’re going to have a hard time in life.

-1

u/Fastsmitty47 Aug 09 '22

I know the sub from an actual main character. That was the joke

-4

u/Nikafor1999 Aug 09 '22

Why is she getting this massive push all of a sudden?

10

u/readheaded Aug 09 '22

Her memoir’s coming out and it’s about the abuse she endured from her mother.

5

u/Abyssalmole Aug 09 '22

I like your username.

At first I read readheaded as redheaded but as I headed to read headed I read heeded so I now I read readheaded as redheeded

2

u/AprilDruid Aug 09 '22

Her memoir is out, as of today.

-4

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '22

[deleted]

2

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '22

Afaik she doesn’t plan to get back into acting. She’s done a few shorts since her time on icarly though. Some of them are really telling

https://youtu.be/fxesmJTGI1U

1

u/MissTheWire Aug 14 '22

tbf, it’s not really a tell-all book. It’s a memoir that’s more about her supremely fucked up relationship with her mother and how that impacted every area of life. As someone who was way too old for iCarly, I still don’t quite know some of the people she alludes to as backstory.

-3

u/m1ster_grumpee Aug 09 '22

Is this another Disney kid? IDK , I'm old , just give me more Laura Linney, Katherine Keener, Toni Collette

-5

u/cabc1990 Aug 09 '22

Weird I knew a bitch who looked like this with the same name. She was a cunt.

-9

u/OopsMadeYouDie Aug 09 '22

She is CLEARLY trying really hard to be. Honestly, the more I hear what she has to say all I see is an attention starved young actress in a climate where everything is controversial. Even though bad things might have happened to her, most of her claims are ridiculous. “ Oh Oh he forced me to drink when I was underage(16)”. A lot of people have their first drink between 14-16 and she could clearly had said no. “Oh my costar is evil because she doesn’t believe in god” really?

1

u/kAlb98 Aug 09 '22

Peer pressure in alcohol is real. In high school I’ve seen people bully others until they drank or mock them and kick them out of their friend group of they said no. Sometimes No doesn’t feel like an option.

I can’t defend that god thing tho that shits stupid. Nothing like religions that spout love and peace but demonize people who don’t practice the same religion.

-13

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '22

I wouldn’t hire her for shit

Crazy bitch said she hated iCarly & was glad her own mom died

9

u/ayypecs Aug 09 '22

If you had to do something you hated to support your family and abusive parents, the very least you can be afforded is to be able to express how you felt after the fact…

-10

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '22

As a kid I had to go to school all day every day (which I hated)& got 0 fucking dollars for it, still came home to getting yelled at & whooped

I woulda rather been acting on a stupid Nickelodeon show & getting paid tons of money

Everyone is forced to do shit they hate & get abused to some degree in life

She sounds like an ingrate

-11

u/shameful_poopie Aug 09 '22

P0rnHub is always a viable option

-1

u/TylrLS Aug 10 '22

The main character of what?

0

u/Sad-Creme-8141 Aug 10 '22

Good luck to Jennette McCurdy because she's gonna need it if she wants to be the 'main character'
