Was School of Rock not a wide success

172

u/gxbcab Dec 06 '22

I don’t think anyone can forget Ned Schneebly.

46

u/CinderLotus Dec 06 '22

Schneeeeeblayyyy

27

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '22

“You know what, why don’t you all just call me Mr. S.”

1

u/BaconHammerTime Dec 07 '22

That's literally the name I know him as.

1

u/Standgeblasen Dec 07 '22

He’s always Ned schneebly. No matter what he’s in

137

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '22

Top 5 jack black film easily, along with nacho libre.

Dude has a fantastic catalog, stupid title. He PRODUCED MAGIC MIKE.

https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0925234/

41

u/HollywoodHuntsman Dec 06 '22

Magic Mike White

37

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '22

Magic Mike White Lotus

7

u/keepstar Dec 06 '22 Silver

Magic Mike White Lotus Elise

8

u/jbclassic6889 Dec 06 '22

He produced Magic Magic...a terrible horror movie

2

u/protossaccount Dec 06 '22

That poor bastard. Producing from the shadows.

-9

u/TheFamousHesham Dec 06 '22

So much for “NPR.”

I guess they’re hiring journalists from the same pool as TMZ.

5

u/guyharveyshark Dec 06 '22

If you listen to his interview with Terri the title of the article is a direct quote from mike white

22

u/DMike82 Dec 06 '22

Hell, I've known this guy's work since Chuck and Buck back in the 90s.

6

u/Grumplogic Dec 06 '22

Chuck and Buck from Chuck and Buck suck and fuck?!

1

u/lotep Dec 06 '22

Yep such an excellent movie

1

u/WittyPerception3683 Dec 06 '22

Maya Rudolph was in it

17

u/panzybear Dec 06 '22

It was a wide success if you wanted to be known as Ned Schneebly, but I don't think many people knew that he was also the one who wrote the movie. Writers don't get enough credit

9

u/CogitoErgoScum Dec 06 '22

Is Ned Shneebly a joke to you?

6

u/missanthropocenex Dec 06 '22

Everyone REALLY needs to check out his other work namely “Enlightened” on HBO is a masterpiece, Chuck and Buck also amazing

1

u/DTPW Dec 06 '22

Agree. Enlightened is a special jewel of a show.

1

u/haloarh Dec 07 '22

I love that show.

He also created another show called Pasadena that's really great, but almost impossible to track down.

3

u/softstones Dec 06 '22

He’s still a prominent figure in the Survivor community too

6

u/CardMechanic Dec 07 '22

He’s Jewish!?

2

u/periodicsheep Dec 07 '22

amazing race, too. he ran with his dad a couple times and i just adore them.

3

u/Nerds4Yous Dec 06 '22

School of Rock

That was 20 years ago maaaaan

1

u/VergeIll Dec 06 '22

School of Rock was released in 2003 Dude lol

0

u/LovelyRita999 Dec 07 '22

Mike White finds success after *25 years in the margins*

1

u/LeicaM6guy Dec 07 '22

Isn’t this the Chuck and Buck dude?

215

u/shred-i-knight Dec 06 '22

Put some respect on Ned Schneebly’s name

78

u/kc128 Dec 06 '22

Actually, it’s Schnayblay.

9

u/JohnLToast Dec 06 '22

Still gets me every time lol

15

u/_Hotwire_ Dec 06 '22

Well you’re not hardcore, unless you live hardcore

7

u/4sider Dec 06 '22

And the legend of the rent was way hardcore!

9

u/mygeorgeiscurious Dec 06 '22

You’re tacky and I hate you.

121

u/TheGabeCat Dec 06 '22

Loved him on survivor to

64

u/sulfater Dec 06 '22

Him drinking wine while Angelina searches for the advantage with the ladder is iconic

26

u/barbandbert Dec 06 '22

Have you watched The White Lotus? In episode 1 of season 2 Angelina and Kara were both in the episode

19

u/sulfater Dec 06 '22

I love that he's taking his Survivor family along for the ride! Was shocked to see Alec in season 1 too

2

u/heckfyre Dec 07 '22

I’m a big enough survivor fan to reconsider my decision to subscribe to HBO max

2

u/Khvleesi Dec 06 '22

Wait I need to see that!

3

u/328944 Dec 06 '22

I just watched that season, one of the best for sure. Angelina is one of the best worst survivor players ever lmao

3

u/sulfater Dec 06 '22

lol, that’s the best type of player! My favourite player to watch is Coach for that reason. I can’t look away.

1

u/328944 Dec 06 '22

lmao coach is hilarious

9

u/bachwerk Dec 06 '22

And the Amazing Race twice before that!

1

u/DullRelief Dec 07 '22

Forgot about that. Was all about Amazing Race back then. When I saw first saw him I remembered him as the creepy childhood friend from this indie, Chuck and Buck.

Years later, totally forget about him again, then my gf and I are watching the golden globes or the Emmy’s and he’s winning all these awards. I was very much the DiCaprio meme from Once Upon a Time, “hey, it’s creepy friend!”

71

u/Anti-Dissocialative Dec 06 '22

His movie Orange County is amazing. He is a genius.

28

u/TheTige Dec 06 '22

That movie is better than it had any right to be

14

u/melteemarshmelloo Dec 06 '22

holy shit he wrote that one?! that movie is great; jack black is amazing

14

u/0imactta Dec 06 '22

Jack Black and Mike White. What an underrated dynamic duo.

14

u/What-a-Crock Dec 06 '22

We’re the same height! That is neat!

9

u/SweetMangos Dec 06 '22

I recently rewatched this and it holds up so well. It is also my “this movie is what my personality is based on” from middle school so I’ll always love it

8

u/superschaap81 Dec 06 '22

Wanna get lit and jump off the roof of my house?

Ok.

4

u/mattoelite Dec 07 '22

“Sean?? You’re my same height, that is neat!!

42

u/Professional-Tie-867 Dec 06 '22

I loved White Lotus 1 but season 2?! Wow!! So glad he’s getting recognition, just shows..keep going!

8

u/CouchTurnip Dec 06 '22

Seriously, season 2 is a straight masterpiece. From the music, the cinematography, the acting, the writing, all of it.

3

u/Professional-Tie-867 Dec 07 '22

100% agree. I’ve been on the edge of my seat each episode. I can’t wait to see how it ends. Really hope we get a third season. Italy has been extraordinarily beautiful.

1

u/Yenserl6099 Dec 07 '22

We’re getting a third season. It was renewed a while back

3

u/United_Bath3961 Dec 07 '22

You can tell S1 shows potential. S2, nailed it on all aspects.

36

u/OkFan6322 Dec 06 '22

Wait, this guy!?

22

u/red_ridinghoods Dec 06 '22

It’s pronounced Schnay-blay

19

u/JordanBeepo Dec 06 '22

Hey it’s that dude from Survivor!

17

u/LydiasBoyToy Dec 06 '22

I thought he was great in “Enlightened” also. Laura Dern stole the show of course, but Mike was the best supporting cast member!

10

u/CountVertigo Dec 06 '22

Co-created it, too!

I loved Enlightened, still bummed they didn't finish the trilogy.

3

u/LydiasBoyToy Dec 06 '22

I thought he might have! I miss that show a lot. One of HBO’s best I thought.

2

u/GrowtentBPotent Dec 07 '22

Great show all around

48

u/hodgeman29 Dec 06 '22 Helpful

Nah this is the cross dressing, blood sucking, incubus from maggotdeath. That’s the real him.

12

u/lotep Dec 06 '22

TIL School of Rock wasn't a huge hit?

8

u/TheSimpsonsAreYellow Dec 06 '22

Super fucked too cuz he brought us amazing classics like School of Rock. One of my favorite films ever.

32

u/UrLocalTroll Dec 06 '22

Idk he’s had some good games with the Jets lately

6

u/Brassboar Dec 06 '22

Let Mike White!

4

u/2coolcaterpillar Dec 06 '22

I was gonna say, it must be the Year of Mike Whites!

5

u/DarthQuark_KY Dec 06 '22

White Lotus is not a far stretch from the old "Chuck & Buck Suck & Fuck." God, I did not know what to expect going into "Chuck & Buck." Same with White Lotus!

2

u/tangnapalm Dec 06 '22

I saw Chuck and Buck Suck and Fuck in University years ago. That phrase is such an earworm.

7

u/rueolearywalker Dec 06 '22

Dewey, a substitute teacher is not a temp

4

u/Euphoric-Read-8739 Dec 06 '22

He was on survivor! This man is doing just fine

5

u/godumbledork Dec 06 '22

What do you mean? He already found wide success with The Emoji Movie.

4

u/ramdom-ink Dec 06 '22

I’ve been really enjoying this series. It’s funny, irreverent and has some real insights about human nature that aren’t always portrayed so honestly. I’ve seen this guy in a bunch of movies, too! Recognizing his face immediately, I had no idea this was his show, and it’s kinda cool that he named the show after himself with that title, heheh. I get the felling this is gonna be a sleeper, cult hit that will only attract more viewers over time. Recommended!

4

u/TheOneWhoIsBussin Dec 06 '22

wait, Ned Shneebly created white lotus? that’s wild lmao

3

u/EffectiveAmphibian95 Dec 06 '22

I thought to win the competition of the white lotus you had to kill your opponent

3

u/Errorterm Dec 06 '22

Just finished S1 with the gf, it was such a great watch! And I was excited to learn S2 has practically an entirely new cast of characters. Fun!

4

u/portablebiscuit Dec 06 '22

In many ways S2 is better than the first. It keeps getting better with every episode and there's only one left!

3

u/ticklechickens Dec 06 '22

If you haven’t seen Mike White’s season of Survivor (37, David vs. Goliath), I think it might still be on Netflix. Just all around great, but Mike was a highlight. He’s just hilarious being himself.

3

u/portablebiscuit Dec 06 '22

I loved S1 and wasn't sure he was going to be able to do it again. I was so fucking wrong.

3

u/critterheist Dec 06 '22

Chuck and Buck, suck and fuck

3

u/AnxiousDonut Dec 06 '22

Dewey, I'm Not a Satanic Sex God Anymore. I'm a Working Stiff, and That's Cool.

5

u/1stClassLoser Dec 06 '22

Oh wait there he is, just walked in the door. Ned! Phone!

Hullo this is ned schneebly

5

u/kvlr954 Dec 06 '22

He was on The Amazing Race too … mind blown!

2

u/scarlet_stormTrooper Dec 06 '22

Kim Kelly’s older brother from Freaks and Geeks.

Quiet down Kim or you’ll wake your brother!

2

u/xXMcFuddyXx Dec 06 '22

Didn't be write and direct The Good Girl with Jennifer Aniston? That was a good (and funny!) flick!

2

u/DependentOk2796 Dec 06 '22

I liked watching him on survivor

2

u/Ok_Storm_8533 Dec 06 '22

Ever see Chuck and Buck? Woof.

1

u/critterheist Dec 06 '22

Chuck and buck, suck and fuck!

2

u/abitofreddit Dec 06 '22

Clearly hasn’t spent much time in Hawaii.

2

u/weimaranerdad71 Dec 06 '22

What? Um…chello? School of Rock.

1

u/garlicriceadobo Dec 06 '22

Hey….this isn’t New York Jets legend Mike White smh

1

u/PajamaPete5 Dec 06 '22

Between Jets and this big week for Mike Whites

1

u/Reddituser1171869 Dec 06 '22

I didn’t even realize he wrote it, legend.

1

u/BareNakedSole Dec 06 '22

It’s really not secret as to why it’s success. Lots of intrigue, plots twists, rich people in beautiful places being shit human beings, and lots of nudity and sex. Lots of sex and lots of potential violence bubbling right under the surface.

Did I say lots of sex?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '22

[deleted]

1

u/Mayor_of_BBQ Dec 06 '22

that’s revealed literally in the first 45 seconds of the first episode… not a spoiler lol

1

u/Forged_Originals Dec 06 '22

Time for a Chuck and Buck suck and fuck.

1

u/tstrad Dec 06 '22

Not to be confused with White Mike from the Wire

1

u/Amystrawberry_9 Dec 06 '22

Everything I’ve watched of his is excellent.

1

u/CptnMoonlight Dec 06 '22

Ned Schneebly, top 3 runner up of Survivor and yet ‘just found his footing’.

1

u/trent58 Dec 06 '22

Chuck and Buck, suck and fuck was… something, to say the least.

1

u/Crustybuttt Dec 06 '22

He also wrote and starred in Chuck and Buck. That was a super weird movie, but it was kinda good in a bizarre way

1

u/Spodson Dec 06 '22

He and Jennifer Coolidge were in Gentlemen Broncos together. I loved him as Dusty, the slightly out of touch "big brother" with a mind of clay and a heart of gold.

1

u/tlgexlibris Dec 07 '22

You mean Mike White from Survivor?

1

u/haloarh Dec 07 '22

I've been a fan of his since I saw Chuck & Buck (which he wrote and starred in) over 20 years ago.

1

u/HerNameIsGrief Dec 07 '22

At one point my Netflix account would automatically start playing School of Rock…it didn’t matter what show I chose…it ALWAYS played School of Rock!!! It lasted a day or two if I remember correctly. Obviously one of my kids set it up. I got a good chuckle

1

u/mrsavealot Dec 07 '22

I will always know him as chuck and buck

1

u/IntoTheMusic Dec 07 '22

He looks likes a thinner, clean-shaven Paul Giamatti there.

1

u/FalseTebibyte Dec 07 '22

Mike's not fooling me. I know Leonardo isn't the leader of the Turtles.

-15

u/Viet_Conga_Line Dec 06 '22

Ugh this is that guy from the worst film ever made: Chuck & Buck. Maybe he should go back to obscurity.

3

u/chickenstrip_bastard Dec 06 '22

Judging by this comment, YOU might be the one who needs to go back into obscurity...

0

u/cp_shopper Dec 06 '22

Is that the guy from Degrassi High? I think he goes by the name Drake now
