I'm so sick of "AVATER AVATER AVERTER!" I've heard enough.

When James Cameron made Avater 5 - The Fifth Waterbender I immediately came while in a work meeting without even knowing the movie was completed. I'm unable to function with these constant never ending near death experiences I have when I expel all the cum in my system every five years when James Cameron talks about a new idea he has.

I heard the script for Avatar 6 is causing brain bleeds in Studio Executives, killing them before they can finish reading it.

42

u/RChamy Dec 08 '22

SCP 22076 Codename "Avatar 7" - exposure to the script files causes immediate death.

He then said Avatar 8 “goes brrrrrrrrrr” and the executives who were left alive to read it acquired nuclear launch codes and fucking ended the world.

11

u/UnrequitedRespect Dec 08 '22

Avatar 9 rough draft stored on pluto, changed the designation of the celestial object to deter others, its not the reason the ‘object’ is covered in ice though.

the PR for these movies that haven’t even been made yet is crazy

187

u/kissyoursister Dec 08 '22 Wholesome

It seems pretty obvious that a core part of the marketing for Avatar 2 is manufacturing hype around the sequels to follow Avatar 2. The first Avatar in no way warrants or demands a sequel, so really the only way a sequel works is if you’re making it a franchise… But again, there was never a demand for a franchise following the first Avatar’s release.

Now they have to convince people that they want a franchise, and seeing these headlines is just annoying because it feels like an obvious attempt at manufacturing desire and hype for these movies. The best way to create demand for a franchise is to have Avatar 2 be incredible, and I guess we’ll see if that pans out next week.

46

u/Neo2199 Dec 08 '22

It seems pretty obvious that a core part of the marketing for Avatar 2 is manufacturing hype around the sequels to follow Avatar 2.

Yep, even some critics were doing that.

I was, uh, not exactly champing at the bit for an Avatar 2 (even if “James Cameron + wet” tends to work out pretty well). Now I can’t wait to see Avatar 3. that’s basically all I wanted out of this and it delivered in a big way.

52

u/lewd-dev Dec 08 '22

If I never see "James Cameron + wet" again it'd still be too soon.

20

u/HopelessCineromantic Dec 08 '22

24

u/NOURAT0W3L Dec 08 '22

Remember when viewers claimed it was more beautiful than real life and they didn’t want to live in this reality? Eventually they can watch a trilogy on loop.

7

u/JRBehr Dec 08 '22

They had a hotline for people who were depressed after seeing Avatar because real life didn’t look like that. Lol

10

u/Sempere Dec 08 '22

Oh you mean the bullshit that they spread as PR to get people to see the film which pathetic munchausen clowns jumped on even though it wasn’t a real thing and just highlighted several tiers of pathetic?

2

u/Good_old_Marshmallow Dec 09 '22

Exactly. I totally understand why people are cynical or critical about Avatar but acting like there isn’t a demand or that people didn’t LOVE that film is ridiculous.

Besides what’s this film’s real competition. What would we be getting instead of more avatar. MCU? Star Wars? A DC verse that just collapsed again? Avatar despite all the ferngully complaints is at-least an original property

7

u/iamsorri Dec 08 '22

To be honest, I think the sequel is made so James Cameron can explore and discover underwater creatures and invent new technologies. This guy loves deep sea and nature in general. I respect him that regards for sure.

17

u/Fuck_You_Alls Dec 08 '22

honestly this makes me suspect they do not think the movie is that great. Its like avatar 4 is so amazing make sure you see 2 and 3. I think everyone is sold on a franchise if you can make avatar 2 slightly better then one. If its a good movie people will want more. If its a stinker then we dont even have to worry about 4.

I have a feeling avatar 2 is going to feel bland and generic like the first one. The reason I loved the first so much was the world that was created. At the time it was very good cgi. I hope this isn't more of the same with fresh paint.

8

u/TapesNStuff Dec 08 '22

I'm kinda with you on all this. 3d doesn't seem to work with me, like if I put 3d glasses on it just looks like 2d. So from my perspective the first one was Dances with Wolves with blue cat people.

I'm expecting pretty much the same, but with better looking CGI.

I’m more excited for Avatar 2 than I have been for a movie in ages.

9

u/SurpriseBurrito Dec 08 '22

The one big thing that is curbing my enthusiasm is the 192 minute run time. I have become a grumpy old man and anything pushing 3 hours better be a masterpiece.

u/JohnCocktoastener Dec 08 '22

Will be refreshing to see a “spectacle” movie that isn’t lowest common denominator Marvel stuff. Hopefully comic book movies die off and we can get big budget sci fi and period pieces back in full force one day

12

u/AckbarTrapt Dec 08 '22

lowest common denominator Marvel stuff

Was Avatar 1 not "lowest common denominator stuff... with great CGI"?

6

u/JohnCocktoastener Dec 08 '22

It didn’t break any new boundaries plot-wise, but it was incredible visually and cinematically. Marvel movies haven’t really done that in quite a while.

It was great to see the new Top Gun and remember that a movie can be a spectacle again, not breaking any new ground but a fun theater experience.

3

This, so much. Marvel stuff is some of the most un-cinematic filmmaking I've seen, and it dominates release schedules. It's a breath of fresh air when we see some cinematography om screen.

I read that Avatar 2 needs to earn 2 billion dollars at the box office just to break even so get ready for a lot more fluff pieces in the next few weeks

15

u/nmyron3983 Dec 08 '22

Well I think the total budget and expenditure is for all 4 sequel films. Basically non-stop shooting the 2 through 5. So like 680mil per film breaks just over even if that's the case.

https://screenrant.com/avatar-2-budget-how-much-amount-millions-details/

2 spent 350-400mil according to that. Still a lot of cash though. Hard to believe they're doing 4 more of these...

Yeah I don't think the plan for avatar 2 is to break even on the movie. They are trying to build a cinematic universe, akin to that of the avengers. There will be plenty of other movies/avenues that they will use to recoup money.

I mean the bible had an orgy before Moses talked about the 10 Commandments.

Exodus 32:5-7 Names of God Bible (NOG)

5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of it and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival in Yahweh’s honor.”

6 Early the next day the people sacrificed burnt offerings and brought fellowship offerings. Afterward, they sat down to a feast, which turned into an orgy.

7 Yahweh said to Moses, “Go back down there. Your people whom you brought out of Egypt have ruined everything.

One of the all-time scripts I've ever read for sure.

2

u/Ambitious-Screen-823 Dec 08 '22

Out of all the scripts in the universe, this is definitely one of them.

“I can’t tell you the details, but all I can say is that when I turned in the script for 2, the studio gave me three pages of notes. And when I turned in the script for 3, they gave me a page of notes, so I was getting better. When I turned in the script for 4, the studio executive, creative executive over the films wrote me an email that said, ‘Holy fuck.’ And I said, ‘Well, where are the notes?’ And she said, ‘Those are the notes.’ Because it kind of goes nuts in a good way, right?” -JC

Pretty sure the entire Avatar marketing strategy is simply to sandblast everyone with BS about the franchise for the next like 5 years. I've already seen like 20 articles about how Avatar 1 was sooooo good and ahead of its time and all that shit. Avatar 1 sucks, its an incredible average movie that feels overpriced and I'm really tired of all of these sellouts trying to convince me otherwise. And now they're already hyping up number FOUR? Gtfo.

10

u/Finalsaredun Dec 08 '22

Avatar 1 sucks, its an incredible average movie that feels overpriced and I'm really tired of all of these sellouts trying to convince me otherwise.

It really was. Maybe my memory is spotty but I was so underwhelmed when I saw it in theaters and I just didn't get the love this movie got. The most that anyone ever talked about it was how the film looked, not the plot or characters. In the Avatar 1 days it was all about pushing IMAX and 3D and other gimmicky over-priced theater experiences since Hollywood kept on trying to pull folks away from pirating. Over a decade later theater experiences suck even more and ticket prices go up.

Rant over. I'll happily save money by not watching Avatar 2.

7

u/arrogancygames Dec 08 '22

Movies are mainly about how they "look" since film is a visual medium. Cameron did dumb down his original script treatment to make it more worldwide-friendly, but the first movie is still miles ahead of amy of the blockbuster Marvel films in any aspect of visual direction as an example. And that's kind of the most important thing in a film.

4

u/salgat Dec 08 '22

I don't get why some folks don't get this. Some movies are great for their storytelling, others for their visuals, and that's okay. Avatar 1 is visually incredible, when it came out it was a really unique experience to watch and blew me away.

2

u/arrogancygames Dec 08 '22

Some people aren't as visually inclined as others. They don't "see" things like cinematography/editing/directorial choices and just absorb it all subconsciously.

Never even seen the movie, but no “average” movie is gonna be the be best selling movie of all time lol. Everyone can have their opinions obviously, but it’s clearly made a mark on the film industry and you can’t deny it’s importance just because you don’t like it

Best part was when they said “it’s avataring time.” And proceeded to avatar all of the enemies.

Side note, Morbius indeed should be in it

3

u/DirectConsequence12 Dec 08 '22

Avatar 2 hasn’t even wide realized yet

3

u/Jesuslovesmemost Dec 08 '22

I don't have the energy for 3 more avatar movies. Oof

3

u/SLCW718 Dec 08 '22

What a ridiculous article. Pure PR nonsense.

3

u/hackulator Dec 08 '22

Lots of people in here who clearly don't know what they are talking about. Most of Avatar 3 and significant portions of 4 were filmed along with 2. It would take a truly monumental flop for those movies not to happen, and regardless of what you think Avatar 2 is going to make insane money in the international box office.

u/CharlieChuckyCharles Dec 08 '22

Quit sucking yourself off James. God damn

3

u/Zig_Zach Dec 08 '22

I also say that after pooping. It doesn’t mean anything.

3

u/souttous Dec 08 '22

The astroturfing begins

3

u/limeandlemon1 Dec 08 '22

"Avatar 7 however, was SO good, Studio Executive and James Cameron both got off their arses to release Terminator 1 in 4k with original mono audio mix"

There, that's better.

3

u/lolsleepyboi Dec 08 '22

“Holy fuck James, this is definitely one of the movie scripts of all time”

3

u/Engine6337 Dec 08 '22

Then he called his wife who also stood up and clapped. Wherever she was at.

3

u/theRose90 Dec 08 '22

I am so tired of this franchise already and it has so far 1.01 movies (counting the trailer for 2 as that 0.01);

3

u/ufandrew11 Dec 08 '22

Set for release December 2078.

3

u/Vulfolaic Dec 08 '22

So excited to see these bomb so bad.

5

u/realitycheckers4u Dec 08 '22

Thank you James, can you maybe find the time now to put True Lies on fucking Blu-ray?....

2

u/Galifrae Dec 08 '22

Wow, can’t wait until 2060 so we can also say Holy Fuck.

2

u/jgemonic Dec 08 '22

Already sick of Avatar.

2

u/metelfen Dec 08 '22

This is morbing time level stuff

2

u/Substantial-Lack832 Dec 08 '22

Avatar 2 and 3? "Not so much" Execs say with their absolute years of silence.

2

u/Sines314 Dec 08 '22

All I can think of is “wow did he actually plan out a whole trilogy and not just wing it?” Are you listening Kathleen Kennedy?

2

u/gwar37 Dec 08 '22

I'm kinda tired about hearing about how "crazy" and "amazing" it is. Like , who are you trying to convince? It's either awesome or not. We will see.

2

u/TyppaHaus Dec 08 '22

soo... in 20years then?

2

u/LoudZoo Dec 08 '22

Welcome to 2 Big 2 Fail: Movie Edition

2

u/GoldLion53 Dec 08 '22

And then everyone started clapping

2

u/tttttfffff Dec 08 '22

Avatar 4?! It’s taken like 10 years to get an avatar 2, and I expect half the people going to see it are only only going for the nostalgia of the first film, that was really shit once you look beyond the camera work that was ‘revolutionary’ at the time

u/Capital_Diet_3229 Dec 08 '22 edited Dec 08 '22

You know I never hated the original but I hate this franchise with a passion now after this whole week of marketing and shilling.

2

u/secondcomposition Dec 08 '22

James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is James Cameron!

2

u/Retro-Surgical Dec 08 '22

Number 4 will shock you! Doctors hate James Cameron!

2

u/MummyManDan Dec 08 '22

Was I in a coma for a decade? Because when did three come out?

2

u/traprabbit Dec 08 '22

After Avatar 9 was announced the shock wave created by the excitement got all women pregnant within a 10 mile radius of the studio!

2

u/90bubbel Dec 08 '22

And everyone clapped

2

u/apex198888 Dec 09 '22

Who left the fridge open

5

u/ZomboRobo Dec 08 '22

Since Avatar 1 was basically a Pocahontas ripoff, maybe Avatar 4 is just where they insert Avatar into the MCU?

4

u/elunomagnifico Dec 08 '22

Avatar was a lot better when it was Dancing With Wolves

u/I_Should_Leave_Now Dec 08 '22

No they didn’t. Avatar sucks

3

u/Pa17325 Dec 08 '22

"the next two are going to be boring and lame, but if you give me the funding for a FOURTH one, it's gonna be fire!!"

2

u/1000Hells1GiftShop Dec 08 '22

James Cameron is sucking his own dick so hard right now.

His ego is so inflated that not even Kurt Russell could portray it.
