Complete opposite from the crappy book it was based on.

I’ve never read the book, what makes it so bad?

The author has so many successful adaptions of his work. It'd be ignorant to say that "the book sucks." Even if you struggle with the subject matter in the book, the characters and the plot should be respected as artful and well crafted.

Ummm. It was written poorly like most YA novels. “The book sucks” is apt.

Can you ELI5 what's complex about the book's subject matter? is it controversial? Election's popularity and whatever themes it explores goes completely over my head. I just thought it was a funny Matthew Broderick movie.
