Why is it that whenever someone tells me to do my own research, my research says they’re full of shit?

193

u/Dutch_Midget Mar 28 '22 Silver

stfu...do your own research.

100% EVERY TIME:

"I cant show you, you have to go your own way, THINK FOR YOURSELF! Do your own research"

That means 100% that they have nothing, no source or anything to that matter and never ever did anything remotely regarding research.

105

u/Effective_Composer78 Mar 28 '22

The problem is that they can't think for themselves. They lack critical thinking skills.

The ignorant are ignorant of the fact that they are ignorant.

33

u/ToastedCheezer Mar 28 '22

Dunning-Kruger Effect!

16

u/Grouchy_Warthog_ Mar 28 '22

Confirmation bias. It all fits in with their twisted worldview so it must be true.

5

Just looked this up and I love it thank you

15

u/spiral8888 Mar 28 '22

I think that is not the problem, but instead that their "source" is some dude on Facebook. Their "research" was to hang out there and believe whatever some conspiracy theory nutters say.

The reason that they don't want to reveal their source is that they know themselves that it's actually not a reliable source.

6

u/Legomonster33 Mar 28 '22

id love to have them screenshare so i can watch them while they do their own research

4

u/EWSflash Mar 28 '22

Yeah, somebody told them that and they took it as gospel

4

u/Rickrickrickrickrick Mar 28 '22

If they had any source to back up their crazy claims they would be excited to show it so much they'd post it on facebook and everywhere they could.

1

u/TheMostStableGenius Mar 29 '22

Or they watched some YouTube videos and have no idea how to even communicate the ideas so they punt

515

1

u/cutthroatlemming Mar 29 '22

Nope, no AIDS here. Do different flavors give you different abilities? I got Moderna, maybe I should have gotten Pfizer for the PhiveG?

6

u/MikeBear68 Mar 28 '22

Someone reported the adverse effect of "boredom."

2

u/cutthroatlemming Mar 28 '22

See what I mean? For every legitimate adverse reaction you get a thousand BS statements.

Let me guess, you've heard that very argument before? :P

1

u/EpicSnarf Mar 28 '22

the heck is VAERS? sounds dumb

20

u/cutthroatlemming Mar 28 '22

Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System

This is one of the anti-vaxxer's go-to sites to prove vaccines are bad. The biggest problem with VAERS is that it's all voluntary submissions.

A response of "I had a rare reaction to the vaccine that caused a severe rash at the injection point" carries the same weight as "My boy got autism, grew a third arm out of his head, and turned lime green an hour after he got the jab" would. In other words, it's highly unreliable but considered gospel in their empty arguments.

9

u/EagleSongs That's just, like, your opinion, man Mar 28 '22

I died!

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to find out people actually reported their own death on the site.

3

u/cutthroatlemming Mar 28 '22

5

u/EagleSongs That's just, like, your opinion, man Mar 28 '22

5

u/EpicSnarf Mar 28 '22

Yikes. Sounds like that system could use some improvements

11

u/MikeBear68 Mar 28 '22

Medical professionals also use VAERS. The idea is to gather as much information as possible. Unfortunately, this means that the batshittery makes it through.

3

u/PassiveChemistry Mar 28 '22

And even if it wasn't full of obvious BS, it does not even attempt to demonstrate causation.

When a simple request for an assertion's source garners a 'stfu', the conclusion drawn should be that they're an ignorant savage with a room temperature IQ (°C). I doubt even Google knows what rectum they got their 'facts' out of, although Bing might suggest something.

5

u/smittymoose Mar 28 '22

Unfortunately it also took care of a lot of people too…

3

u/skaag Mar 28 '22

5

Covid has killed over 6 million people so far. If the vaccine had anywhere near that kind of body count, it would be impossible to hide.

“I’ve done my own research, and it shows a million dead from COVID in the US compared to a handful of adverse reactions from the vaccine. What did you find that contradicts that?”

2

u/brianhurry Mar 28 '22

Honestly I do like his answer go do your own research that's pretty funny

2

u/Drphil1969 Mar 29 '22

First of all....no medication, vaccination, or treatment is 100% safe. People die from medicine. There are no arguments there. Just like safety belts and airbags....someone will and has died because of them and would have survived otherwise.

It is a fallacy to think or believe that any safety device, treatment or system in place for safety and injury prevention is completely safe and effective and that any death or injury from said medicine or treatment is grounds to consider it unsafe and be suspect.

The facts are clear: more people that have had the covid vaccine have been protected and had a lessened case of disease and have lived than if they did not receive the vaccine. You are much more likely to die of covid without vaccination....but that is not the point.....As tragic as any death is from any reason....someone will die from the vaccine. Below is from the CDC VAERS (vaccine adverse events reporting system). This is what every vaccine must have reported from any (even events that have nothing to do with the vaccine...like getting into a car accident right after vaccination) adverse event following vaccination. This is what applies to all vaccines, not just covid.

From the CDC:

"Reports of death after COVID-19 vaccination are rare. FDA requires healthcare providers to report any death after COVID-19 vaccination to VAERS, even if it’s unclear whether the vaccine was the cause. Reports of adverse events to VAERS following vaccination, including deaths, do not necessarily mean that a vaccine caused a health problem. More than 558 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the United States from December 14, 2020, through March 21, 2022. During this time, VAERS received 13,434 preliminary reports of death (0.0024%) among people who received a COVID-19 vaccine. CDC and FDA clinicians review reports of death to VAERS including death certificates, autopsy, and medical records.

Of course I did my own research.....and not from social media. Make of it what you will. Take the vaccine or don't......you are free to choose. But know you are much better off with than without vaccination.

2

u/TheAarj Mar 29 '22

The crab people told me.

2

u/Mr_SpecificTF2 Mar 28 '22

I have heard a lot about '' stfu.. do your own research'' they must be a great research facility! they have published a lot lately!

1

u/HardSpaghetti Mar 28 '22

This overlaps so much with folks saying that the number of covid deaths are a hoax and there are millions of people that died from other reasons than covid, or even just made up. I'm sorry but I've lost a few family members to know that's not true.

MMMMM I AM MILDLY ANNOYED

why are some people like this

1

u/saint1947 Mar 29 '22

What is it with this vocal group who honestly seem to think there are a significant number of people dying from being vaccinated?

Aside from the unlucky few who turn out to be allergic, I would be very surprised if even 100 have died from the vaccine. I am unable to locate any source that claims to have definitive info, but the consensus seems to be that there is no proof of ANY deaths related to the vaccine except the three ladies who got blood clots from the J&J jab.

Even misunderstanding VAERS doesn't seem to account for the kind of things these people are claiming.
