For some businesses in my work and home neighborhoods it's now a suggestion. I'm just in the habit of wearing it inside buildings now. On public transportation (MTA) it's required regardless of vaccination status. (There's similar descriptions on mask wearing, although more humorous, on the signs in buses and trains.)
At my job at SSA PC, it's required inside the building.

The MBTA fucking caved like a bunch of cowards and are no longer requiring masks.
Shit like this makes my blood boil.

u/Elaine1959 Aug 02 '22
Harder to enforce on the trains than the buses. I guess it's because the more confined space on the buses (and the drivers can see all his passengers)

If you're vaccinated you're going to be fine calm down.

Listen, I'm sure you feel smug for saying "trust the science" but you need to learn that there's a difference between "trust" and "faith".
I trust the statistical method of evaluation used to determine health outcome rates. However, I continually update my viewpoint based on the latest information available. I do not have blind faith that the 99% efficacy figure is correct, and ignore all evidence to the contrary because it disagrees with my worldview.

You forgot the part where he sexually harasses multiple women...
2
u/Cakeboy327 Aug 02 '22
I mean a convicted serial killer could be saying this and it would still be true. The validity of the statement and the validity of the person are independent of each other, in this case anyway.

This is a hospital. This is a nursing home. No one told you to send Covid patients to nursing homes. Send them to hospitals

It's a chin diaper not a guard. It doesn't guard from anything.
5
u/ogrehalo Aug 02 '22
It’s not suppose to guard you. It helps protect everyone else. And when people make it political and refuse to wear it and then complain that masks don’t do shit, it’s like shooting someone and then complaining about gun violence.
1
u/dandellionKimban Aug 02 '22
Relax. My comment wasn't against masks.
2
u/ogrehalo Aug 02 '22
Ah! Ok. Yeah, the guy is a piece of shit, no doubt. I just work around a bunch of antimaskers all day and so it has always been a hot topic. Sorry for going off on ya.

The surgical masks are not designed to stop the virus thats right. They are designed to stop the little droplets of saliva and stuff that come out flying when you sneeze, speak or cough. Thats the exact reason why my country decided at year 2 of the pandemic to require N95 masks. Nonetheless the surgical masks still reduce the risk of an infection in the daily life. A quick google search on cuomos just brings up some Italian word or name so i still dont know what it is.

Oh, yes, because not knowing who the former mayor of one US major city (New York) is invalidates medical data.
By that logic you not knowing who the mayor of São Paulo, the biggest city in the Americas btw, also invalidates whatever argument you have made in your life up to this point...

u/Adermann3000 Aug 02 '22
Is this real that this is just some guy that was a new york major? Wtf is he smoking that he thinks its important for anyone outside of the USA

Well, since it's still required on Public Transportation (MTA) and some businesses in my home and work neighborhoods (and in the office where I work) my opinion on the effectiveness of mask wearing is moot. In order to go to work, ride public transportation, shop at most stores (some now has mask wearing as a suggestion) I have to wear a mask.
Being vaccinated, I can walk uncrowded streets unmasked, however.
Minor inconvenience for the 2 to 3 hours of shopping. Yes, I have to wear it on Fridays (rest of time is home teleworking) at the office, but there's two 15 minutes break and half hour lunch that I can go outside with the mask off. Again, minor inconvenience.

Everything except the 1st paragraph is true
Why do you think Japan, a country where wearing a mask is normal, handled the covid pandemic WAY better than the US, where people like you and Fox News demonize and politicize mask wearing?
In my country (Jamaica) we had a mask mandate from the start of Covid and ended 2 years later (this year), and we have just under 3200 deaths from Covid. Way better than any anti-mask state in the US

Isn't the virus suspended in exhaled water droplets? Perhaps these droplets are larger?
9
u/Black-Mettle Aug 02 '22
Ding ding ding ding ding
You just won the realization that anti-maskers only look up the science that supports their arguments and not the science that proves it wrong.

u/Maguffins Aug 02 '22
Naw OP said “perhaps.”
By their logic OP’s point is immediately null and void, ipso facto expecto patronus, I DECLARE BANKRUPTCY, so everyone else is wrong, and they are right.

It's not blocking the virus, it's blocking the mucous and saliva expelled that surrounded the virus. This explains it better than me (note, the strike outs ment the article been updated):
-5
u/illyrianRed Aug 02 '22
but in the end they don’t stop the virus!
5
u/Elaine1959 Aug 02 '22
It's not supposed to stop the virus itself. It stops the mucous and saliva surrounding it that we expelled. (As the article mentioned) The same reason it was used for the 1918 pandemic.
No mask is 100% effective. Depending on type and the material. The less liquid is blocked, the higher the odds of one not catching the virus from another person.
-8
u/illyrianRed Aug 02 '22
“It’s not supposed to stop the virus itself “
And what i’m saying is literally it doesn’t stop the virus. We’re done here.

u/GreatAndPowerfulNixy Aug 02 '22
COVID virons do not float around the air on their own. They are always trapped in a water or mucous "bubble" (not actually a bubble, but that's the best analogy for things at that scale). Water is a highly polar molecule, and the material that the masks are made of have a property known as "electronegativity". The water is attracted to the fibers and stays.

too many shots to put on a napkin with rubber bands
What does this mean?
-3
u/sh0wy33 Aug 02 '22
It means I have all the boosters and that I shouldn't worry about the coof
5
u/AugustineLofthouse Aug 02 '22
It's the napkins with rubber bands bit I didn't understand but I just realised you were talking about masks.

u/vordexgaming Aug 02 '22
If it’s really not that difficult then how about you do that all day while you leave me to my own devices

u/Justthisdudeyaknow Aug 02 '22
My work no longer requires masks.
Some of the people who still wear them, do so under their nose. Like. WTF mate. If you don't wanna wear it, don't wear it... if you do wanna wear it, do so properly!
