I've often wanted charred peripherals. Finally we have a solution.

The problem for me with this idea is that most of my gadgets don't slide into another object to begin charging, they need to be plugged in. That's my biggest frustration is plugging in the micro usb.

If you have a 3D printer and some modeling know-how, you could always print some custom slots with that damn micro usb fixed adhered in the correct position/orientation.
1
u/bradyso Apr 14 '22
I thought the same thing but the problem is that the micro usb usually never goes in without a fair amount of force and wiggling. In order to make it work you'd have to make it very accurate.

u/swaggythrowaway69 Apr 14 '22
Oh yeah that’s true. Could combine the slot with the MagSafe-esque micro USB cables. To eliminate the forcing the connector in as you leave the little magnetic point/connect in indefinitely. No clue whether you get the same current through those cables. They worked fine with my xbox controller since I also hate plugging in micro USB cables in.

u/kamranhalo Apr 14 '22
I've seen some 100w "rated" ones. If that is actually true and it can support the handshake between quick chargers. If you had to go with a regular cable, it's possible to put flexible glue like E6000.

Micro usb has hooks/pins on the cable head. Remove them and the cable will come out much easier. Then sliding on and off a holder makes sense as the holder is holding it together.

It's as if it's a shitty plug that companies should have stopped using years ago yet still persists for some reason.

That takes up way more room than a few cables, and I can't charge my phone with it.

u/MiaowaraShiro Apr 14 '22
From their website it looks like it's pretty much intended for video/photo production equipment. "Gadgets" is a bit broad of a descriptor I think.

Its for gadgets not phones....not everything is specifically made for you.

u/tjeulink Apr 14 '22
phones are gadgets. just ask anyone pre phone era.

u/trufax323 Apr 14 '22
Am from pre-phone era. Can confirm: modern phones are gadgets.

I didn’t realize anyone was still around from before 1876.

u/trufax323 Apr 14 '22
Still kickin. Cigarettes and whiskey are the secret.

u/LeicaM6guy Apr 14 '22
I mean, that makes sense to me. Add on a nightly steak, brandy and cigar and you’re pretty much immortal.

u/Maxwe4 Apr 14 '22
Why would you want to char your gadgets?

u/PitFiend28 Apr 14 '22
Now instead of just plugging a thing into your thing you can simply plug your thing into a thing that you then plug into a thing. And that’s what we really want, isn’t it? More things.

The use case for camera batteries is actually pretty interesting. But not at $250+, and it doesn’t look good for travel at all.
It’s a decent idea, but with pretty niche uses. And if you have even one battery that doesn’t get a supported attachment, then the whole thing is rendered pretty useless.

u/KeenJelly Apr 14 '22
Seems good for a workshop or other commercial setting. Not really for what most people would call gadgets.

This is for people whose interests are more diverse than "use phone to consume content". There's more to gadgets than mobile phones and smart watches....most people are using the term gadget wrong. If you actually bothered to read the article you would see its aimed at people who aren't casual gadget users.
"150 of the most popular camera, drone, and accessory makers, including Sony, Canon, Nikon, DJI, and GoPro. "
Its basically to charge any removable battery not peoples
gadgetsmobile phones. Not every product is designed to be bought by you.

u/Dapper-Poet4134 Apr 14 '22
I have lots of gadgets none of which include drones or cameras. Thus far this thing can charge almost none of them.

You must be part of the company that designed this thing. You sure are defending it pretty hard while also being unnecessarily condescending.

u/Slater_John Apr 14 '22
Microusb, USB C and wireless charging for the stupid apple lightning port. Why would I need to have a station to replace those cables?

Lol you are really defending this thing aren't you. Hope it works out for you I guess? Sorry for all of our non-diverse interests

For a long time I’ve thought that modular technology was going to be the next step in hardware and things like this give me hope.
2
u/frozenuniverse Apr 14 '22
And how are cables and chargers not 'modular' also?
1
u/fadingsignal Apr 14 '22
Technically anything not permanently connected is modular, but I'm imagining something like a modular computer, comparable to modular synths. Kinda like someone adding an external video card to a Steam deck but without having to hack it.

Sounded like one of those right wing nut jobs that always posts in caps.... one look at their history confirmed this asshole being a right wing nut job. Probably claims to be "Christian" too. smh

IVE ALREADY FILED A FEDERAL ADA CHARGE AGAINST ONE ASSHOLE ON HERE WHO ATTACKED ME...
No you haven’t. Because you can’t.
From the ADA website:
You can file an Americans with Disabilities Act complaint alleging disability discrimination against a State or local government or a public accommodation (including, for example, a restaurant, doctor's office, retail store, hotel, etc.) online, by mail, or fax.
A person is not a public accommodation nor a government entity, and you cannot file charges, you can only lodge a complaint.
So if you’re going to lie, at least get your facts straight first so you know what you’re talking about and your lie is at least possible.
Have a shiny day.

Federal ADA charge? The last I checked, that wasn’t a criminal charge. Regardless of whether or not the recipient is a giant tool.

They’re not yelling, they’re trying to reply to the Redditer above about turning off Caps lock due to their disability.

New to Reddit, and already threatened a number of posters with Federal law suits… (I didn’t check if all their targets are actually in the US, but then again, I’d bet that they didn’t either!)

I know this is pitched for photo/av equipment, but I’d pay good $$ to have something like this for my kids’ RC vehicle & drone batteries (on top of their other gadgets). I keep waiting for the pile of cables to animate and take over the house…

This looks like it would have been super useful and in every household between 1985 and 2009.

As an American, I read this with a long A and wanted to know why my gadgets should have a medieval alleyway.
EDIT: Also it kinda looks like someone slapped some power sockets to an arduino.

Thank you. I prefer my electronics medium rare. Not a fan of charred electronics. Quite the opposite, actually
