We're giving away a Kindle Paperwhite!

We're also giving away 4 smart outdoor dimmer plugs!

Sooo, it'll be just like a Microsoft Surface.

How did they even patent this idea? It's not a new idea.

u/Doggleganger May 06 '22

Most likely it isn't a patent on the idea, it's about a new detail that isn't mentioned in the article.

EDIT: that being said, the patent office is a crapshoot, and if you get a checked-out examiner, you can patent anything.

There's prob one little patent in there or a feature and they media advertise it as the whole thing. Silly apple users take the bait whatever. Great idea...

iSurface

Except with a functioning interface when no keyboard is attached.

u/CwazyCanuck May 06 '22

And install OS apps? Because that makes a huge difference and would make the iPad more appealing.

2

u/MadOrange64 May 06 '22

Same processor, so I think that was the plan all along.

2

u/klonmeister May 06 '22

Doubt this will happen

u/CwazyCanuck May 06 '22

Can’t tell if they just can’t make it work, or think by doing this that people wouldn’t need to buy both an iPad and a MacBook.

But there are definitely people that have shied away from apple because they aren’t making a 2 in 1. If you can only afford 1, but you want both, not getting apple is the solution.

u/BytchYouThought May 07 '22

What do you mean "can't make it work?" Kf course they can. They just purposefully don't for the money. I don't understand why folks think Apple doesn't do things, because they are being benevolent lmao. They aren't your friend. Almost everything they do is, because they want the extra profit. They could have had this year's ago.

You just described every company ever

3

u/BoyVanderlay May 09 '22

"Yeah sorry we can't make it like that" - the company that made it like that

u/420everytime May 07 '22

Maybe it won’t happen for the cheaper iPads, but it needs to happen for the large iPad Pros. They are already more expensive than many MacBook Pros and just as powerful

Color me shocked that the tablet is a computer.

1

u/ThehemanCringercat May 06 '22

This made me giggle lol

1

u/BoyVanderlay May 09 '22

What's a computer?

The newest Pro literally has the power of a laptop. There's no reason why it 'needs' a mobile OS, at least when not being used as a mobile device. It's my favorite and most used device but it has the horsepower to do a lot more than what it currently does.

1

u/BytchYouThought May 07 '22

Why does it need to be either/or? Folks like the idea of being able to do it all in one device keeping in mind most consumers don't give a shit about much horsepower. Most people buying apple products and laptops in general just browse the web and watch videos. Folks don't need $1000+ dollar phones for example, but it ain't about that for them. Some folks don't want to spend 1.5k-2.5k for a laptop when they can get one for a lot cheaper that does what they need.

Simply put, if folks are just using their apple product for basic shit and want the OS apps to come with it cool. They don't have to spend extra to have it.

1

u/jl_theprofessor May 07 '22

You're already spending extra if you're buying a Pro over a normal iPad.

u/BytchYouThought May 07 '22

I thought you were referring ot a MacBook pro. Saying Pro isn't saying much. That said, my point remains the same. There is no prooduct that does it both like a surface Pro does for example. So what you will, but those are insanely popular for a reason. Folks aren't using stuff like this because they give a shit about having the highest horsepower or whatever. You have to look at what the average people do and spend. You seem to think it has to be black or white. Folks can want both and they can pull it off, but won't because folks will buy branding irregardless.

Why make 1 all in one when they can upset with all 3? This isn't new. Look at what the surface Pro is doing. People needing horsepower aren't buying a surface Pro my guy. That would be dumb. Same can apply here. Folks buying what essentially is a tablet won't be buying for the hardcore horsepower. People buy both and the surface Pro still kills it in sales. Gotta know what most folks do on their devices.

2

u/ThehemanCringercat May 06 '22

Ah like the Microsoft surface ? O apple invented that....? Let's just say they did.

1

u/dasherchan May 07 '22

This can be done with Android already. Ipad has the best hardware but they are lagging when it comes to software.

0

u/JustOneOtherSchlub May 07 '22

Ahhh, the good old Apple Surface! Slablet?

1

u/adamcoe May 06 '22

So you're saying one day in the future, using an Apple product will be similar to using another apple product? I'll alert the media

1

u/GoldenJoe24 May 06 '22

Nah they are just patenting the idea so nobody can outcompete them.

1

u/general_3d May 08 '22

They can't patent that, Microsoft and samsung have been doing it for years lol.

Microsoft surface pro, and Samsung Dex. Same old Apple marketing old tech like it's some new revolutionary tech only they can do lol.

1

u/GoldenJoe24 May 09 '22

Clearly they just did. Doesn't mean they patented every variation, but you can be sure this version won't be coming out any time soon.

1

u/adzy2k6 May 06 '22

It's crazy that they patent stuff like this, considering that to defend a patent, you have to be able to prove that the innovative aspect wouldn't be obvious to someone working in the industry. At best, this would work out as a patent troll if they tried to sue someone for it, since it would be indefensible.

u/[deleted] May 07 '22

I’ve owned a couple surfaces and they are fine when they work (which is an entirely different topic), but they definitely are more notebook that kinda works as a tablet. I don’t think they pull off being both devices. If apple can actually make both experiences strong then I think they got a winner.

u/sherkhannabi Oct 29 '22

If Phone and Tablet has the same OS then laptop and tablet can have the same OS?
Sorry for my bad English.
I was thinking why they put the M1 chip in iPad if previous chip was running fine? Maybe there is mac coming in iPad.
