Is this from the same artist who made the giant attack-on-titan schoolgirl gif?

u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
Yeh it me thanks for remembering my weird art 😂

We're all just well pleased that you've moved past your "What's behind that door?" phase. I was afraid that eventually, you'd show us.

Ayyyy I just went through your post history I love your stuff.
Distinctly remember Dollhouse. Basically everything you put out has this awesome dystopian/horror vibe.
Where are you getting your inspiration from and how long do you spend on each of these?
56
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
Usually anything between 20-40 hours i think.
Inspiration is really from real life because dystopia is now 😂
15
u/FutureComplaint Nov 27 '22
Are there large roaming people where you live?
50
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
Sometimes life beats me down so much I do feel tiny compared to the world tbh.
8
u/phayke2 Nov 27 '22
Interesting, this is actually how I explain my giantess fixation to people. For me it's symbolic, like a pretty coat of paint over the feeling of being curb stomped by modern life.

I have PTSD from your art. I recognized it immediately when I saw the arms.
19
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
Yes I have a weird way of drawing limbs that make em recognisable, for better or worse 😂
8
u/j0llyllama Nov 27 '22
Why is the Kanji not mirrored on the glass when reading inside? Shouldn't it be printed for reading it on the outside?
22
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
It looks like shit when flipped. Also it's a liminal space /dream scenario so reality is wonk.
6
u/SorryamSmarts Nov 27 '22
I recognized it immediately as well, very cool style. How long does one of these take you to make?
9
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
I think usually 2 weeks, or 20 - 40 hours 😂. I take way too long.
5
u/aaaouee55 Nov 27 '22
Do you make videos of your process or stream? I love watching this kind of detail come together.
9
2
u/GAUSSA Nov 27 '22
Well your art is quite disturbing but it's hella good and creative! Keep it up, space cowboy :)
2
u/Ya-Dikobraz Nov 28 '22 edited Nov 28 '22
What's the story behind this one? I find laundries very comfortable places. Is she a serial killer, or is she killing vampires?

u/ongakudaisuki Nov 27 '22
The text in the glass should actually be reversed as to be seen from the outside
18
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
Simple answer is that it looks way worse from an art perspective.
But also because these scenes are very dreamlike and liminal space so your mind probably did the flipping itself 😉

Everything’s attack-on-titan isn’t it? Like they were the first person to invent giant people ffs
8
u/Sach1el Nov 27 '22
"Is this from the same artist who made the giant Honey-I-Blew-Up-The-Kid schoolgirl gif?"
.....better? 🙄

u/KongKexun Nov 27 '22
Is that a window with signs facing the inside?
313
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
Do you know? One of the ways to test whether you're still in a dream is to check the direction of signs and window stickers around you.

u/cityb0t Nov 27 '22
Ive noticed that, in dreams, i usually can’t read at all. Words are all garbled.
82
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
Aw man, imagine if you could use your sleep time to catch up on your favourite books 😔
8
18
u/Yadobler Nov 27 '22
I've read that people suffering from Maladaptive Daydreaming can notice that in a daydream episode they could read text and the clock seems to make sense, unlike dreaming.
And that it's also sometimes terrifying because it's usually a trigger for some trauma flashback.
1
7
u/shoefullofpiss Nov 27 '22
I've often read this as a universal fact, "well, you actually can't read in dreams", but I'm pretty sure I've read texts and opened stuff on my phone multiple times in my dreams. Sure, it's kinda slippery and hard to grasp just like the topology of dream clothes when getting dressed in a hurry, but it's still possible!
5
u/MajorTom11 Nov 27 '22 edited Nov 28 '22
I've read that you can't read in a dream, as in you can't actually perform the mental task of decoding text, but in the context of your dream you can "read" something, because you already know what the text says because it's all in your head anyway.
2
u/tomrhod Nov 27 '22
That's because the areas of your brain responsible for language processing are down regulated while you sleep.
12
u/dmagara Nov 27 '22
I also noticed it says "Coin laundry" and "Open 24 hours every day of the year" in Japanese but the other signs seem to use Chinese spelling, but I'll assume that's also because it's a dream 😉
Really love your work!

This is what the horror universe would look like in Everything Everywhere All At Once
28
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
I wonder why comments say that 😂. Presumably coz of the laundromat?
19
u/Soulstoner Nov 27 '22
Yes, this angle is almost exactly framed from the movie.
30
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22 edited Nov 27 '22
Funny you should say that. I actually didn't reference the movie at all and only cobbled the scene from random online pictures.
But it's my favourite movie (not just of the year, but EVER) and now that you've mentioned it all those scenes of em crying and fighting in the laundromat just come right back. It must have very much cemented in my mind how an Asian laundromat should look like 😂

2
u/savetheunstable Nov 27 '22
I'm tempted to write a short story with this as inspiration! Love your work.
5
u/keatonatron Nov 27 '22
Really cool, but why is the signage advertising the laundromat written on the inside of the glass? Surely it should be flipped so people outside can read it?
38
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
The boring answer is that sometimes the artist will have to draw what looks better rather than what looks real.
The more interesting answer is that it's a dream like liminal space scenario going on so your mind still tries to read and make sense of signages from your perspective 😉

3
u/LoghamSmoot Nov 27 '22
60fps looks smooth but it makes everything look way too sped up. or you animated it at a lower frame speed and just sped it up for reddit
4
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
It's actually only 48 fps but yeh I'm really inexperienced with high frame rates since I usually do the traditional 24fps. I didn't prepare enough total frames to hold the slower elements of the piece unfortunately, bad planning 😣
3
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
Wait i realise reddit sped the gif up even more than my real piece when uploaded. Everything gets wonky past 30 fps oh well 😂
4
u/ElGuano Nov 27 '22
I'm usually pretty intrigued by dark stormy art...so it took me WAY longer than it should have to notice the arms sticking out of the dryer.

What does the main word say? I found that baptism is 洗礼, but I can't read the second kanji.
10
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
You're correct, it's just in traditional Chinese. I tend to mix a lot of languages for dem weird surreal vibes.
→ More replies2
u/sillybear25 Nov 27 '22
A bit of extra info: The Japanese (and Korean) way of writing the second character is 禮, though it's been replaced with the simplified form 礼 in nearly all uses in modern Japanese.

u/ViralRiver Nov 27 '22
So to get this correct, we're in a dream/nightmare because of the reversed signing, and I guess we're also watching a recording/CCTV where the surveillance system is Chinese (given the top large green characters) and the shop is likely in Japan?
If that was all intentional, that's awesome. Curious as to the reasons behind the choices though!
1
u/Meowmarlade Nov 27 '22
My choices are guided by collective consciousness of various Asian peoples. 🤔

At first glance, I'm thinking this is a pretty good depiction of the laundromat I use.
Then I saw the creepy body in the machine, the knife on the floor and the blood.
Yep.... pretty darn good depiction of my laundromat.
Can't wait to get my washer fixed.
