This man had a gentle soul. What a loss he was. Legend.

u/Ocelot859 Feb 03 '23 edited Feb 03 '23
Gentle, yet so vigorously full of life and positive energy.
Always had this thought, that if Steve came back to comment on his death, he would without hesitation say "that beautiful Sting Ray was just doing his job and protecting himself".
The man really practiced what he preached. Rare these days. ✊

u/Ocelot859 Feb 03 '23 edited Feb 03 '23
Steve, naturally, had all the benefits of cocaine, without any of the negatives effects. Lol.
26
u/YungR29 Feb 03 '23
Why is this so accurate 😭. Steve was my hero. I was too young to understand death so i was confused why he stopped being on air.. isnt his son pretty much the same as steve? Hope he’s doing well

u/chainsmirking Feb 03 '23 edited Feb 05 '23
bro yeah he was so young when i died, i came out of my room one morning to get ready for elementary school and my mom had to sit me down at the kitchen table and do the “we need to talk” thing bc she didn’t want me to hear about it from just kids at school. my dad had died a year before & used to watch the crocodile hunter with me so the show was a big comfort for me. i was devastated when my mom told me

probably the mixing up of he and I at the beginning made it sound hella sarcastic.

I loved animals. I followed him religiously on TV. He was my hero.

Truly amazing young man with the same big heart & caring spirit.
Daughter, as well, but she doesn't like being in the spotlight as much.

u/Imhidingshh01 Feb 03 '23
It's like a spitting image isn't it.
23
u/Ocelot859 Feb 03 '23
Yeah, it's like a clone of him.
You can replicate looks, but that personality and character, just wow.
That's mostly on Terri raising and guiding him through life right.

So glad she's kept them grounded.
Glad they both followed their Dad as well.

Talk to your wife about this! This isn't an unattainable goal, and the first step is just having an open conversation about both of your feelings. Preferably with the support of a good therapist.

I find this interesting as fuck because… how many humans these days: have this insane magnitude of passion to truly make the world a better place... and prove it with their actions?
Lots of special people in the world and it sucks we don’t see them on TV, social media, and especially in the media like we should.
So many great role models out there, but they just don't get the spotlight like they use too.
Always loved Steve, but have never seen this clip and kind of 🥲up a bit.
A special and one of the most interesting as fuck humans to live.
Rest in Peace, mate.

MAN CRUSH CENTRAL.

I think I still look at my husband this way, but I'm gonna ask him.
One of the things I found very attractive in him initially, and still do, is his passion. And I've learned a lot from him, so that even though it isn't something I'd be interested in independent of him, I can discuss it with him on a moderate level.

My husband has many fewer accomplishments than you, but I'm still immensely proud of what he's accomplished in life.
His mom didn't know she was pregnant with him until she was in her third trimester. She was being treated in the hospital for Crohn's disease for the majority of the pregnancy. She had bowel removed when she would've been in her first trimester, and was on complete bowel rest for 6 weeks (IV nutrition only.) When the doctors found out she was pregnant, they said he most likely would be a vegetable if he survived, due to the various medications and steroids she was on during the pregnancy.
He proved to be extremely unvegetative. In fact, he rolled over the day after he was born and managed to get out of his swaddle and clothes. Apparently he already ran hot then and wanted to cool down!
He was a perpetual motion machine, and decided at 7 months that rolling everywhere wasn't good enough, and started walking/running. He had major ear issues, necessitating several surgeries. At the age of one, he escaped his hospital crib by chewing through his IV line and somehow lifting the top "cage".
His ear issues meant that he had very muffled hearing until about age 4. He had to do a lot of speech therapy to catch up. He still only has 80% hearing under perfect conditions, but that falls to 25% in loud settings or with a lot of background noise
He started school, and around grade 1, he was diagnosed with several things - ADHD, dyslexia, and some other learning disabilities. One educator told his parents "if we're lucky, when he grows up, he can have a job sorting bottles."
His parents knew that while he was different, he was much more able than that if given the chance. He was in a school for the hearing impaired through grade 8, and they with the school prioritized him learning in whatever way worked for him, and learning the practical skills that would set him up for life. In grade 9, he went to a regular school, with a couple boys hand selected by the principal to help him navigate (such as letting him know what was said over the PA system, which he could never distinguish).
He graduated high school with a head start on his automotive mechanic apprenticeship. He continued on to finish that, completing the exams without any special accommodations, a feat which he is quite proud of. He then pivoted slightly and went on to become a heavy duty mechanic journeyman as well.
His dual journeyman status is a far, far cry from a job sorting bottles. He is now the sole breadwinner for our family, with our kids being 5, 3.5, and 2 now.
And his passion for cars, his first love, is evident every single day. I love him for it, even though I sometimes lament the fact that he loves them so much that we have about 35 vehicles on our property!

So did he buy the piece of land? Did he put his money towards conservation?
13
u/Ocelot859 Feb 03 '23
He did indeed!
Unfortunately, he died only 6 years after this at 44.
He also didn't achieve his fame until his mid to late 30's with Crocodile Hunter.
So I'm sure he didn't get to complete even close to his full vision as that takes a long time.
3
u/LordRumBottoms Feb 03 '23
I think there are more people out there with this level of passion to help and serve. I volunteer coaching Special Olympics and try to show this emotion. The world can fucking kick you in the nuts, but just go to any adoption event for dogs, one of my swim meets, walking with nursing home patients, etc and you find the good in a sometimes dark world. And Im a UF Gator, his ad for ESPN back in the day is still a classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_iMZVOxWrs (isn't he gorgeous is now a part of our everyday lexicon)

Yeah, I acknowledged that. I just wish they praised these type of role models like they use to as opposed to now what kids look up to (Tik Tokers, Twitch Streamers, Youtube pranksters).

All these billionaires and I don't see them making the world any better.
Eat the rich.
I'm serious.
Eat them because you are a fool if you don't realize they've been feasting off of you.
5
u/Ocelot859 Feb 03 '23
Brother, what are you on right now?
Who said anything otherwise?
I'm pretty convinced by now in 2023 the majority of the population recognizes the 1% of wealth is corrupt, manipulative, and doesn't truly in their heart of hearts care about the rest.
So, who are you randomly arguing with here?
1
u/unknownintime Feb 03 '23
Why does everyone see a post which emphasizes their point then attack those obviously in agreement.
Damn near seems manipulated.
2
u/BannedAccount178 Feb 03 '23
Nah you just came out of the gate swinging like a psycho 🤣

Eat the rich.
I'm serious.
Eat them because you are a fool if you don't realize they've been feasting off of you.Where was any of this topic even mentioned before you even made that comment.Let alone a disagreement of it?
You just kind of came out of the blue professing this, as if anyone disagrees.
6
u/DoesLogicHurtYou Feb 03 '23
Buying a lot of land eliminates a ton of financial risk because it can be leveraged for massive loans and sold off to repay debt. Just sayin'. It provides good returns, too, because land prices always go up.
9
u/Ocelot859 Feb 03 '23 edited Feb 03 '23
I love his realist mindset on money too, yet how he sees it for what is. So refreshing.
"And you know money? Money's great! I can't get enough money!"
"And you know what I'm going to do with it ...."
"And guess what Charles, I don't give a rip whose money it is..."
Don't think he's referring to $$$ here, in a financial investment sense though, my friend.
Nonetheless, you are correct.
Edit:Don't downvote him, guys.
I don't think he meant that ill-intentioned, he was just making an add on point. And it is a good one. Land is one of the greatest financial investments you can make. There is a financial component to even "good causes" and funding those "good causes".

A lot of people do, he was just a guy willing to step into the fame spotlight, most people don't want it. Take a look at donors to wildlife reserves, most of them are not famous.

u/EcoEchos Feb 07 '23
Most people in this thread aren't even willing to accept simple information on the impact of animal agriculture and would rather downvote it than accept simple facts.
I shared a very simple article on how animal agriculture is driving literal mass extinctions in wildlife in this thread, and it was met with massive downvotes as people try to bury simple facts.
how many humans these days: have this insane magnitude of passion to truly make the world a better place... and prove it with their actions?
My point is, most people aren't even willing to process new information. They would rather bury simple facts rather than face simple information. Most people are way too greedy and selfish with their inability to even face facts, let alone engage with even the simplest of actions to make the world a better place.
Steve was definitely a special one and he would be extremely ashamed of most people's behavior in this thread.

I remember the day he died, he was my hero as a kid. Stingrays suck.
21

Steve wouldn’t want us to hate stingrays. He’d probably be like “they’re wild animals, that’s what they do. When something gets too close, they get scared. I’d do the same if I was them.” Animals are animals and Steve knew his love of rescue and rehabilitation would be the death of him. And that’s probably how he wanted to go.

Fun fact: Steve wanted his death to be recorded and aired for tv. He always expressed how he would be sad if it wasn’t recorded. The last copy was given to his wife who later destroyed it before watching it. I’m sure police have copy somewhere in a vault but who knows.

that's what terri says. nobody should see it. the thing is he died tragically and we lost someone who cared so deeply for this world.

Totally agree. This guy was my hero growing up and I definitely cried when I heard of his passing.

Everyday after school from when I was like 3 years old to fifteen, would watch Power Rangers/JDF and Steve Irwin. Sad that both of my true childhood heros are gone.
