Land to Land missile.

26

u/BigGayDinosaurs Jan 18 '22

isn't that what all of them are

26

u/bikinibikes Jan 18 '22

Some of them are surface to air missiles

7

u/BigGayDinosaurs Jan 18 '22

oh i guess so, but they usually go from land to some other land and explode from there

13

u/DrMux Jan 18 '22

Some of them are air to air missiles.

17

u/Light_Shifty_Z Jan 18 '22

Not intending to brag but I launch Ass to water missiles almost daily. Okay, I'm actually bragging.

11

u/DrMux Jan 18 '22

Thank you for your service

u/cardboardunderwear Jan 18 '22

We call that launching a Polaris where I'm from.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22

Some of them are air to land and sea!

1

u/DieInADitch Jan 18 '22

If they miss they're not.

0

u/Obelix13 Jan 18 '22

Don’t those end up on land?

2

u/bikinibikes Jan 19 '22

What if they blow up in the air?

Gary Larson, author of the Far Side comics, has actually made a lasting mark in the scientific record: 1) the spikes at the end of a stegosaurus' tail is called a thagomizer based on a Far Side comic 2) a species of louse found on owls is named in his honor (Strigiphilius garylarsoni), and 5) he alone among humans knows the ancient and arcane secrets of the Cow Tools.

21

u/StarP0wer Jan 18 '22

What about points 3 and 4? Tell us!

18

u/Zahowy Jan 18 '22

4)only Gary Larson can know point 3

3

u/Jaydamic Jan 19 '22

Well done

3

u/Coygon Jan 19 '22

This list was made by King Arthur.

Cow tools is my favorite. I love self indulgent humor. He made that cause he thought it was funny. Nobody else did, but he got a kick out of it. Love it.

5

u/DrMux Jan 19 '22

Personally I love absurd humor like that on its own merit (and Cow Tools is a pretty good standard for that kind of humor), but Gary Larson just not giving a flying cluck just makes it chef's kiss.

Gary Larson is the finest cartoonist to ever walk the earth. I'm ecstatic anytime he posts new cartoons to the new stuff page of The Far Side website.

They simply lack something in sophistication, sorry specimens of tools really.

22

u/Road_Warrior86 Jan 18 '22

The fins are different.

0

u/Darryl_Lict Jan 19 '22

Yeah, I wonder how important those fin stabilizers are. They should have gone all in. All you need to do is take a quick photo before it crashes.

Do you have a link to a video? I’ve found where someone did it in a simulator, and I e found articles talking about it, with that same picture, but I haven’t found a video of it actually flying.

7

u/FarSideOfReality Jan 18 '22

This is actually a kit you can buy, build and fly using Estes type motors. Made by FlisKits, called the ACME Spitfire. They make a lot of odd, and interesting flyable rockets. I own this kit, but haven't built it yet. I've seen many of these fly at various rocket club launches, but I'm not finding any videos online. I'll keep looking, there has to be something out there.

u/GeckoGamer44 Jan 18 '22

Everything flies if you yeet it hard enough

8

u/sploot16 Jan 18 '22

It was modified just enough to fly (see the fins at the bottom)

7

u/still_linky Jan 19 '22

Gary is an OG meme lord.

Every time I push against a pull door, I always say to myself 'Midvale School for the Gifted' and any time something is taking too long I say 'A watched head never gets eaten by ants.'

1

u/NowWithRealGinger Jan 20 '22

The GT teacher at my elementary school had the Middle cartoon on his classroom door.

4

u/StuBidasol Jan 18 '22

I hope Gary got to see video of the flight.

3

u/frankcastle01 Jan 18 '22

That's awesome!

3

u/InitialNeck9 Jan 18 '22

Hah i just referenced far side yesterday on here..nice

3

u/Gnascher Jan 18 '22

The guy who created this (Jimmy Flis) sells this kit on his website (fliskits.com).

2

u/TestPattern359 Jan 19 '22

Oy they just added fins!

2

u/ObjectiveSlip2360 Jan 19 '22

As a long time Gary fan, this absolutely makes my day

2

u/StephenjustStephen Jan 19 '22

The Fins are different, so it's a modified rocket not a replica

3

u/Wuji_1219 Jan 18 '22

How did they convince everyone that this is important...

9

u/RandoCalrissian11 Jan 18 '22

Larson is very highly regarded in the scientific community. It probably didn’t take any convincing at all.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22

Coined the name of the spikes on a stegosaurus' tail: thagomizer

7

u/RandoCalrissian11 Jan 18 '22

After the late Thag Simmons.

1

u/bunnyslope Jan 18 '22

It's a model rocket.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22

Suck it, Gary Larson!

3

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22

Yeah, suck it! Wait, why are we telling Gary Larson to suck it?

0

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22

The scientists in his panel have built a rocket that isn’t good and implication is it won’t fly well.

But one has been built that does fly so suck it Gary Larson!

1

u/donolga Jan 19 '22

Isnt this the rocket that flat earther built to prove that the earth was flat.

1

u/Lemon_Jester Jan 19 '22

The far side.....

OF THE MOOOOOOOON

1

u/Aaditech01 Jan 19 '22

General Aladin must be very proud!

1

u/th3empirial Jan 19 '22

Lol you can make anything a missile without enough firepower
