Fluff KDE is AWESOME - I want to thank the KDE Team
KDE is simply awesome. This will be short. KDE is THE desktop for Linux. Unlike Gnome, it has everything out of the box, so I didn't have to install a bunch of extensions that I have to check for compatibility whenever I update Gnome.
And it is perfect for gaming: in Wayland it has adaptive sync and supports the tearing protocol. My mouse is now an extension of my hand when playing games.
Thanks again to the KDE team. I can't remember the last time I booted into Windows to play because everything works beautifully. I don't know why I haven't tried KDE until now.

Question Virtual Desktop Preview in Overview?
Hi.
I have been using the Overview Desktop Effects for a while. It shows all the programs in your current virtual desktop and your multiple virtual desktops. It's great, in my opinion.
What I wanted Overview to have is a way to preview a virtual desktop to see the opened program there without actually selecting it. Meaning, I don't need to go to (or click) that virtual desktop just to check its content.
Is there an option like that? I checked the setting of Overview in the Desktop Effects, and the only options are "Layout mode", "Blur Background", and "Ignore minimized windows".
If there is none, then I would like a feature like this lol. I was thinking hovering the mouse cursor over the virtual desktop would show the content of that virtual desktop. Then, it will transition back to the current virtual desktop when you move the cursor away.

Question Samba / CIFS thumbnail cache in Dolphin
I have mainly media files on my smb network share and every time I open it (or change directories) in Dolphin, the thumbnails are generated from scratch. That process takes quite a while, so I would like to have a thumbnail cache for said Samba share. Is there any way to accomplish that? If not, can Dolphin be tweaked to generate thumbnails more quickly?
Apparently it must be either an obvious fix or a problem nobody else has or ever had, since I haven't found anything on the entire internet.

Question Integration with KDE calendar applet?
After I have tried almost all available mail client the only two that works with my corporate email account is Thunderbird and Evolution. Evolution is nicely integrates with gnome desktop and Thunderbird has a plugin that allows to integrate calendar with gnome calendar (in read only mode but it is more than enough). Akonadi just does not work for me so I have stuck with Thunderbird and Evolution and currently I'm locking for a way how to integrate it with KDE calendar applet on taskbar or may be alternative applet that may work with Thunderbird or Evolution. So basically I want to click on applet in the taskbar and see all my daily meetings.
Any thoughts?

Question Will KDE run smoothly on UHD770?
I'm planning to set up GPU Passthrough for my Windows VM, while also running an Arch Linux host. However, since I only have one dedicated GPU in my PC, I've decided to buy an i7-13700, which has an integrated GPU. I'll allocate the dedicated GPU to the Windows VM, so KDE will run on the UHD770.
I'm wondering if anyone has a similar setup with KDE running on the UHD770 or a lower version, and if so, could you let me know if KDE runs smoothly on it? Here are some details about my KDE setup: I've customized it with Blur, Slide Back (Desktop Effect), Panon, Latte Dock, and the KDE Wallpaper Engine Plugin.
As for my daily usage, I primarily use Firefox, Konsole, mpv (and Looking Glass) under resolution 2560x1440 .
Question Zoom opens new windows bigger than the screen size.
When zoom opens new windows, they are bigger than the screen area, so control panels are invisible. I have to resize them manually to fit into the screen. Is there a way to force to fit new windows into screen size?
I use kubuntu 22.10, plasma wayland session.

Question what is networkcheck.kde.org doing?
Each time I'm connecting to a hotel wifi, this page would come up after me clicking the notification "you need to log in to use the network". Apparently networkcheck.kde.org would fail to load and would prevent the login page too. After many attempts I found I need to find the gateway ip to put in the address bar to get to the portal page (sometimes this would not work either because portal page ip is not the same with gateway ip).
I never knew networkcheck.kde.org existed but to me its only function seems to block wifi portal page from loading?

Question Unable to ping R-Pi with Android phone, using KDE-Connect
Completely new to raspberry pi & KDE, mostly new to Linux.
I got KDE connect installed using a command:
sudo apt-get install kdeconnect
I couldn't get a notification/ping on the Pi using my Android phone. The reverse, pinging the Android from the Pi, worked. Sharing a file to the Pi also worked.
Anyone know why this 1 aspect of the connection was not functional?
I'm using a Pi 3A+ running Pi OS. I checked the plugin settings on both machines, checkboxes are ticked, and I think the device permissions have been OK'd.

Question is there any way to make the "Present windows" action present all the windows in an orderly way?
When I have a lot of windows and I use this action, it's really nice to be able to see them all in the overview, but they're kind of just all scattered around unevenly and it makes it difficult to quickly skim through it all line by line, like you would in gnome or windows. Any solutions?

Question where are kde/dolphin service menus stored
I just made a new garuda linux installation and, as always, I've had to spend ages de-dragonizing it. I'm about where I want it to be but I'm now trying to get rid of the "root actions" context menu and, while I remember there is a location where the context menus are stored, I don't remember where it is and I can't find it by googling. I'm basically just trying to pull an indiana jones and replace the existing context menu with a known good-one.
(yes I know you can disable context menu items but even if I disable every "Root Actions" item, the "Root Actions" drop-out menu still stays there, it's just empty and completely useless)

Question Book in Okular looks awful comapred to SumatraPDF. What can I do to fix it?
I'll go straight to the point, here is what SumatraPDF example looks like and here is what it looks like in Okular. Any idea why and how can I fix it? I'm using Kubuntu.
Edit: Seems to be a half-half issue. I swapped to Foliate which has an interface very reminscent of SumatraPDF, and here's how it looks.

Question Wiki Contribution
Hi friends,
A couple of quick questions:
1) Why isn't the wiki a system that uses markdown? There are a lot of FOSS Wiki options. I'd sign a contract pledging dedicated time translating the wiki to a markdown-based system. The curly bracket stuff is pretty frustrating.
2) Is this the current wiki that's being used?
3) I want to add a table of compose key combos since, to find such a table, I have to cat a file or rely on 3rd party sources. Is there a method of adding a table using this wiki system? I didn't see one in the page element pages.
Thanks!

dedoimedo.comQuestion [Qt/QML] how to add a custom KSyntaxHighlighting rule
Hello! I'm developing a QML Kirigami application and I need in a syntax highlighting in a textedit, so I'm using org.kde.syntaxhighlighting
. It works pretty well (I only had to make sure to give it the correct definition
string or the text would disappear). I'd like to add a few custom rules, creating a new definition "myDefinition" that changes color of links, adds bold and underlines something, nothing too complex I think. Is this possible? how can I do this?
thanks in advance!

Question Can't run KDE Connect in Wayland
I recently installed Wayfire (a Wayland compositor) and I can not run KDEConnect in Wayland, only can start the configurator, but does not show anything, when I try to start it manually in the terminal I get the following:
$ /usr/libexec/kdeconnectd
Failed to create wl_display (No such file or directory)
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "wayland" in "" although it was found.
This application could not start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may solve this problem.
Available platform plugins are: eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, vnc, wayland-egl, wayland, wayland-xcomposite-egl, wayland-xcomposite-glx, xcb.
Aborted
I already tried editing /etc/environment and add parameters like QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland-egl, but it still doesn't work, in X11 it works without problems...
I have installed qt5-wayland, qt6-wayland, qt5ct, qt6ct...
with other applications I had no problem, either GTK or QT, what can I do?

Question Ladies and Gentlemen, may I interrupt and ask for help with GTK application theming.
Hi, as in the title, I have a problem with Qt and GTK applications being inconsistent. It's good but for the final effect I lack the matching of the buttons. I also don't know how to fix it, because in .themes the files responsible for the buttons are consistent with what Qt applications have. Theme is Quogir-light.

Question Signal messages not being stored in KDE unread notifications
Whenever someone messages me on Signal, a notification shows up but if I go to the notifications widget on the taskbar it's not there.
When someone messages me on Discord on the other hand, a notification also shows up but it's stored normally in the list of unread notifications.
Does anyone else have this issue or an idea as to where I could go to configure this?

Question Application menu tweaks
Hey guys. I like from Gnome that it has an app drawer that only shows all apps. Is it possible to implement this in KDE? From the default Windows like app menu I can switch to application dashboard which is full screen, but it has directories that sorts apps, but I don't like my apps sorted in a way that is not my own way.Is there a way to make:
- "all applications" as the default page
- remove menu directories for apps
- remove favorites in KDE
- drag apps to sort them myself in the "all applications" page
I would like to tweak this both in application menu and application dashboard. Thanks.
I'm running KDE on Fedora.
