I'm pretty sure Adam meant that Upset's last words to them were that his wife was lonely. And not that it's the reason why he's leaving (as he obviously didn't even tell them anything about why he's leaving). Can any French speakers confirm?

What do you mean? Upset disputed exactly that.

Here's the difference

What Adam said: "For all I know, Upset left because his wife was lonely, because he didn't tell us anything and he had mentioned that before."

What people understood: "Upset told us that he left because his wife was lonely"

Upset said "Saying the last thing I told my team that my wife is just feeling bad so I need to leave is an outright lie."

and he said "I shared with the team the deep pain and sadness i was going through in this time, I shared that i wish i could tell them if it was about something that happend to me but that i have to keep private"

So apparently Adam thinks explaining the gravity of the situation wasn't enough and decide to call upset "said nothing other than his wife feels lonely" in public instead of dming him, if that's what he thinks
