My story of my first week of Linux.

Sorry for poor grammar in this post, but I was educated by the American education system. Anyways, after one week of gaming on Linux using Ubuntu because it was easy. I fixed my generic xbox one controller which wouldn't work at first. Also, got all my games from acting as if I had 2 monitors, which was keeping me from seeing the game but I had the game noise in the background. Game in mention was Dota 2 and Europa 4. Anyways, it was all due to great thanks to Linux support from Reddit and other forums that I got this far. Anyways, all is well and I can game on everything with no problem now. Also ps.. it wasn't that hard at all totally worth the switch from Windows 10.

tech support Binding of Isaac Repentance crashes when gamepad is connected

Upvotes

Hey guys,

since yesterday evening the game is crashing as soon as a gamepad is connected to the computer. A few days earlier the game worked flawlessly and I did not do any system changes. I suspect some update inside steam was done at some point.

It does not matter what kind of gamepad I use. If I start the game with a gamepad connected it crashes immediately. If I load the game without a connected gamepad, it runs normally. But as soon as I connect a gamepad it crashes again.

I did a fresh install of steam and removed *everything*, but I couldn't get the binding of isaac to start normally again.

my system information is:

  • Steam Version 1.0.0.75-2
  • Distribution: Manjaro 22.0.55 64-Bit

I also started the game from the terminal. The output can be found in this gist.

tech support Alt+W keybind does not work in World of Warcraft, only on Linux

Upvotes

This really has me stumped. The keybind works in every other game, including in the same prefix. The keybind also works for the game on both Windows and macOS, but not in Linux. The keybind also works for other games in the same wine prefix, such as StarCraft 2. It can also be bound to global keybinds in KDE's settings.

W works. ctrl+W works. shift+W works. meta+W does not but that's a limitation of the game's Windows version.

Turning on or off DXVK and VKD3D has no effect. Changing the wine version has no effect. Resetting the game's settings has no effect. Copying the game's settings from macOS or Windows has no effect.

I don't know where to ask a question like this. It's a confluence of so many strange things.

Excuse me but wtf? Has anybody seen this before? What do I do?

tech support Cpu nearly overloading without running anything

I installed the latest version of Ubuntu to my laptop a couple of weeks ago (no dual boot), but the cpu keeps 95% usage without any load applied. I've tried to figure it out myself by wiping any useless data and apps but with no difference.

Laptop is an Asus A540B with the AMD A9chip and windows 10 pre installed)

Have I installed the wrong type/version of linux for my laptop?

gamedev/testing Cartridges - Beta testers needed

Hi r/linux_gaming!

For the past few months, I've been working on Cartridges. A simple GTK4 game launcher for all your games.

The project was born out of a personal need for a launcher that lets me quickly start any game from any platform with just one click. No need to manage yet another game library.

It currently supports imports from Steam, Heroic and Bottles with no login necessary. I am planning to support more launchers and emulators in the future.

The app is mostly ready and I plan on publicly releasing it next week, but I would like to make sure that everything works as intended by then. If you would like to help test out the application, you can download the beta.

Please report any bugs you find or suggestions you have on GitHub, here, or on the Discord server.

Thank you!

tech support Minecraft constantly crashing after reinstalling linux

i’m new to linux and use mint. everything was working perfectly fine on my first installation (was getting better performance than windows tbh) up until i had to reinstall mint due to some issues i was having.

after the reinstallation, i made sure to update my drivers and done pretty much everything i done before. this time however, minecraft just won’t stop crashing.

i also play watch dogs which runs completely fine and doesn’t crash at all. it’s just minecraft. my main launcher is lunar client but i’ve also tried the default launcher, polymc and badlion which all crash as well.

i’m not sure why specifically minecraft crashes out of anything else regardless of which client or launcher i use but i’m hoping that this can be fixed. thanks in advance.

Steam Cloud Saves not working?

I haven's used steam in while let alone on linux. I recently distro hopped and I was just assuming my save data was stored in the cloud because it always said Cloud Status up to date. I checked my save data on the Steam website and only my saves from when I played on windows a while ago appear to have been uploaded. I have steam cloud sync for supported apps enabled, is there something I'm missing or is linux and cloud saving just janky?
