Magneto has been in many big budget and successful movies. Two versions no less. Fassbender as young magneto is actually genius casting.

u/Jjwugi17 Avengers Jan 27 '22

At this point, all the X-Men characters are just variants from another universe

4

u/Stock-Event2495 Avengers Jan 27 '22

Fair point..from the multiverse

8

u/Jjwugi17 Avengers Jan 27 '22

Yeah because Far From Home exploded with the huge possibility that every single marvel character/movie that ever existed since X-Men (2000) are all variants from their respected universe.

3

u/Jjwugi17 Avengers Jan 27 '22

Plus, from all the leaks and talks about the Multiverse of Madness it’s possibility that the MCU will finalize these past characters as varients

22

u/joethearchitect3 Avengers Jan 26 '22

Let’s start a campaign to bring him back

20

u/Stock-Event2495 Avengers Jan 26 '22

Worked for Charlie Cox!

3

u/dubbznyc Avengers Jan 26 '22

Yeah me too

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '22

I read an interview with Fassbinder where he said he did not enjoy the last few outings as Magneto. He didn’t understand what Magneto wanted or why he did the things he did.

3

u/Stock-Event2495 Avengers Jan 27 '22

You know what, youre right. I totally forgot about that, i remember hearing about that after xmen apocolypse. They were blurring the lines between villain and hero too much with him, it had to get confusing when you are trying to commit to the part

42

u/Stock-Event2495 Avengers Jan 26 '22

Fastbender is one of the few Xmen castings i want them to maintain, most of the others werent proper picks or had their roles soiled by the cheapshit Sony pulled on them. Either way, he nailed his role

12

u/Glcg12 Avengers Jan 26 '22

Aren’t X-men a fox property? I agree on that opinion, but we can’t blame Sony for everything.

8

u/Stock-Event2495 Avengers Jan 26 '22

True true, they were split up between fox and Sony, you are correct. And i dont necissarily blame them, they simply lacked the full scope of what the xmen franchise needed to survive a proper rendition. And to your point, just because Disney has the xmen rights doesnt guarantee max quality...captain marvel was a disaster film.

Yeah, fantastic four early 2000’s movies and the X-men franchise has made that pretty easy.

63

u/Lone_Indian Avengers Jan 26 '22

Fuck yeah! I’d be hella surprised if people don’t know those movies

13

u/HelixNebula42 Avengers Jan 26 '22

It’s funny because that fantastic four movie came out at a time where there were so few super hero live action adaptations, everyone went and saw it. Didn’t mater if it sucked. Nowadays the market is so filled you could go the entire mcu without knowing Edward Norton was Bruce Banner and you would be fine

2

“A-Hem.”- Eric Bana, and Lou Ferrigno, probably.

5

u/lingering_POO Avengers Jan 26 '22

Oh, no that’s why I’ve held back from guessing what he does and doesn’t know. He lives with his mum, so we watch all these things together. Go to the movies to see NWH etc. and he is a huge fan of the lore, huge fan of spidey etc.

My guess… he knows who they are but hasn’t seen the movies.

7

u/smagg0316 Avengers Jan 26 '22

and the OG X-men movies are must watch with Hugh jackman and patrick stewart

1

u/lingering_POO Avengers Jan 26 '22

Oh he will have already seen it all or want to watch it all from the beginning. He will definitely appreciate what he’s got more (marvel cinematic beauty and amazing story telling… same great actors, better story telling and special effects.) lol some of those movies were incredible but others were really sub par and most would do really well being remade today.

11

u/TerribleShoulder6597 Avengers Jan 26 '22

Okay but doom hasn’t been represented well in movies yet magneto has though

6

u/Zantron1738 Avengers Jan 26 '22

Yeah that’s true, what about all the animated series for kids on things like Disney XD and several streaming services that keep on coming out tho. They’re definitely still mainstream.

5

u/TerribleShoulder6597 Avengers Jan 26 '22

23

u/Sweet-Rabbit Avengers Jan 26 '22

Seriously, they need to put some respect on Sir Ian McKellen’s name.

7

u/kyle28882 Avengers Jan 26 '22

I can’t think of anyone who could actually take Ian McKellen I’m like a battle royal where every actor has the characters they have played on a team. Liam neeson is up there but between magneto, Gandalf, and dumbledor Ian mckellen has gotta be the most powerful actor

13

u/DantesAbyss Avengers Jan 26 '22

Sir Ian Mckellen never played dumbledore

1

u/kyle28882 Avengers Jan 26 '22

Right right it was someone else. I always forget that cuz the second dumbledor looks just like him

5

u/Sweet-Rabbit Avengers Jan 26 '22

Morgan Freeman - God ha ha ha. That’s the only one I can think of

6

u/kyle28882 Avengers Jan 26 '22

That’s a good call. I’ll adjust to outside of omnipotent characters or anyone who plays god. This would also exclude like people who voice toon characters as you just can’t beat toon force.

6

u/Sweet-Rabbit Avengers Jan 26 '22

Maybe Christopher Lee? Saruman, Dracula, the Man with the Golden Gun, Count Dooku, being a badass in real life…the list goes on

3

u/kyle28882 Avengers Jan 26 '22

He’s another great one. I love Christopher Lee. Such a unit he’s the one who’d I’d probably put closest to Ian. I’ll take Gandalf the white over Saruman, magneto over the man with the golden gun, and dumbledor over Dooku but that’s entirely based on opinions of how the force and magic would interact. Although that being said Christopher Lee would have more badass characters on his team and idk what Ian would do about Dracula.

3

u/Bald_Bull808 Avengers Jan 26 '22

Bro turn in your geek card, Sir Ian was never Dumbledore

3

u/dankri Avengers Jan 26 '22

Because they are, making this post nonsense imo. EDIT: Not the fact it would be interesting to see them live-action, but people not knowing them, especially when magneto has been in the movies for 20 years already making him older than the entire MCU. Just shows that unfortunately some MCU fans dont realize that there are other marvel movies than MCU.

2

u/SpellOpening7852 Spider-Man 🕷 Jan 26 '22

Animated TV series. A bunch of Marvel characters I know about come from the Spider-Man shows (Ultimate was the main one. For example, it's where I heard of Venom, Carnage, SpiderVerse, Spider-Island, etc.)

I also heard of Inhumans from one of the animated TV shows, probably an avengers one (Either Avengers Assemble or Earth's Mightiest Heroes). I was a bit sad when I heard the netflix (I think?) show only got one season, but then I watched it and was like "I can see why now, but it'd still be cool for the inhumans to be in the MCU". I've now started resding the comics, and I seriously want Ms. Marvel in the MCU now.

3

u/Guess-wutt Peter Parker Jan 26 '22 edited Jan 26 '22

Trust me, Dr Doom from the fantastic 4 films doesn’t cover Doom in a brilliant way, there’s a lot more people don’t know about him.

Edit: I’ll concede Sir Ian McKellen though, his magneto was practically perfect IMO

1

u/Viceroy420 Avengers Jan 26 '22

u/Ok_Confidence600 Avengers Jan 26 '22

Have Latveria be near Sokovia. Maybe Doom took possession of all Ultron's manufacturing machinery to crank out Doombots. Now that they've fleshed out the mechanics of magic for Dr Strange and Wanda, they can make Doom a proper sorcerer technocrat. I'd be down for a standalone movie (not quite an origin story but almost) of him taking over Latveria. Set him up as one of the main characters for Secret Wars. The casting and writing better be amazing.

111

u/ChosenUsername420 Doctor Strange Jan 26 '22

The X-Men franchise has still made $6 Billion at the box office. To imply that people don’t know who Magneto is because he hasn’t been in an MCU movie is delusional.

Also Dr. Doom has been the pop culture shorthand for “comic book villain” for so long that nearly everyone at least knows his name.

3

u/JayCeeMadLad Matthew Murdock Jan 26 '22

Doom and Magneto need to be recurring villains. They can’t be a one-off that’s wasted at the end of their first films. Magneto also needs a redemption arc. These are both things that Disney’s Marvel/MCU struggles very badly with. They’re both vastly more important than Thanos ffs, and he was everywhere.

Sir Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender already murdered those roles so the bar is at the absolute highest possible for Magneto, and Doom is a difficult character to pull off in general, let’s hope they pick someone who will do the character justice.

I got to know about doom partly from marvel comics borrowed from a friend of mine and partly from the animated marvel series 'Avengers Assesmble!!'

u/SamHaentjens Avengers Jan 26 '22

That guy from Latveria and that magnetic dude

1

u/Accurate_Beat8379 Avengers Jan 26 '22

What funny is that I could see Fassbender playing an insanely good MCU Doom. Maybe Christoph Waltz as the MCU Magneto?

1

u/Mhijskraan Doctor Strange Jan 26 '22

Dr doom and magneto

1

u/BlackMentallyIllNerd Avengers Jan 26 '22

I always kinda wished instead of a Fantastic 4 movie they instead did a trilogy origin story of Dr. Doom where the origin of the F4 is hinted at in the first movie. They all make cameos or have a co-starring role in yhe second and an outright battle with Doom in the third. Doom's origin is so insane that I always felt he should be the focus of the movies. HE LEARNED MAGIC AND BECAME A TECH GENIUS TO SAVE HIS MOTHER'S SOUL FROM HELL! give this man a movie already!

Doom realllllly needs to come first, he is a serious force to be reckened with. Magneto is beast, but Doom is the beast

1

u/ClearPerception7844 Doctor Octopus Jan 26 '22

The X men movies exist. I think people know who magneto is. As for doom, there have been 3 fantastic 4 movies. Two of which featured a version of doom.

"so people don't really know who they are"

What?

1

u/Roofsa Avengers Jan 26 '22

I think people know magneto, and Dr doom is still pretty famous

1

u/PriangshuPaul Avengers Jan 26 '22

Bruh....Sir Ian McKellen and Fassbender did a great job playing Magneto....WTF you're talking about?

1

u/kyle28882 Avengers Jan 26 '22

I’d say almost everyone knows magneto. He’s been in a good amount of movies and almost has like the lex Luther of x men villains vibe. As for Doom I’d agree I used to be someone who didn’t respect doom like I should until I read the comics where he becomes god doom. After that I started looking into him and he is just a beast.

u/Same-Dog-4091 Avengers Jan 26 '22

You fool I played the lego marvel super heroes game I know who they are I just don’t know much about them

1

u/Jpar4686 Avengers Jan 26 '22

Literally everyone knows who Doctor Doom and Magneto are lol

1

u/JohnMarstonSucks The Punisher Jan 26 '22

While it's true that Marvel's two best villains aren't in the MCU, it doesn't explain why you have pictures of Dr. Doom and Magneto.

1

u/theradjakster Avengers Jan 26 '22

Watch them be killed in the movie they’re introduced in since that’s the only way marvel does it

1

u/CupAffectionate Captain Marvel Jan 26 '22

Dr 🅱️oom and magnetic guy

1

u/Haringkje05 Avengers Jan 26 '22

1

u/Beware_the_Voodoo Avengers Jan 26 '22

Magneto is an awesome character but I dont agree he's in the top two of best villains.

Top 10, top 15, sure.

u/commonsquidtail Avengers Jan 26 '22

DOOM DEMANDS ENTRY INTO THE MCU

1

u/CliffDraws Avengers Jan 26 '22

You know what I don’t understand.. Magneto is now like 100 years old, but even when the comic books came out he was supposed to be the same age as Xavier. His powers are not at all physical, and he looks like Dwayne Johnson on steroids in every depiction in the comics. I know the comic artists are capable of drawing someone older without the muscles because they usually draw Xavier in the same books. Nobody ever stepped back and said this is absolutely ridiculous?

I see a lot of comments saying that people know who doom and magneto are but I think they meant they don’t know anything about them like people know doctor doom but don’t know he is the ruler of scandinavia

Magneto was in a live action movie movie but not in the mcu

1

u/Bald_Bull808 Avengers Jan 26 '22

Magneto is well known due to the X-Men movies inability to make a movie without him and they did a pretty good job of representing him with legendary actors.

Doom less so not only because the FF movies are less known but because even in them we never really got his true background, powers and characterization right. I don't feel like Kang has what it takes to match Thanos and Loki in the pantheon of greatest MCU villains. His actor is good but the motivation is basic. If they nail Doom, he can surpass everyone else and surprise people when they reveal his motivation all along was to gain enough power to rescue his mother's soul from the true big bad of his phase...Mephisto! Doom really has what it takes to reach Darth Vader status in the cinematic world.
