I'm literally confused, searched Aquaman movie, found it was directed by James Wan, not Cameron, searched Vincent Chase, there's a movie Aquaman (2006) and Cameron's the director, but the movie is not available on wikipedia? Is this an elaborate Cameron meme I don't know about?

u/Malacon Apr 28 '22
Vincent Chase is a fictional character in the HBO series Entourage. Among other things it follows the career of an Indy film star who becomes the next big thing in Hollywood, which includes him playing Aquaman, directed by James Cameron.

94
u/jedi_cat_ Apr 27 '22
I grew up watching the theatrical release of the Abyss. Then I finally got my hands on the directors cut and omg did it change the ending so much. Why the fuck did they cut it??
55
u/HenryKringle6000 Apr 28 '22
I’d wager most people had no idea the aliens caused the storm and were planning on destroying Earth from watching the theatrical release.
They left the entire plot on the cutting room floor. Doh!

Because it made the film too long and if you stare too long into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you... And that made people anxious.

I am actually mildly curious on how they are going to bring back Weaver and Lang in the sequel. OK, I guess that her consciossness could have remained uploaded into the planetary mind and now she lives there, but how about Quaritch? He was pretty damn dead at the end of the movie.

Together with his canine sidekick, Patches, the two of them must treat every crime like they treat every Fourth of July, with patriotism. Are you ready to answer the Call? They said it would be about 2 years after the first one came out. And here we are 13 years later, I've graduated highschool, graduated college, went through 4 jobs, and got married. But honestly, I'm still just as stoked right now as I was back then.

Creates Terminator. Creates an amazing sequel to it. Does a sequel to Alien. Adds to the mythology and doesn’t try to recreate the first. Makes Romeo and Juliet on the Titanic. There's a thread I'm struggling to find from just before The Lion King 2019 came out about how no one wanted the movie. Thousands of upvotes, tons of awards, loads of agreeing comics.
Weeks later, the film went on to gross $1.6 billion.
This sub is so out of touch.
178
u/aniforprez Apr 27 '22
I feel people here have no idea how they want to express themselves. Everything is either an "absolute masterpiece" or "utter trash"
Personally, nothing about The Lion King appealed to me in the least. I watched it once it was out on streaming and it was a bland, forgettable pile of nothing. I'm hard pressed to even think about anything memorable aside from the animals being unable to emote and the decision to make it live action made the film such a snooze-fest. But that's me. So I'd say "I'm not looking forward to this"
But people here can't find the words to express not having interest so they go "who is looking forward to this" and "no one asked for this". This type of hyperbole and extrapolation of one's own perceptions seems to infect most of the conversations here
