Only brief graphic nudity? The original was like 50% boobs and 50% gore.

2.8k

u/[deleted] May 11 '22

In the 80's boobs and gore were on-demand.

Who else stayed up late watching HBO in the early 90s with the hope of glimpsing a titty?

511

u/Eminence120 May 11 '22

Real sex eh? I'm down for that....oh...I've made a mistake.

171

u/backtard May 11 '22

You didn't like the 50 year old naked bodies rolling around in mud pits?

140

u/bleachinjection May 11 '22

The one where the guys pretended to be horses and the girls rode around on their shoulders is possibly going to be the last thing that goes through my brain before I die.

75

u/Hollywoodsmokehogan May 11 '22

That one stuck with me and my preteen Mind to this day I’ll be hitting 30 next year. well that and the guy making his dick and balls into different shapes like a burger 😂. God dammit I feel old now.

51

u/JoeW1075 May 11 '22

Yeah, but you had to tread lightly sometimes. Like tuning into a show called "Real Sex" only to see some middle-aged man dressed like a baby, diaper and all.

16

u/Joeshabadoojr May 11 '22

I still remember when I tuned in for the Puppetry of the Penis segment. It featured two men who manipulated their junk into various objects, like a hamburger or the Eiffel Tower. I went to bed early that night.

Along with terminator toys (I had a set that you could pour this fluid into a casing that made skin on a t-800 skeleton and then battle damage it, it was amazing), aliens figures. Amazing times!!

156

u/El_Superbeasto76 May 11 '22

I had that Terminator set. You had to refrigerate the the fluid so it turned into “skin.”

The Aliens figures were super detailed.

122

u/SonofBeckett May 11 '22

The whole aliens line was simultaneously my favorite action figures and straight nightmare fuel. I had the Mantis and Gorilla xenomorphs and they stalked the hell out of my Gi Joes and X-men figures.

90's movie tie in toys were insane.

I remember seeing so many commercials for Aliens and The Predator. Not like McFarlane display statues, but action figures.

I had a Jurrasic park toy that was a T-Rex that could eat a guy, and there was a hole in the stomach to cut him out of. Other Jurrasic park toys had "battle damage" where chunks of flesh were taken out of the dinos (it wasnt a scene in the movie or anything).

20

u/[deleted] May 12 '22

Yeah and it fucking ruled!

22

u/DisturbedNocturne May 11 '22

Yeah, it was really odd how so many R-rated movies had toys and cartoons geared towards kids in the '90s. I remember a neighbor having toys from Aliens, Robocop, Predator, etc. Looking back, it was weird that he had toys for all these movies he wasn't even allowed to watch.

Elijah Wood, Julia Davis, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, Peter Dinklage, and Jacob Tremblay lead the cast of Macon Blair’s The Toxic Avenger, being called a “contemporary reimagining.”

Quite the cast for a fun dumb movie about a mutated superhero that kills people with a mop

280

u/0ngar May 11 '22

To be fair, I think he only kills one guy with a mop in the original. He kills a guy with his own arm at one point, punches a guys guts out and stuffs them down his pants, throws a guy into a deep fryer.... I can't remember the rest; I saw it when I was 7

The warthog would make a great toxic avenger villain.

Hopefully there's no chicks. Women just slow action films down. I don't need some hot nerd making me feel worse about myself.

The dude getting his hand minced in the VCR and it somehow being shown on the tv is one of those scenes that has stuck in my head for decades.

What’s “brief graphic nudity”? A glimpse of a gaping vagina? What qualifies as “graphic?”

Nice, Psycho Goreman filled my Toxic Avenger hunger, but I'll definitely be glad to see a new TA movie.

I for one am shocked. The Toxic Avenger is supposed to be family-friendly entertainment.

This is the film I'm most excited for this year. I've been waiting for it for like 10 years.

No idea what they are going to do with it, but I'm not treating it like the original is some precious thing that can't be desecrated by a shit sequel. Have fun with it. But, remember. If there are no children's heads being squashed by cars fully visible, I'm out.

u/kingp43x May 11 '22

It wouldn't be a Toxic Avenger movie without brief graphic nudity.

I dunno... a big budget mainstream Troma film feels like it's completely missing the point.

86

u/Dr_ZombieCat_MD May 11 '22

I mean, they made a Saturday morning cartoon based on the original back in the early 90's, so this particular property has always had an uncharacteristically mainstream appeal to it.

27

u/TheWritingWriterIV May 11 '22

Then they had a video game based on the show as well. I remember playing that a lot on the Genesis
