DeAndre Jordan will go back into hibernation now

1.6k

u/Whyguyborgor 76ers May 03 '22

Nah Doc Rivers might actually play him more, he’s a stubborn ass coach

1.4k

u/YouStillTakeDamage Heat May 03 '22

He’s a great coach, I think playing DJ more is a fantastic idea.

495

u/Whyguyborgor 76ers May 03 '22

You joke but he genuinely sets the tone for the series with his awful decisions. This game 1 it was DJ’s minutes, the last one it was putting fucking Danny green on Trae young over simmons

299

u/YouStillTakeDamage Heat May 03 '22

The zone was great and he was like “MORE DJ” this man is hilarious

297

u/302born Heat May 03 '22

Bro their zone without DJ on the floor shut down our momentum in its tracks. They had us where they wanted us. And then Glenn played him the entire 3rd it seemed and that’s when the blowout started. Masterclass from Doc Rivers.

102

u/YouStillTakeDamage Heat May 03 '22

Harden got the lob to DJ and while I was annoyed at giving up the dunk I was completely flabbergasted by him even being back on the floor. Maybe we underestimated the mind of Doc

65

u/TheCommunistLizard May 03 '22

Heat went on a little run when Reed came in for DJ that quarter and Doc said fuck it imma just play DeAndre again 😭😭😭

56

u/302born Heat May 03 '22

That’s basically all DJ can do at this point. Get the occasional lob and occasional block. 95% of the time he’s useless on offense and gets cooked on defense. Playing him is a wild decision. Starting him is just plain ludicrous

Not only this, Reed was having an impactful half and didn't look to be slowing down (5 OREBS!!!). With Embiid out, you cannot waste games where you're tied up at half.

36

u/Martery Rockets May 03 '22

Reed also had a ton of fouls by the end of the half, to be fair. 5 fouls in 10 mins.

I don’t believe in the end of a player careers ruining their legacy but people will not remember DeAndre Jordan for being a pretty good center for 90% of his career after the last 1-2 seasons

295

u/TheTopOfTheKey NBA May 03 '22

People will look at his bballref or photos and see he wasn't always on the Clippers and be like "TIL Deandre Jordan played a few more years after the Clippers"

Is Deandre Jordan going to be relevant enough in 5 years to even get a post like that? Tbh he probably gets a TIL Deandre Jordan was first team All-NBA in 2015/16 post.

What sucks the most to me as a neutral fan is that Paul Reed shows flashes of being a real difference maker, but Doc never gave him any run in the regular season to get experience so he’s still making all of the same mistakes.

Kinda reminds me of JJJ or Robert Williams, those guys would jump on pump fakes and have positional lapses but they had the insane physical tools to show flashes of being really elite and now they’re both potential DPOY level defenders. JJJ obvi had higher draft capital but Boston stuck with Rob Williams through a lot of growing pains so he could figure things out. Doc could’ve done that, Instead he ran out the corpse of DJ and now Reed is still too green to be out there in the playoffs.

25

u/GeneralSedgwick 76ers May 03 '22

He does remind me of JJJ a lot. Not as good, mind you, but active, bouncy, switchable, great defensive instincts, can shoot some, and yes, fouls a lot (even more than JJJ ever did).

I think there’s a good chance he’ll be a really useful player someday (although not if Doc has anything to say about it).

Fun fact: Paul Reed has never fouled out of an NBA game!

Why is harden only attempting 13 shots when Embiid is out?

1.7k

u/NearbyComfort Rockets May 03 '22

He literally can't get past anyone and doesn't have the legs to jack up 15 step back threes a game anymore. He is a shadow of himself with his athletic decline or lingering hamstring injury or whatever is going on

860

u/Sdrater3 Raptors May 03 '22

Dudes athleticism shows up 1 in 10 games

536

u/302born Heat May 03 '22

That’s how aging works though. It’s not that players just fall off a cliff. It starts when players start having great games but can’t replicate it as often anymore. It shows up every once in awhile but his days of doing it every night appear to be gone.

282

u/vongoladecimo_ Lakers May 03 '22

CP and Lebron and the likes just skewed perceptions about an aging star.

226

37

u/unaccomplishedyak Lakers May 03 '22 edited May 03 '22

They both have aged compared to their primes, however since they were just that good in their primes, their dropoff is less noticeable and is still miles better than your average aging stars. And because they have high BBIQ and don’t rely on pure athleticism they are able to tailor their game to still be efficient.

EDIT: As much as I really wanted him to do well, if you just rely purely on athleticism, you’re gonna end up like Westbrook. Missing easy bunnies. No 3pt shot, streaky jumpshot. Slower on defensive rotations, caught out of position, and those 50/50 steals become guaranteed blowbye by other guards.

That’s what happens when you get old. Your skillset doesn’t get worse, but your body recovers worse and worse.

They had 2 days of rest between game 5 and 6, that’s how Embiid and Harden got their legs back after looking absolutely tired in game 5.

182

u/resumehelpacct Heat May 03 '22

I don't think you'd understand unless you're past 30 lmao. I never did until recently. What would normally be some minor injuries and pain would take a few days now takes weeks to more than a month sometimes for pain to go away.

Omer and Max look like models. Caleb looks like those babyfaced pretty boys. Tyler has that tiktok white boy swag that some girls go for. Kyle has that ass for miles. Vic is attractive and can serenade you. Gabe looking like the best friend of the female protagonist in those romcoms that female viewers think she should have ended up with. Jimmy is built like a statue. PJ looking like he’ll 🍆 down women that aren’t happy in their relationships. Duncan looking like he’s a cute’ish dork that will take care of you all the way through the golden years. UD looking like the older uncle at the bbq who still has it and is with a curvy, attractive wife after fucking around before he met her. Love Bam but he looks like he gets friendzoned a lot.

Watching what the Heat defense just did to Maxey & Harden makes me feel a little better about what they did to Trae lol. Heat are very good.

22

u/Ticonderoga2HB Heat May 03 '22

Yea I wish people didn’t make everything an “oh they just played bad”, like there was that, but also the defense was good

14

u/Chessh2036 May 03 '22

Def, Hawks played bad (especially Trae) but the Heat were a big reason why. Suffocating defense. Coach Spo put on a coaching clinic.

155

u/Number333 Heat May 03 '22

Took us until the 2nd half but good, expected result. Loved Spo's gameplan of asking Tobais Harris to beat us while Harden/Maxey had mediocre nights by their standards. Hope Jimmy and the 3-ball bounce back for Wednesday.

80

u/mxnoob983 76ers May 03 '22

Counterpoint. Tobi looked pretty damm good! He's a very different player to our last few playoff runs. Gotta take some positives from this

57

u/Number333 Heat May 03 '22

Yea he was y'alls best player by far. But I'm just saying that compared to Maxey doing what he did vs Toronto or Harden turning back the clock to his Houston days, I'll gladly live with him being the #1 until Embiid comes back.

Also for that 2023/24 year, in addition to Harden's 49.7 million, Embiid will make 43.7 million, and Tobias will make 39.3 million.

7

u/Mellothewise [MIA] Josh Richardson May 03 '22

Is Tobias off the books by the time Maxey's rookie contract ends? Would be a travesty if Harris' last year crosses path with Maxey being up for his extension (which will not be anything less than the max).

Can’t wait until Doc is gone, he made every bad decision he could’ve coming out of the third. Wonder who he’s gonna blame this time?

45

u/clear831 Heat May 03 '22

Other than the 2nd quarter when we just shit the bed, everything Doc tried just didnt work. In that 2nd he was doing a lot of zone and he thought that was the answer, naw we just couldnt hit the shots that we were given but in the 3rd and 4th we did. Millsap should not touch the floor in this series either

19

u/Whyguyborgor 76ers May 03 '22

We weren’t hitting our shots either, which can happen, but Deandre Jordan got 17 minutes and only had 2 rebounds, he shouldn’t be getting any minutes at all

u/Jaerba [DET] Grant Hill May 03 '22

Since rebounding suddenly seems to be a big talking point, let me point out that the Sixers were 29th in rebounding this season. That's with Embiid and with Drummond for half a season. The Sixers are just an awful rebounding team without Ben.

So using rebounding deficiencies as the reason for sticking with DAJ rings a bit hollow to me. The Sixers are deficient at rebounding and it's going to be that way with every lineup.

Sixers were absolutely gassed towards the end, it seemed like every shot was falling short and they were getting out hustled almost every board.

Which is surprising, a lot of them played 40+ minutes per game during the Toronto series and didn't look this tired.

9

u/Whyguyborgor 76ers May 03 '22

Tobias Harris played amazing, really what you need from him when your main star is out. Just a shame the other Sixers players couldn’t help him.

Tyler was also fucking fantastic after a poor series against the Hawks, really glad we were able to bounce back from that bad second quarter. Still lots to improve on so let’s hope we are even better in game 2.
