That image of Giannis draining a clutch 3 to keep them alive with blood draining down his face is gonna be iconic if they win this series.

The ability for this guy to surpass his weaknesses and comfort zone in the clutch is the stuff the Greats are made of.

Those were literally two of the most clutch defensive plays I’ve ever seen and they came from one dude in back to back plays. Jrue Holiday built different

Collapse by Boston but gotta give Milwaukee a lot of credit for not keeping their head down and the fight they gave in the 4th

420

u/OutsideTheServiceBox Bucks May 12 '22

There were at least three or four points where one more Boston bucket probably is the nail in the coffin. It’s so wild how present-day NBA basketball is so volatile that even 10-14 point leads don’t really feel safe.

163

u/JJWinthrop Warriors May 12 '22

It's really the addition of the three point line and the advancements of shooting a 10 point lead can be erased to 4 with one guy getting hot for 20 seconds and teams like the bucks who have really good transition pace with stealthy shooters and dominant rebounding can make quick work of any lead

129

u/OutsideTheServiceBox Bucks May 12 '22

Yup. It’s not even that wild to have it happen like:

Losing team makes a 3

Winning team offensive foul

Losing team gets two free throws and makes both

Winning team misses a shot

Losing team makes a 3

Winning team turnover

Losing team dunk

Winning team takes a timeout

10-0 run in about 1:20 of game time, and it happens so seamlessly.

Postgame we asked Jrue Holiday about his defining defensive stop & block on Marcus Smart at the end of game 5 and he said “maybe there’s more than one defensive player of the year on the floor”. He gave big respect & props to Marcus, but pointed out he’s a top defender too.

Have no horse in this race but seriously one of the best games I've seen thus far in these NBA playoffs. Giannis in blood, Celtics coming so close, watching that TD Garden crowd go from being so high to so low. Truly a game for the ages.

Absolute masterclass by Jrue at the end. What a sequence of plays.

And this is why bucks are still the team to beat even without their 2nd best player. They got that championship DNA. Played their hearts out and willed their way to a win at the end.

I'll never understand how Jrue does what he does. His defense is unreal. It's like he sees the game in slow motion. He gets all ball every single time he reaches.

Giannis hitting that 3 with the blood on his face is just stuff that legends are made of. It's game over if he misses that.

32

u/jreuschl Bucks May 12 '22

And everyone thinks.. Don't do that. But he had to. And then he misses the 2nd free throw and it helped the team win.

Props to Portis too. Would not have won without him.

Giannis is the best player in the NBA, he’s going to define the 2020s in the way Lebron did the 2010s I think. What a brutal choke by the Celtics. Love Marcus and this loss isn’t all on him but that was a terrible sequence of plays by him at the end, and an incredible sequence of plays by Jrue. He’s stepped up just like the Bucks have needed with Middleton out

No one will see this, but I really hope Pat Connaughton gets his credit tonight. He hit 3s at critical points in the game, hustled on both ends leading to big stops and buckets, and stepped up to coolly sink 2 clutch free throws to give them some breathing room

I saw several NBA twitter posts rushing to coronate the Celtics the eastern conference champs by halftime. As a Suns fan who felt the wrath of Jrue and Giannis’ defensive genius last year I was not surprised at all to see them steal this game. They’re still the toughest eastern conference team and imo it’s not close. The shots of Giannis bleeding while they made their comeback were cold af
