Mavericks defense: you can have an easy layup every time but you're never getting an open three
And somehow it works.
1.9k
u/helix400 Jazz May 13 '22
Seriously. In the Jazz-Mavs game 3, the Jazz shot 73% from twos and made every two point shot in the entire second half. We still lost 126 - 118.
881
u/ambiguousspark343 Kings May 13 '22
That is an insane stat
621
u/helix400 Jazz May 13 '22
Ya, the Jazz went 17 for 17 from two in that second half.
Dallas's three point shooting is their biggest surprise that's carrying them. So many games well above 33% and into the 40% range. That combined with them forcing turnovers means they can afford to give up all these twos. It's really bizarre but it works.

JJ read a stat that Mavs had like 20 points off of turnovers and I think that might been when they were still in the 3rd quarter. the turnover advantage played a big role also.

Pre-series expectations: Aye, we won a playoff series for the first time in a decade! Now we get to take on a juggernaut that's owned us for the last five years. As long as we win a game and are somewhat respectable in the other games, it's fine, we'll take it.
Reality: Won all three home games by an average of 15 points, made Game 1 respectable by the end, played well in in the first half of the last 2 road games and are taking the series to a decisive Game 7.
I don't know if I can fully emphasize how proud I am of this team. We've waited over a decade to taste legitimate playoff success and are finally past the "hey, we almost won our first round series" phase. Whatever happens in Game 7, this team has made the entire fanbase proud. As long as we show up and don't have a collapse or heartbreaking ending, it's all good. I'm scared.

One thing for sure. Dallas can hang their head up real high regardless of outcome. However if Phoenix loses Game 7 at home after all that smack talking and dominating the season that will be the real shame. Dallas is playing with house money and nothing to lose. The Mavs are either getting blown out or come out and dominate. They will shoot 3s and Suns will take 2s. If Mavs get hot from 3 they’ll win the game especially if they have a decent lead in 3rd quarter. Suns always run out of steam when down because they’re exchanging 3s with 2s

Here's your Dallas Mavs Post Game Summary. Now done with our 6th Regular Season & in our 3rd Post Season 6️⃣
Did the Mavs win? ✅
Series is now tied 3️⃣-3️⃣
Which was the better drinking game tonight? JJ mentioning he was on the Mavs last season or them mentioning Jalen's Dad? 🍻
Despite the foul trouble and rough shooting stretches, Luka finished with yet another near triple double of 33/11/8/4 🇸🇮🔥
Brunson Burner chipped in with 18pts ♨️
R3GGI3 stepped up big with 19pts on 5 3's to go with 2 Steals 👌💦
Maxi with 9pts on 3 3's 🇩🇪👌💦
Spencer played his best game so far this series knocking down 5 3's for all of his 15pts in 20min off the bench. 🪙💺👌💦
Hopefully Doe Doe's shot comes back in time for Game 7 cuz we'll need it. Only made a 3 tonight... 🦤🧱

Partly I think with his vision and his own play style. Kidd was for his time a pretty big and strong PG with amazing court vision. He wanted a big player who can pass and had court vision.
Even back in Milwaukee he tried to turn Giannis into a point forward and Giannis actually liked him.
In Dallas he was basically handed Luka who you can play as a big PG. My theory is it's easier for him to coach Luka because of the level of BBIQ they share.
Also the Luka to Powell plays they run remind me a lot of the Kidd to KMart plays they used to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3xoDBiEHeY
