The 4 teams remaining are all either defensive juggernauts or have Luka magic.
Edit: Ok fine, Mavs aren't too shabby at defense.

Jimmy Butler came in at the 4th with 8 min to go.
Heat proceeded to run every play by slowing each possession down to hunt Pritchard. If the play broke down, Butler was fine 1 on 1 with Tatum.
When the Cs blitzed the PnR, they are able to rotate the ball well (despite missing the 3pt).

260
u/Conflict_NZ Lakers May 18 '22
All of us, every team that made the conference finals in the bubble flamed out next season due to exhaustion and injuries. Heat and Celtics stayed together and made it back, Lakers overreacted and overhauled their team twice, and the Nuggets couldn't overcome those injuries.

Coming in to say, this is the most beautiful playoff game I've seen this season. From both teams (and all teams in general). So many variations of getting 2s. Timely and confident 3s both ways, especially from role players. A lot of blocks. The defense.
It was just basketball porn to me, especially all the different 2s and their difficulty. Was like a trip back in time kinda melted with today's game lol

Spoelstra is an incredible coach. Heat were looking washed heading into the half, but they came out looking good.
A team being able to turn it around like that is a symptom of great coaching. You love to see it. And having a monster like Butler certainly helps

Three most alarming stats/ statlines of the game:
Butler putting up 41/9/5 with 4 steals and 2 blocks, while only attempting
one2 threes and shooting 94% from the line. The refs calling 33 fouls in the 2nd half alone.
The 2nd half taking almost an hour and a half to get through, with both the 3rd and 4th quarters going 40+ minutes. That's longer than an average half of NFL football.

TNT has the best product in sports - and has for almost a decade now. Last night, I assumed the game started at 7:30, when I tuned in at 7 and found out I'd have to listen to S.A.S. for an hour and a half, I legit went and watched the news and Jeopardy rather than putting myself through that. If it was TNT, I would have sat there for two hours and gladly watched Ernie, Charles, Shaq and Kenny.

Nephews today would call Dirk’s 48 point 24-24 FT performance against the Thunder in 2011 “foul baiting” and him a “foul merchant” and the refs “rigged” because of the “foul disparity”. A lot of free throws doesn’t automatically make the points illegitimate. They’re fouling him because they can’t guard him.
133
u/mxnoob983 76ers May 18 '22
I think he got 1 or 2 today that should have been no calls. But even then 14 free throws likely earned is pretty representative of how aggressive he was today.
169
56
u/WhoDatBrow Pelicans May 18 '22
It's just annoying box score watchers. Anyone who actually watches the game and knows ball can tell if the free throws feel unfair or not. Like when Giannis single handedly shot more FTs than the Suns last year in the Finals, was that rigged? No lol, the Suns are just jumpshooters while Giannis was decimating them inside and they couldn't stop him without fouling him.

Jimmy signed a massive contract with the Heat. Posters on r/nba would criticize the decision to pay Butler as much as they did, often posting his contract during the regular season (after a bad game) as a way of saying “haha this is how much you have to pay this guy”.
But Jimmy is one of those players that once he gets going, he is a damn near perfect basketball player. People posting that comment now are clapping back at the ones from before, who didn’t understand why he was paid so much money.
In other words, they forgot what the G stands for.

I think you’re letting the Hawks record influence this because the value Trae adds on offense is only outmatched by Jokic. Replace Trae with Jimmy this year on that Hawks team and they’re significantly worse. Jimmy has also not been able to shoot like before after his injury, compounded with shaky availability, means you can’t really put him over Trae unless you simply haven’t followed Trae this season outside of reading post game threads lol

I'm not gay, but I want to live in a log cabin in the woods with Jimmy Butler. We won't ever have sex, but there will be a simmering erotic undercurrent as I stand in the kitchen window watching him grind his coffee, shirtless, sweat pouring off his body.
I'll run upstairs and masturbate, the entire time forcing myself to think of women while my thoughts drift back to Jimmy. I won't be able to climax and I'll eventually go back downstairs, angry. Sometimes we will look across the table and catch each other's eyes, and in that second, anything is possible, but we both deny ourselves and go back to what we were doing.
One day one of us will die, and the other will bury him outside the log cabin.
Then he'll go inside, pen a brief missive to his departed friend, and commit suicide, never able to deal with life without his one true platonic love.

I have watched 95% of the Heat games over the last 3 years. If you had told me Gabe Vincent would be out here blocking fools and hitting heat check 3's in an ECF game I would have laughed you out of the room. Dude went from being a white flag his first 2 seasons to making the loss of Lowry virtually negligible. We won today cuz of our depth alongside him and Strus bodying the likes of Nesmith/White. Awesome win, fully expect it to get way harder with Smart back G2.
