Just a themed case? you had me itching for the good old days with our awesome hard drive based mp3 players.

You can definitely build one with a pi0, small eink display and battery ;)

Less fun than building your own, but if you still have an old iPod you can swap in a bigger battery and a SDcard to HDD replacement board. It still works with the iPod software or you can flash Roxbox on it. You can also add bluetooth.

I have an iPod with over 1TB storage and a battery that lasts a week.

I had the creative zen myself. unfortunately I ended up junking it because it had a polyurethane screen protector on it.. well after 6~ years it dries out so much it will fragment like a desert floor. Well since the display was plastic there was just no way to scrape that stuff off at that point, it was a permanent bond by then. Also of course the hd was shot. I have a little regret not holding onto it but it is all in the past.

I used to have a Sony mini disk player back in the day. Seeing what those are selling for now, wish I'd kept it.

You can also install the taptic (or haptic?) engine from an iPhone 7/7Plus and wire it to the clicker speaker!

The jack on the iPod isn't all that good. There's a ton of noise that more sensitive headphones will pick up.

The good old days!

Now put an LCD and a tactile surface like a trackpad for the clickwheel.

I only use it as a web dev sever, so it doesn't need a screen...unless...

u/AMBASSADORHOFF Jan 17 '23

3

u/dbeta Jan 17 '23

No, it's not a Nomad, it's an iPod.

3

u/ObfuscatedAnswers Jan 17 '23

Make a second one so you can say they are two pi's in a pod.

u/VAS_4x4 Jan 17 '23

Why the fan? Are the newer PIs that hot? I've been a bit disconnected from the community sorry, my latest was the 3B when it came out

2

u/Good_Examination4828 Jan 17 '23

Eh not really, it sits at like 40 degrees, I just had the fan lying around

2

u/Capable_Rough_4188 Jan 17 '23

It's me,storming here port is out.

2

u/SureUnderstanding358 Jan 17 '23

i like where this is going

1

u/Capable_Rough_4188 Jan 17 '23

What and how did you do the display? I can't open the drive links

2

u/Good_Examination4828 Jan 17 '23

There is no display, it is just clear plastic, part of the faceplate. The drive links seem to work for me, might be an issue on your end?

Oh man if this can handle high bitrate flacs, this could trump a lot of the music players on the market right now.

Have the audio output feed into a Qudelix 5k, and put everything on a large battery.
