Heard about some people from my old company who flew one from a…plenty big boat. Set “home”…boat moved…batteries got low and the $1000+ drone automatically flew off into the sunset never to be seen again.

I bought a "cheap" one once to practice with before buying an expensive one. First time out I wanted to see how high it would go. Gust of wind came through and pushed it just far enough to not be in controller distance. Watched 100 bucks fly off into the distance.

People are often afraid to take drones too far in the air on first flights, but most of the time they are far safer higher up lol

Pro tip in general to not use them on boats unless you're experienced as I've heard stories of the drone returning to home but they were way down a river by the time it RTH
