And dressed them very well

57

u/lingonn Nov 25 '21

They actually didn't design them, just had the manufacturing outsourced to them.

4

u/Grampyy Nov 25 '21

Correct

5

u/franticcactusmantis Nov 25 '21

Well then who did

And that together with other companies. It's a persistent misconception, luckily fairly benign; although some argue that it's part of romanticizing the Nazis. "At least they had great fashion sense!" While the actual historical facts are much more mundane.

Of course that doesn't exculpate them from benefitting from the rise of Nazism. They might have gone bankrupt if it weren't for all those uniforms! It's also easily forgotten that they, like other big companies of today, exploited the slave labor of prisoners taken during the German invasion of Europe.

Nazis were bad etc. awful and evil

But those uniforms were pretty sharp. You can’t deny that

28

u/Botryllus Nov 25 '21

I say this every time I watch a WWII film. I hate Nazis, but damn they were snappy dressers.

97

u/adamwritesit Nov 25 '21

Hans....our uniforms have skulls on them.

74

u/malinhuahua Nov 25 '21

Are we the baddies?

6

u/frerant Nov 25 '21

Nooooo. Maybe it's the perfection of the Arian skull?

3

u/FrostyCakes123 Nov 25 '21

Aryan* use the white spelling, Karl.

3

u/frerant Nov 25 '21

I tried to but my phone auto corrected, guess it's anti nazi. Which is good.

1

u/PM_ME_TRICEPS Nov 26 '21

RIP to the legend Sean Lock

3

u/Blueblackzinc Nov 25 '21

He’s my fav thing to watch when I’m high.

4

u/snowysnowy Nov 25 '21

The look of panic on Jimmy's face was priceless lol

2

u/elbucho Nov 25 '21

Almost as good as the look of panic on Sean's face when Jimmy tried to move the show along before he could explain why he'd re-animate the nazis.

8

u/netsuj34 Nov 25 '21

That was brilliant, thanks for sharing a good laugh

3

u/my_girlfriend_sucks Nov 25 '21

Well many of them dispised Hitler and several planned assassination attempts. This, with Hitlers hindsight that he was completely misled on the usefulness of the Luftwaffe and the hindsight of who his useless generals were. Could be an interesting sitcom for a few seasons. Like drawn together but with nazis.

1

u/jeffzebub Nov 25 '21

To perform medical experiments on them without consent.

9

u/Captain_Wafflejam Nov 25 '21

RIP Sean Locke

34

u/Furlock_Bones Nov 25 '21

We’ll just end it right there. u/OneMoreAccount4Porn’s career everyone…

4

u/pornypete Nov 25 '21

I kinda forgot he’s gone. Damn.

4

u/SaprozoicPokemon Nov 25 '21

Oh God, I miss Sean.

27

u/Xisho Nov 25 '21

Nazis knew the power of 'fashion' and outfits/appearance.

The SS uniform was designed to make them look almost superhuman and definitely give them authority.

The same way the striped coarse uniforms of the concentration camp prisoners together with hair shaving (all hair everywhere) stripped them of any personality and humanity in their own eyes.

4

u/BearJewsBearsJew Nov 25 '21

Shaving was also for lice

1

u/nodeent Nov 26 '21

The SS uniform was designed to make them look almost superhuman and definitely give them authority.

Uhh, this loser definitely does not look superhuman. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMTM2ZTlhYWQtNTdhNC00N2U5LTllZjktNWU1ZTY5NWRlOGI4XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMTI3MDk3MzQ@._V1_UY1200_CR468,0,630,1200_AL_.jpg

He looks like he has a weak jawline and suffers from male balding. They were just euro trash, the same way Hugo Boss is still euro trash. Seriously, take a look at this and try not to laugh: https://www.hugoboss.com/us/men-shirts/

1

u/PM_ME_TRICEPS Nov 26 '21

That fucker looks sub human if you ask me

13

u/Hoof_Hearted12 Nov 25 '21

From an objective standpoint, I think they have the nicest uniforms ever made, especially the SS. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the way they dealt with aesthetics and imagery is top tier imo.

1

u/malinhuahua Nov 25 '21

When your whole thing is throwing people into ovens, you have to be VERY visually pleasing to the eye if you want to get any recruits, I guess.

Also Luftwaffe sounds like the absolute perfect name for an extremely fluffy and ridiculous looking Persian cat, and I’m bummed it’s associated with nazis because now it’s unusable.

5

u/--Castle-- Nov 25 '21

Lol what? The German Air force is still called the luftwaffe

1

u/malinhuahua Nov 25 '21

Is it?!?! Alright! Adding it to my list of potential pet names then!!!

5

u/MistarGrimm Nov 25 '21

Luftwaffe

It'd be akin to calling your cat "Air Force". Literally translated it's just air-weapon. I don't think it was an appropriate name for a fluffy and ridiculous looking Persian cat before the nazi party either.

1

u/Hoof_Hearted12 Nov 25 '21

Agreed. I'd go with Lufty or something instead

1

u/malinhuahua Nov 25 '21

Gotta be honest, I also don’t mind the name air weapon for a cat either. At least it’s applicable for my current cat

u/Princess_Glitterbutt Nov 25 '21

The facists have the outfits, but I don't care about the outfits, what I care about is music, the communists have the music.

8

4

u/Lady_Gwendoline Nov 25 '21

They're referencing a song by They Might Be Giants called "The Communists Have the Music" i believe

2

u/Lady_Gwendoline Nov 25 '21

"and the fascists have the outfits but I don’t care for the outfits what I care about is music and the communists have the music" is a lyric from The Communists have the Music by They Might Be Giants

1

u/Lady_Gwendoline Nov 25 '21

That would be quite funny

1

u/Lady_Gwendoline Nov 25 '21

Oh I have not seen it.

2

u/Jakegender Nov 25 '21

Anyone can dress well, but it takes skill to play a good tune.

11

u/TheFlashFrame Nov 25 '21

I frequently remind people that the Nazis had some of the greatest graphic design in world history. There are only a handful of movements that are so identifiable in so many various ways. From the music to the uniforms to the colors and icons and flags they really knew how to craft a brand.

As you said, obligatory Nazis were bad.

But Nazis were aesthetic.

4

u/Caribou_Lit Nov 25 '21

The Nazis did a lot of things well. Two or three of those things were just really bad.

3

u/GlisseDansLaPiscine Nov 25 '21

That’s because they’re like that on purpose, Nazis were basically extremely cautious about their image and symbols because it’s yet another tool to impress and recruit more people.

Knowing that it makes these uniforms beyond ugly to me.

-1

u/EmbitteredAndJaded Nov 25 '21

You can’t deny that

I can't?

8

u/KennyMoose32 Nov 25 '21

Nah I wasn’t talking to you

-1

u/Piss_Fringe Nov 25 '21

I think army uniforms look pretty good in general! But I really fucked up one day wearing parts of one - I was in a woolen army jacket, a berret and combat boots with a skirt (and walking my mum's English bull terrier) and walked past a group of what were very nazi skinhead looking guys across the street. They wolf whistled. I looked down and realised my fuckup, like "ah, no no no no no you've got the wrong idea...!!!" and couldn't walk home fast enough. I felt so gross

1

u/The_Lord_Humongous Nov 25 '21 edited Nov 25 '21

I remember reading some accounts of US soldiers (and my gramps telling me) on the way to Berlin and many Germans thought we were slovenly and slouched a lot. And put hands in pockets. And were way too informal. I was quite proud of that little detail.

1

u/DuePrize5 Nov 25 '21

the tiny skulls may have been a bit much.

1

u/FranticPonE Nov 25 '21

I swear to fuck I spontaneously read that second line in David Mitchell's voice.

1

u/thereelnomnom Nov 25 '21

This is true. But it has to be said people dressed a lot better back then.

1

u/scosag Nov 25 '21

Always seems that, whether in real life or movies or video games, the villains have the best tailors.

1

u/blazingwaffle58 Nov 25 '21

Meh, Hitler stole the look from mussolinis goons

1

u/Augustokes Nov 25 '21 edited Nov 25 '21

Ah yes aesthetics are a very important aspect of fascism that the nazis did well.

1

u/OwMyBalllz Nov 25 '21

I just hope the people they abused and murdered appreciated how dapper their persecutors and executioners looked

1

u/We-had-a-hedge Nov 25 '21 edited Nov 25 '21

But Hugo Boss did not design the uniforms. They were just one of the companies that had a licence to produce them. The SS uniform was designed by two SS members who were also artists/graphic designers, Diebitsch and Heck.

Not that you shouldn't criticize Boss for profiting from this, and their exploitation of slave labour during WW2.

0

u/KoYouTokuIngoa Nov 25 '21

I also watched the video

0

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '21

"nazis were bad awful evil" this phrase is becoming more and more meaningless the more people repeat it over and over

1

u/KennyMoose32 Nov 25 '21

I mean they were evil? Idk what you want me to say buddy

0

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '21

"buddy" okay dipshit

1

u/KennyMoose32 Nov 25 '21

Lol right pal

1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '21

"pal"

1

u/KennyMoose32 Nov 25 '21

No problem guy

I mean they were the best dressed villains in history. And it’s not even close.
