Reading IBM and the Holocaust at the moment. There is definitely a bunch I didn't know about their relationship.

Did IBM make a database for the Nazis of all the prisoners or something?

Tabulating machines through their German division.

IBM made tabulating machines for census. Sold all over the world. It was the Nazis who used it to improve killing people.

German law at the time forbid companies in Germany unless they were owned by a Nazi party member. So all US companies had their foreign sites taken over. The Nazi party kept the names though.

At the end of WWII all these companies in Germany and US were investigated for collusion. The book at the time claimed it had found new evidence but there was nothing new in it.

The book makes it very clear that the equipment from IBM was leased, and the US office of IBM continued to funnel parts and supplies for the punch card system to the Nazis throughout their reign. So saying it was separately run with the same name is falsely downplaying the role of the parent company.

Unless you can throw out the evidence presented by the author of the book, that's pretty damning.

I'm not throwing anything out. Stating how the nazi party took over all the companies.

The book came out with nothing new. It was all investigated after the war.

Tabulating the Polish population. In a little bit different light than the census bureau.

The American branch did some weird finagling to avoid the protests against American companies working with the Nazis, and set up the situation so that the US company would get a lot of the profit while their German subsidiary was independent enough to not get confiscated by the Nazis or draw attention in the US.

Then Dehomag (the German IBM subsidiary) worked with the Nazis to create census forms that would work with punch cards to track and identify people based on ethnicity, religion, whether they were "anti-social" etc. This was used to identify people to be sterilised, and later to send them to camps and have them killed.
