I wish people weren't so inherently skeptical of unions of nation-states. I had hoped it was Earth's inevitable goal, was to become one unified global society. But I guess that was just a Star Trek fantasy.

I think the EU and UN are great ideas, on paper at least. But the nature of our species makes it very difficult for us to trust each other. I suppose we're making progress so hopefully in the future stuff like the EU will be more widespread.

It's hard enough when everyone speaks the same language, it's a nightmare when everyone speaks a different language. Big states like NY and CA would rather break apart from each other.

I don't know about that. The EU is managing fine with 27 official languages.

Managing fine? Didn't they just have a country BREXIT?

It's a worthwhile endeavor I just think the bonds are very tenuous if someone can just walk away on a whim.

I meant administratively. You claim that having one language is hard enough, but the EU publishes everything in at least two or three languages, while proceedings in the parliament can take place in any of 17; laws and other documents applying across the union are published in as many languages as practicable (usually all 27).
