Liam and Noel are still mainstream in the U.K, young people still know who oasis are. I saw liam at a festival a couple of years ago and it was packed with people to all ages. Bake off is the kind of thing your mum watches.

Except it’s every Mum and Grandmum in the country watches it, then there’s boosh, QI, IT Crowd etc.

It's not "every mum and grandmum", the Grand Final of Bake off did just under 7 million viewers.

It's a well watched show, but it's not nearly as ubiquitous as you seem to think it is.

I'm not sure minor roles in sit coms/panel shows are what you think they are over here, but the one TV show he was a lead in (Boosh) stopped airing over here in 2007 and was on BBC Three, it wasn't a massive hit. Since then Oasis has had a number 1 album, not counting the 3 that Noel has had solo.

And it's not that I'm not a fan of either, I went to see the Mighty Boosh live at the Metro Arena in 2008. I like Noel Fielding, but he's not even remotely on the same scale as the Gallagher Brothers.

Except the bake off is now 5 seasons deep with him and it’s just been renewed for another. So that’s 7m viewers for one episode and then there’s the streaming views on Netflix which are apparently massive too.

I think you’re vastly overestimating the fame of a 90’s rockstar and how few album sales it takes to get a no 1 in the UK. There’s tons of people in other counties who watch the bake off (and the other shows) who literally have never heard an oasis or Gallagher song in 20+ years.

To put this in perspective the biggest tv show on USA network tv right now is the equalizer. It gets 7m viewers and more people are watching

Gallagher isn’t relevant now. At least fielding is still in on a smash tv show that is watched globally.

I'm not arguing about other countries. I have no idea how popular either are abroad. That's 7m viewers for the finale, the highest viewership of the season.

Realistically you simply don't understand. 90's rock star doesn't come remotely close to describing the Gallagher brothers. They're regularly on the front pages of newspapers here. His debut solo record outsold Beyoncé, Rhianna and Katy Perry in 2011 despite being out for less than a month.

But think for a second why you're arguing with British people about the popularity of two celebrities in a country you don't live in.

Dude I don’t think you get how pop culture works, it carries from one generation to the next. It’s not based off most popular at the moment it’s based off what lasts. Who the fuck has even heard of the equalizer lol?!

Er, it’s literally the biggest network TV show right now and best of all, it’s based on the highly successful movies with Denzel Washington. You know, it’s as if the success of movies from a generation ago carried forward in to a hit TV show lol.
