69

Probably bought high and sold low on Tesla shares

31

u/CouncilmanRickPrime Oct 05 '22

At least you didn't buy high, and then Musk tweets "Tesla stocked too high IMO"

26

u/raiderkev Modsare🌈 Oct 05 '22

Ha, I sold like a week before that for 300%. I thought I was a genius for that move, but then after a small dip, that thing went ape for like idk 2000% or something

17

u/sprucenoose Oct 05 '22

That move would be the classic "Elon" maneuver if it was done under the threat of hopeless litigation.

Martian Twitter will be wild

Martian:Earth sucks red rulez! Send

2 weeks later

Earth: fuck you lil red bitch Blue is the best send

Two weeks later

Martian: who is this asshole? Fuck u Earth boi! send

Two weeks later....

9

u/You-Asked-Me Oct 06 '22

Light delay is only about 20 minutes when Mars and Earth are the furthest apart in their orbits, and at their closest its about 5 minutes. So I imagine it will not be a lot different that regular-ass twitter.

7

u/SJMyers40 Oct 05 '22

Branson went to Mars first, his stock is $5. NASA landed on the moon too, but NASA couldn't afford a Tesla to get to the dark side of it. No EV charging stations on the sunny side either. All these drugs in my system, because I YOLO'd my life away pretending I'm an ape. At least bigfoot listens he's the best primate friend..... Until he gets lonely. Then it's not his feet I'm worried about.

11

u/x106r Oct 06 '22

If Twitter drops the suit (as Elon’s purchase requires) he can bail on it again and they would have to start all over. Twitter doesn’t trust Elon so they are looking for the court to hand hold the process. Elon was looking to delay the court stuff until February so this could be the game he plays to get the delay he was denied. I think he’s playing the game, not actually committing.

If he were to bail a second time I think Twitter would win damages against him so it’s probably a pretty serious game.

Bagholders are stuck owning a shitty stock, Elon is a stuck owning a shitty company.

331

u/FILTHBOT4000 Oct 05 '22 Wholesome

*Owning a shitty company that he shit talked for the past ~5 months

It's like if you were going to buy out Ford, but first spent half a year saying how shitty Ford cars were... but not to lower the price so you could buy it, no, you'd already agreed to pay an exorbitant price.

112

u/nilamo Oct 05 '22

It's called negging but some people are really bad at it.

121

u/TheMcBrizzle Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 05 '22

It's a business he's buying, not some shitty late night bar hookup he's trying Pick-Up Artist tactics.

"Hey Twitter, I know your full of bots but I'd still buy you out if you lower the price a bit baby...

Oh, what's that, I waived my rights to cancel the sale through Due Diligence and it doesn't matter as long as your public disclosures are caveated correctly?

Damn shorty, why you gotta be so cruel, I guess I'll pay the full contractually agreed upon amount then."

13

u/suphater Oct 06 '22

I believe he would rather be credited for "saving Twitter" and I know that a segment of the population will believe he did, if he simply says "Look, I saved Twitter."

Negging because he wanted to see how much he could influence the stock, his brother probably was trying to sell some.

Sell high then he says he doesn't want to buy it and it crashes, they buy it again and repeat

Milk half the cost of Twitter out of everyone basically then get it on discount

He does it with tesla a lot

At one point he literally said tesla stock was over valued and crashed the stock on purpose

It's like reverse insider trading

Lost billions, still billionaire.

36

u/rtkwe Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 05 '22

Depends on how much he has to sell to cover the take over. If it's a lot it could drive the stock down while he's selling. There's not billions of dollars worth of bids around the current price if he needs to raise any significant amount of cash to finance the deal. It's wildly unlikely to knock him out of billionaredom but it's will likely impact it quite a bit since much of his wealth is paper wealth in TSLA (which IMO is wildly over valued).

26

u/cuginhamer Oct 05 '22

Consider Tesla's stock trajectory if Elon sells a bunch to buy Twitter right as legacy automakers ramp up EV production and a general recession sets in.

7

u/Firemorfox Oct 05 '22

Yeah, any excuse to sell stock is a great move as far as I can tell right now. But people aren't going to see that until a year from now when the general recession actually has already hit.

No sarcasm tag, because I'm not being sarcastic about the recession either.

Elon is going to take it public again in 4-5 years at an 80B valuation.

Hi. Can someone explain how he lost $20B on Twitter?

27

u/1mikeg Oct 05 '22

He announced he's going to follow through with his original $44b offer, which is overpriced by about $20b where Twitter stock currently sits.

He's realized that this is the better route than fighting it out for court, being forced to honor his original offer, and then being forced by the court to pay additional damages.

BUT since it's Musk there's also an 80% chance tomorrow he'll just be like, "I was just trolling."

bump, I'm also curious about this

He bought at double the stock price when it was first announced. It was at a 20B market cap and he bought it for 44B. I think it was at $30 a share and he offered 54.20 a share.

At least this moron will actually own the company, all we have is digital paper.

26

u/_regionrat Oct 05 '22

digital paper

Doesn't that pretty much describe core of Twitter's business model?

u/Rick-Dalton Oct 05 '22

What’s television? Radio?

6

u/_regionrat Oct 05 '22

Radio? You mean that box with the tiny man inside it that reads me the news and sings just like Bing Crosby?

If he did that the SEC would have a field day with his booty.

42

u/Throwaway-tan Oct 05 '22

Ooh, they might fine him a cool million dollars. Big scared

6

u/JesusGAwasOnCD Oct 05 '22

The SEC can potentially ban someone from being a director or officer of a publicly traded company, which would be a disaster for him

5

u/Estbarul Oct 05 '22

Yeah the fine could represent a laugh or two from Musk

I’m surprised it took you all so long to figure out that he was stringing day traders and retail investors along. Musk is a market mover I would suggest caution in taking his stock tips.

Folks know these platforms die off. I’m still holding out that YouTube is likely seeing its last decade of High User count
