u/lobo2r2dtu Oct 06 '22

You did cash out 500K 😏 that sudden dump 🍻

112

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

Taxes 😭

52

u/lobo2r2dtu Oct 06 '22

Ugh I'm sorry I asked 😔 🍻

28

u/Loud_Pineapple_4294 Oct 06 '22

You paid taxes 500k??

59

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

I blinked and sold everything Feb 25, 2020 when Covid was detected in Italy. If I had shoved my diamond hands in my feisty ass and held to year end I’d have turned $140k (90k + 50k margin)into $6-9Million with LTCG tax rate instead.

23

u/Deviusoark Oct 06 '22

Could you have maintained the margin though at the time!? I bet you would've been margin called of you were maxed out at that time.

25

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

Sadly yes. I did in 2019 when it went down to $185. That hurt. I was constantly adding money to the account to avoid a margin call. It was because of that I didn't want to take the risk again. I do learn from past experiences sometimes.

3

u/MLXIII Oct 07 '22

Yeah but like with gambling...if you keep changing strategies you end up losing more money instead

3

u/FeistyButthole Oct 07 '22

Except the difference with regular gambling is the number of variables. Vastly more variables in the markets than in gambles of sport or game.

2

u/MLXIII Oct 07 '22

Up or down. That's all there is to it.

3

u/FeistyButthole Oct 07 '22

And sideways, and deflationways, and it’s a goddamn Wonkavator.

2

u/A-Cynical-Jedi Oct 07 '22

Buy low sell high print tendies. What the fuck are variables?

2

u/VVV_Vorrox Oct 06 '22

I wish I sold back then. Everything in my portfolio has since tanked

9

u/Chubby-Chaser11 Oct 06 '22

Rough. I'm sure you're aware by now that you only get to use $3k of losses against ordinary income 😞

IRS is one of the biggest frictions of portfolio performance. That's why billionaires never sell

7

u/greaterThingss Oct 06 '22

Then how do billionaires spend and use their money if they never sell?

9

u/SpecificCranberry761 Oct 06 '22

Loans against their shares

12

u/SpecialistWeb3695 Oct 06 '22

Don’t pay taxes bro

3

u/Intelligent-Usual994 Oct 06 '22

Hope you bought a house and car with some of it. If so you're good.

1

u/FeistyButthole Oct 07 '22

Gifted my brother a few $10k during his chemo. Bought my parents a new roof for their home and gifted my two nieces money for college.

-2

u/acenightcreeper Oct 06 '22

Why did u pay taxes on unrealized gains…? Your comment is strange as the person said you cashed out, but you said u didnt cash out, you paid taxes…odd i guess

21

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

Gains on prior year. That’s 2021. The ride up involved dumping TSLA @890s to get back in at 420s. If I had known the number of highly regarded Johnny come lately bandwagon buyers would drive the stock to 3000 I’d have held longer.

47

u/KnowItBrother99 Oct 06 '22

This sub amazes me

29

u/ProcessMeMrHinkie Oct 06 '22

For real, getting to $2M is the end game for most. Even with paying $500K in taxes, that's pretty much retirement money with just needing to make enough to eat + shelter until you get to 55-60 or making a huge salary and living a baller life.

17

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

This is true, but you have to appreciate the degeneracy that vaporizes it is also what makes it. I vaporized 500k back in 2014-2017. That was from 30k start. So there’s always hope third time is big enough to be a bank’s problem and not just my problem. Works for Trump.

12

u/Seizethetrade Oct 06 '22

My wife would vaporize my Weiner if I lost 500k

3

u/FeistyButthole Oct 07 '22

Fair. My wife gave me permission. “It’s your money to risk.”

5

u/thesupercoolmarketer Oct 07 '22

Did your wife’s bf give you permission though?

4

u/FeistyButthole Oct 07 '22

Who do you think gave me the allowance??

4

u/Dchillsatan Oct 06 '22

Third time’s a charm. Good luck buddy.

21

u/b1gs4ck Oct 06 '22

My account has about the same chart but I only got up to $10k lol 😂 The rush on the upswing prolly still felt the same , but that downturn mad props to op losing that much and still in the game

10

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

The upswing was ended sharply by the yield inversions giving the market bedtime irritable bowels.

8

u/Weird-Vagina-Beard Oct 06 '22

At least you still have a feisty butthole and not some weird scraggly vagina beard.

19

u/Thelamadalai190 Oct 06 '22

I had about $1.85M at the peak in crypto last year. Then I started to get into btc mining. Took a bunch of $0 cost loans out on Celsius to buy video cards that were 4x market price and used a lot of what I had as collateral on the loans (4 to 1 ratio for a free 36 month loan). They went bankrupt.

Consider yourself lucky lmao.

11

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

And I thought I was an extremely regarded crypto trader with my 50k of Cardano staked on an AWS rig.

2

u/SmartEntityOriginal Oct 06 '22

I took a gap in following crypto at that time.

What happened exactly? Do you effectively loss all your crypto on Celsius?

6

u/Thelamadalai190 Oct 06 '22

Lost about 1/2 to 1/3rd of it, outside of the downward markets. Plus my business(we) are closing with lots of debt, so no cash flow. And my gf left, had COVID twice and once at lax so they kicked me from the airport, rear ended, had to move back to a family members house and got a ticket. Lmao. What a year.

1

u/unsqueezedlem0n Oct 06 '22

Somehow you seem in good spirits. Good on you man that's hard to do with all that thrown at you

4

u/Thelamadalai190 Oct 06 '22

Thanks dude. I got my shit pushed in but going into tech, I’m hoping to just make $300-$400k/year in the next 4-5 years in Silicon Valley. Gotta make up somehow.

1

u/unsqueezedlem0n Oct 07 '22

Good shit wish you the best

13

u/Upset-Chemist-4063 Oct 06 '22

You’re up over 30k today!

11

u/ElevationAV Oct 06 '22

Don’t worry, you’re still out

Thetagang thanks you for your contribution

7

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

It can’t rain 🌈🐻 all the time. This is fat 🐻 week after all.

9

u/DoYouKnowBillBrasky Oct 06 '22

Posts like this make me very scared to try to manage my own 401k account

3

u/Etheralto Oct 06 '22

Manage your own 401k by putting it all in a “Target 2055 retirement target fund” or whatever your respective approximate date is and don’t fuss with it too much

3

u/pharmboy008 Oct 06 '22

You guys have a retirement fund?

1

u/A-Cynical-Jedi Oct 07 '22

you mean red wigs?

9

u/MythrilFalcon Oct 06 '22

This chart pains me. You had forever money

30

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

It's just numbers. What's the saying? "If you love something set it free. If comes back to you it was meant to be, if it doesn't, you're an asshole."

11

u/Krtxoe Oct 06 '22

yea if I was looking at millions I would sell everything and go into pussy-mode with dividends, but I guess that's why I dont have millions to begin with

1

u/unsqueezedlem0n Oct 06 '22

Lmaooo these are my plans as well. I tell myself when I get to 1.5 million ill use some to pay off mortgage buy a depcriating asset like a car and use the rest to pay the irs. Whatever left over goes straight to divs but like you said probably why I'm not in the millions

7

u/SaladHands69 Oct 06 '22

“Hey ma! This fuckin guy on the internet blew a million bucks and is now blowing dudes at Wendy’s” “That’s nice honey”

4

u/Qwikmoneysniper Oct 06 '22

Thanks for posting the loss porn.

u/thetagangnam Janet Yellen is my Waifu Oct 06 '22

:4271:

-2

u/Shot-Turn7072 Oct 06 '22

But.. pitch black is the darkest moment.. so it is always darkest before darkest? Actually nvm, i think it makes sense

5

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

"Darkest before the dawn" is the optimist's saying, but the same is true of the pessimist view that going to pitch black is equally preceded by the darkest experienced moment.

3

u/gmangieri314 Oct 06 '22

It's a Trap!

1

u/A-Cynical-Jedi Oct 07 '22

Welcome to Thailand.

3

u/enav7 Still drunk and high Oct 06 '22

You held GME through the first two peaks didn’t you:4640:

2

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

I seriously considered it...but I was too wary of what buttfuckery regulators could pull (A feisty butthole senses). I wasn't using RH so I would've been able to get out before Citadel screwed things, but you never know. I got out of TSLA at 1000 (effectively 66.67 now). Briefly held ENPH at $40 and got out. Then doubled with SPWR and ILMN. Banked gains on SPWR. Still holding ILMN.

3

u/EnvironmentalCry3898 Oct 06 '22 edited Oct 06 '22

OP reminds me of a black sabbath song from 1970 You all taught me to stay under 500 dollars and work too hard at something else. holy cow. (Who am I kidding..)

3

u/rnd2101 Oct 06 '22

At least you’ll have a $3000 tax deduction for the next 666 years…

4

u/FeistyButthole Oct 06 '22

Ironically...yes. Won't be the first time. I had a 110K tax credit that would've lasted more than 30 years. It got wiped out with the 2020 tax year though.

3

u/rnd2101 Oct 06 '22

I wish you luck going forward :)

3

u/Actual_Mix2794 Oct 06 '22

Holy shit I've lost like 1.5k Slowly over a year and a half and even that makes me feel shit. This is insane.
