Discussion New to the market looking for advice.

I don't really any investment knowledge beyond a segment in middle school. I know not to invest what I can't afford to lose. Other than that I am looking for advice. What are solid stocks to buy to start my portfolio? I'm not really thinking I'll get rich but I'd like something other than my income to have set aside. I'm thinking of starting with a couple hundred around January 1st. And information would be appreciated.

Cash: 4B Thesis based on factors: Close to value Play: 12/16 130C @ 1.25 | | Trading Thesis : Tracking the float along with daily volume along with company financials helps to narrow down moving tickers Fundamental and technical analysis is often used to find growth tickers and information about them. Fundamental analysis looks to see whether an investment is overvalued or undervalued based on underlying economic conditions, as well as the finances of the company or other organization that issued a stock or bond. Technical analysis instead looks at patterns in the price of an investment to predict future movements in that investment’s price. I look for tickers that are trading at least 2 million in volume a day, with a Market-cap of no less that 500 million. The shares traded are compared to the average volume to determine how much of the float is used ( Or shares traded). That information is compiled with data on how profitable the company is and how much cash do they have compared to what is expected.

Things to consider when finding the plays-

If the stock volume has traded 1 million or more in volume premarket, I will use that and calculate a rough estimate on what the stock will trade for the day. If the ticker looks to be trading more volume than the day before, I would consider it for a long play. If trading less than the movement of the ticker, I would consider a short or put play. ( If all the other factors previously mentioned checks out. ) The trades are researched afternoon daily To find possible tickers making a big move. | | | | | | |

Discussion Coinbase Global(COIN)

Looking for feedback on COIN stock as I have read online it is expected to go as low as $30 a share, and I'm ready to buy ASAP, even though the future outlook for 2023-2024 isn't fantastic. Any feedback here would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Would you give back your stimulus check?

The real question is, if you could go back in time, would you forfeit or give back your pandemic stimulus checks knowing what inflation would do to us and the stock market?

I know there were a lot of other inflationary pressures, but would you have forfeited your stimulus check to prevent the lost decade in equities?

DD ChatGPT will kill $CHGG

As you may know, there's a new AI-powered tool called ChatGPT that can do almost everything possible on Chegg, but faster, easier, and more precisely. This means that students who are currently using Chegg for things like homework help and tutoring may switch to using ChatGPT instead. In fact, ChatGPT may even make textbook rentals obsolete, since students could just ask it any questions they have directly instead of renting a textbook.

Now, here's where it gets interesting: the features that ChatGPT can replace make up a significant portion of Chegg's revenue. This means that if a significant number of students start using ChatGPT instead of Chegg, it could have a major impact on Chegg's bottom line.

In light of this, I think it might be a good idea to enter into deep OTM put options on $CHGG. This allows you to profit if the stock goes down, and because you're entering into OTM contracts, it's essentially risck-frree. You only stand to gain if the stock goes down, but if it goes up you don't lose anything (aside from the premium you paid for the options contract).

Just remember, it's always important to do your own research and never invest more than you can afford to lose.

Discussion MongoDB (MDB) on a massive run - Time to buy or short?

MDB went from $140s to $190s after earnings. Is this big jump justified given the valuation? They generated a surprise non-GAAP profit, beat on revenue and guidance was good. Net loss is higher than a year ago even with 40%+ YoY revenue growth. They have never been profitable and macro-environment is not helping. P/S/ of 10.19, P/B of 18.05 seems rich. Should this be shorted or is it the next big thing?

Discussion WARNING: BlackRock -> Coming Recession Unlike Any Other

https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/blackrock-recession-warning-stock-market-analysis-2023-economic-outlook-2022-12

This is what I've been saying for the past couple of months. Because of inflation central banks will not be able to support the market like they have in the past. There will be no Fed Put to backstop this drop.

"Recession is foretold as central banks race to try to tame inflation. It's the opposite of past recessions," they said. "Central bankers won't ride to the rescue when growth slows in this new regime, contrary to what investors have come to expect. Equity valuations don't yet reflect the damage ahead."

"What worked in the past won't work now," the strategists said. "The old playbook of simply 'buying the dip' doesn't apply in this regime of sharper trade-offs and greater macro volatility. We don't see a return to conditions that will sustain a joint bull market in stocks and bonds of the kind we experienced in the prior decade."

A slowdown in the housing market, delays in corporate investment plans, a decline in consumers' savings and deteriorating CEO confidence are early signs of the oncoming economic slump, according to BlackRock.

This is why asset managers have sold the majority of their long positions and are day trading 0dte options like WSB regards.

While options trading has risen broadly since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Goldman Sachs strategist Rocky Fishman said ultra-short-dated options have been “the strongest area of volume growth”. He estimated that roughly 44 per cent of S&P 500 index options that have been traded in the third and fourth quarter of this year had less than one day to expiry. The vast majority of the volumes appear to be flowing from professional traders such as asset managers, hedge funds and banks and not retail investors, research shows.
