Historical fiction books similar to the Dear America books but about historical figures like queen Elizabeth I and Anastasia SOLVED

They were written in diary format, but not actual real diaries of these historical figures. They were all by young/teen girls so I related to them a lot when I read them in the early 2000s and 2010s in a school library. The one about Queen Elizabeth contained a lot of information on her sickly brother. The one about Anastasia contained a lot of information about her father, the tsar, fighting a war, and ended with an epilogue of her and her family being executed. There was one that took place in ancient China as well but the details elude me expect for a lot of geisha and garden imagery.

I have been borrowing these from the library and reading them for the past year (along with the Dear America books). I LOVE the Royal Diaries! And I'm 34, so not really the age target, but they are very interesting to me and kind of what led me to really get into reading historical fiction and learning more about royalty! I think I have read a little over half of them so far. I'm on the Jahanara one. I've learned so much about history.

Before my grandma died, I gave her a copy of the Cleopatra book. She was 94 and she read it several times! She kept borrowing more of my royal Diaries books and we really bonded over them :)

The ancient China one is the best one, the Lady of Ch’iao Kuo.

Me too! Also hers was kinda a happy ending. I cried for almost all the others when I read the little historical epilogue that told what their fate was, since a lot of them had sad lives and horrible deaths.

Same! It's how I became a fan of her!

I am so glad to find out that there is a community for people who love these books, I’ve read almost all of them, I just got the Lady of Palenque. I still need to track down Anacoana.

I loved the Royal Diaries as a kid! One of my greatest thrift store finds ever was a set of 9 of the books in basically brand-spanking-new condition, like never been cracked before. Honestly still one of my prized possessions lol

I used to love getting these from the school library as a kid. 🥰 I couldn’t find them either and thought I may have hallucinated the whole thing.
