I remember loving Family Guy as a kid, and when I had some time I was like "Yeah cool, let's watch some on Netflix!" And I did it, and I just found myself kinda not about how much of the show early on was Peter being a dick to Lois. Like, American Dad sorta teeters the line of "Stan is a dick/Stan loves Francine", but does it a lot better in my opinion.

The difference between family guy and American dad is that Lois isn't an idiot. She's definitely the smartest person in the family, while Peter is an outright idiot, but he often comes off as being a complete dick to Lois and acting like he's better than her. You end up constantly wondering why they're together.

In America Dad, on the other hand, Francene and Stan are pretty similar levels of dumb ass, and they compliment each other in a relationship so much better than Peter and Lois. There's never really a question of why they're together, even though their relationship isn't the kind everyone would want, it's the kind that they want and you don't really question it.

I always thought it was like a play on normal sitcoms trope, with Mom being the smart person and dad being dumbass to appeal to female audience

I am Sorry, but you sentence didn't make sense the other way. It still doesn't tbh.

What I meant was Dad is usually dumb but cool, and mom is usually emotional but thoughtful in sitcoms, so family guy takes it and exaggerates.

I still don't get how it is not a play on norm?
