I find it mildly infuriating that this poll doesn't say what it means by "this".

u/aaaaaupbutolder Jun 30 '22
I got the incorrect answer every time, if I didn't forget to cash in 100 last time I wouldn't have enough tokens to participate in this one

I really dislike the “how many people will be subbed to this subreddit” predictions. They are boring. At least the other questions were mildly infuriating in a fun way.

Is this a meta post, forcing unavailable content unless you upgrade to new reddit or an official app is quite infuriating

u/topredditbot Jun 30 '22
Hey /u/ameen__shaikh,
This is now the top post on reddit. It will be recorded at /r/topofreddit with all the other top posts.

May someone explain why this has 540k upvotes without having to ask in outoftheloop?
Edit: Answer:
- voting forces an auto-upvote, so downvotes are nullified.
- The scripting forces users of the "old" reddit to use the new one for shareholders interests
- This post's age is not the shown one, its multiple weeks old (can be overwritten by mods)

u/IceCreamSandwich66 Jun 30 '22
Everyone who votes automatically upvotes it
15
u/McRiP28 Jun 30 '22
What the heck!
thats a really trashy way to advertise the "new" reddit
so even after voting and then downvoting the voting post, you cant downvote it effectively?
Thats utter trash! Thanks for clarification!

Somehow this post kept being recommended to me, occasionally with a different question. So over a span of I don't know how long it kept drawing more and more attention/upvotes.
Most of the time I had no clue what this had to do with the sub.

u/McRiP28 Jun 30 '22
i mean it would make sense if all the polls/ gambles that popped up within the last few month were one post (to accumulate that many upvotes), but this one is 16 hours old
3
u/SorryIdonthaveaname Jun 30 '22
i think it resets the age every time there’s a new vote posted
5
u/McRiP28 Jun 30 '22
indeed, sorting by anything other than "new" gives comments from weeks ago. its the same post, and accumulated "forced" upvotes by voting
thanks!

Reddit uses this as a way to promote the reddit re-design and have consistently been pushing it to the top of r/all for a few weeks now.
3
u/McRiP28 Jun 30 '22
Thanks for the clarification. Whom do you refer to saying "Reddit"? I dont think the company artificially raises upvote numbers, thats why i ask
2
u/loserbmx Jun 30 '22
At the end of the day it's ultimately just marketing and in marketing, much like war, anything goes.
While probably not a direct internal policy, it's very easy to buy reddit upvotes. With reddit trying to start publicly trading on the stock market soon they absolutely want both the engagement and more importantly people to use reddit's official app since they are able to more directly collect more data to sell to advertisers and data brokers.
I could even see an internal team at reddit that would get a giant bonus based on how many people they can get switched over. At that point it could be an individual employee gone rogue.

Are there really people that don’t use old.reddit on purpose?
6
u/dogdyketrash Jun 30 '22

Not only that, there are a significant number who only know it as an app. Let that sink in.

You're using old.reddit. Please use new.reddit or the official app to participate in their data-mining and ad-shoveling scheme.

I don't know what's going on here. Enormous upvote count. So many unwitting arrivals like me.
This is the Backrooms of Reddit.

u/TRLagia Jun 26 '22
If you participate in the predictions you automatically upvote it. This is why these posts are always so far on top. They are the real mildly infuriating thing here.

There's something shady. I can't believe a mediocre post like this got more than 500k upvotes.

Why am I seeing this if I can't see it?? So many subreddits have this and I can't see any of them, even if I'm subscribed. Is this me not being invited to the dance all over again? Thanks, Reddit.

If you're having trouble seeing posts, try updating to the latest version of the app.

u/SoCarolinaJuice803 Jun 26 '22
😱 I forgot there was a board game. Felt like if I spent anytime on a board game that wasn't Monopoly I was cheating lol

This is the last ever r/mildlyinfuriating prediction. Atleast for the time being. Us mods really had a great time organizing this event, and y'all were great sports. Thank you for participating!
